Posted October 4, 200816 yr Apart from the good chance of the Winner having the usual Xmas No.1, will the 12 Finalists have a Charity No.1 Single - soon? Here is what today's 'The Sun' said:, It says in today's 'The Sun', that the 12 Finalists from 'The X Factor', are releasing a Charity Single, in aid of UK Soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan. The 12 Finalists will call themselves, Help For Heroes, - and the Single will be a Cover of Mariah Carey's 'Hero'. The Article went on to say that Simon Cowell is hugely 'excited' about the Single, & that he is:, 'Determined to get it to No.1'. Edited October 4, 200816 yr by zeus555
October 4, 200816 yr This is probably why Girls Aloud's single has been brought forward. This could go either way, but I'll wait until I hear it until I say anymore
October 4, 200816 yr Ewww, it will be just as bad as that 'Pop Idol Finalists' cover a few years back!

There is only one emoticon for this: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: Why doesn't Cowell just chip into the pockets of his enormously high-waisted trousers and just give the money to the 'charity'. We all know that the subliminal charity here is Simon Cowell's Ego Bank. Norma
October 4, 200816 yr I bought the pop Idol one, I will probably end up liking this better than the winners single
October 4, 200816 yr ohhh no!! Does he not remember what happened with the Pop Idol 2 christmas single??! I remember watching Pop Idol and remember Cowell saying "if this isnt the biggest selling single of the year i will eat my trousers" well i didnt see him with a mouthful of nylon?? lol lol doesnt bode well for the eventual winners single...we have only had one original winners single so far "Thats my goal" by Shayne Ward, which is the biggest selling of the winners singles, does that not tell them anythin? grr Edited October 4, 200816 yr by danalco

Whilst my opinion of Mariah Carey following allowing this monstrosity to happen will descend to the levels of contempt I had for her for this horror which at least Phil Collins had the decency to apologise for allowing the cover version to happen a few weeks ago on the Al Murray Show: 9Nb3CMVHP4w Westlife & Mariah Carey - Against All Odds ("Live")
October 4, 200816 yr Why doesn't he quietly, just dip into his cash mountain and donate himself? he's just a self-absorbed egoist of the highest order. :puke2: Edited October 4, 200816 yr by suggy
October 4, 200816 yr I'm not sure desperation is the right word. It's for charity after all If it's one thing I have learnt from reading Simon Cowells Auto-Biog. It's him having stats under his name. Obviously the money doesn't interest him, he's got enough. But him having another x amount of sales under his name. And possibly another Number 1. It's what he wants, which is fair enough, who wouldn't want it. But I think him having the Number One on his tally chart, means more to him, than it actually getting to Number 1 if that makes sense.
October 4, 200816 yr Im not gonna judge on the song before Ive heard it but I'm not sure whether covering Mariah Carey's 'Hero' is a good idea. Well we'll have to wait and see ^_^
October 4, 200816 yr Simon will pull out all the stops to get this to Number 1 and lets face it with the amazing charity that the single is supporting even if the single is awful media will still be all over it. Lets just hope that it does better than the Pop Idol finalists single which was expected to be a huge seller and go straight to the top  The Idols - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - 5-7-18-49-65
October 5, 200816 yr Truly a terrifying prospect, a potentially cheap and horrific cover of a Mariah Carey song, the word DIRE is not strong enough. You would have thought given the amount of money the X Factor generates they could afford to buy or pen specifically for the show some decent new material? Clearly Cowell is in it for the money not the quality. Well to be fair the Pop Idol 2 (Idols) single shifted over 70k in its first week, which would have been enough to be No1 in 38 out of 52 weeks of 2003. Given the cause, eligible for release in Tesco’s and the inevitable amount of exposure it’s going to get on the show it may well be huge! Isn’t Leona out the following week though? :o

It looks like to me that he wants to ensure the number 1 ranking whether it's the winner or this charity single he doesn't mind.
