August 8, 200816 yr Out of those I'm only really intrested in Pink, Britney Spears, Timbaland and Kelly Clarkson. I think Pink will do really well again, Britney is never a huge album seller really, Timbaland could depending on the lead single from it and Kelly will be intresting seeing as her last album was a bit of a disaster. If she wants to do well, she'll have to have something very commercial to launch it with I think. I'm sure Oasis, Keane, U2, The Killers, Dido and Red Hot Chili's will all do well too.

I think Kelly Clarkson will return to her own format, and like Breakaway it'll just keep selling, and selling and selling etc. And same with Pink, I think she'll get a strong release from the back of 'So What'.

August 8, 200816 yr I don't think Red Hot Chili Peppers are releasing this year, but I could be wrong. New albums from Snow Patrol, Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls, Ne-Yo, Sugababes and Girls Aloud are expected though. Katy Perry's could be a big seller when released as well Edited August 8, 200816 yr by spiker

'I Kissed A Girl', the title itself is just novelty & controversial (even though it really isn't, but I just guess some people just love a bit of girl on girl action), and it's probably the only reason why it's doing so well. I doubt whether her 2nd single will go Top 20.
August 8, 200816 yr Author Planet Sound on teletext did an interesting article on this :). October's albums war Planet Sound By John Earls - Oasis! Kaiser Chiefs! The Cure! Keane! Razorlight! Bloc Party! The Flaming Lips! Probably U2! The amount of albums coming out this October surely constitutes some sort of record month for having major releases all going up against each other. If anything will revive album sales, surely it's that lot. But why are they all coming out at the same time? And who will lose the chart war? It may seem obvious for bands to release new albums in summer, to capitalise on festival appearances. But record labels are loath to issue new albums around now. Partly it's felt that people will be on holiday and soaking up the sun. Mostly it's because the whole of August sees much of mainland Europe's record labels effectively close down, so no-one can do any marketing work on bands. Autumn has always been the traditional time for the biggest new albums to appear, so that they can start gearing up towards Christmas sales. But it's hard to remember a year when quite so many major new acts are all releasing albums at the same time. Whether Kaiser Chiefs beat Keane to No 1 on October 13 when their albums are out may be irrelevant, as Oasis could well get a second week on top instead. The Cure's new album is also out on October 13 and, however good the album is, they look like missing out against their more mainstream competition. The other major band to be licking their wounds may well be Bloc Party. Nothing's been confirmed, but it looks as if they, Razorlight and U2 are all out on October 27. With many fans slating new single Mercury, it's hard to see Bloc coming out well from this. With only a finite amount of money to go round, it would make sense for some bands to change their release dates to avoid getting lost in the turf war. Franz Ferdinand and Lily Allen have ducked out, not releasing until early next year despite having albums ready. Radiohead and The Raconteurs have shown you can release albums instantly but, if you want to be noticed, it can still pay to get a marketing campaign ready. Whichever bands lose out, retailers at least will be happy with the onslaught. Universal - home to U2, Kaisers, Keane, The Cure and Razorlight - are using the new releases to test their Deluxe Editions of new albums in a bid to tempt fans away from downloading. And at least it will stop the charts stagnating, however briefly. Though why it has to be done in such a short burst still defies logic. They're really underestimating some of the Bigger Female releases during October/[Autumn] though, but I can guess now that it'll be Oasis that'll come out on top.

Looks like October is going to be a pretty big month! [Maybe even the next Arctic Monkeys or a Live Beatles album will follow during Autumn to!] Thats an impressive list; earlier this year albums looked a bit thin for releases, it looked like 2008 was a "skipped" year with major acts releasing in 2009. Plus they've all came at the end of the year. 2007 was a bit like this. There were album releases all year but the end espescially had loads. I thought it'd be a huge year for albums, but sadly there were loads of flops, espescially from women.
August 8, 200816 yr I don't think so. 'I Kissed A Girl', the title itself is just novelty & controversial (even though it really isn't, but I just guess some people just love a bit of girl on girl action), and it's probably the only reason why it's doing so well. I doubt whether her 2nd single will go Top 20. Oh I Hope her 2nd single goes Top 20, If its Hot N Cold then it deserves to do better than 'IKAG' IMO. But your so right about IKAG only getting the novelty vote etc... - Pink - Anastacia - Timbaland - Britney Spears - Kelly Clarkson - The Killers - Dido Thats who im interested in. Especially the bold ones :w00t: Im especially excited about Britney and Kellys releases, but people are more interested in bands like Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, U2, Bloc Party so i doubt their albums will do as well as i hope :(
August 8, 200816 yr Britney's scheduled for 15th Dec. so won't be in the top 5 of the year as not enough days to sell. Whether Dido releases is anyone's guess. Edited August 8, 200816 yr by Crazy Chris
August 8, 200816 yr - Oasis - Kaiser Chiefs - Keane - Razorlight - Bloc Party - U2 - Elvis Presley - Pink - Anastacia - Metallica - Timbaland - Britney Spears - Kelly Clarkson - The Killers - Kasabian - Dido - AC/DC - Guns N Roses - Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Take That Guns N Roses are not seriously releasing... they are scheduled every year, but the album never comes out. Kelly Clarkson and Britney are not serious contenders. Their previous albums flopped horribly, and with teeny music, the tendency is to get smaller and smaller after each album. Dido will shif 1.5 million with ease IF she really releases the bloody album. Wether she goes any further then this, depends on how popular her new music will be. But if its being released in november, and she´s coming out of 2 blockbuster albums, 1.5 million is a given even without a radio smash. Wether she becomes the best seller of the year, depends only on how Duffy and Coldplay will sell from now on, and if she scores radio smashes. If she has a hitsingle as big a White Flag, then she should beat her own record by having the quickest 2 million seller ever in UK history. If the new singles are big flops without much radio aceptance, then she will just finish between 1-1.5 million ,which is already massive comparing to other female artists. I don´t see many of the others on the list being big competition, at least in UK. They should all do well, but not bloody massive. Pink will only do well if its a slow burner: artists like her never sell like hotcakes in just a few weeks. She needs many hits off an album to warm up an audience. I´d say she will sell about 300k by the end of this year, and will continue to sell trough 2009 if she scores more hits. Wether her album will be a big seller or not, depend on how many hits she can score in a sequence.
August 8, 200816 yr It is shaping up to be pretty amazing even though literally all of those do nothing to excite me at all I'm just looking forward to a chart full of healthy competition with some of the biggest acts releasing new material. Makes up for the barren and awful year for music we've had so far. I hope Clarkson does some good stuff - she's been working with Ryan Tedder so should be interesting. I like The Killers too and of course P!nk and Will Young. The rest don't make me that excited.
August 9, 200816 yr No chance RHCP will release anything (well new material) this year, same goes for Arctic Monkeys too. A load of those artists excite me, but over the past year or so there's been so many disappointing albums for me personally that i'll wait to hear the lead single, or whatever before I get overly excited. But anyway, The Killers new album really excites me. I really have a feeling their new album is gonna be HUGE, but hopefully they'll be playing some of their new stuff in a couple of weeks time, so i'll have a good idea of how the album may fair. ^_^
August 9, 200816 yr Don't forget Lily Allen  But i have a feeling she might flop. But her demo's for this album were amazing so hopefully not. Looking forward to alot of these albums :D Edited August 9, 200816 yr by Ryan
