Yet - if the rumours a true - a Man who is to get the 'Outstanding Contribution To British Music' Award at the 2009 BRITS. A Man who creates nothing - just wealth from Sales.

That rumour was a spoof by Jonathan King that one of the tabloids swallowed hook, line and sinker. It was immediately denied by the BRITs committee.
October 29, 200816 yr Shayne, Will, Gareth.... All horrible songs but much bigger than Leona or this hideous 'Hero' $h!t.
October 29, 200816 yr It's sad really that the uK public only to see mto get behind a single in full force if some charity is connected or it's something to do with Cowell and his regurgitated ballad writing team or hideous cover versions. I long for the days whan a great novelty track or amazing song could just sell buckets off its own back. :(
October 29, 200816 yr ^^ Time for a change, then ? I am sure the artists will earn more (and be more prompted to come up with good material) if they didn't have to pay the minions from marketing etc. with a fat share ;)

And truly great singles can still sell loads - look at Crazy, Bleeding Love, Rule The World, Mercy ...
October 29, 200816 yr It's not Brilliant at all, but it sure ain't half as bad as people on here are making it out to be!
October 29, 200816 yr It's not Brilliant at all, but it sure ain't half as bad as people on here are making it out to be! Yep i completely agree with all of that JohnJo :P
October 29, 200816 yr It's not Brilliant at all, but it sure ain't half as bad as people on here are making it out to be! I like it too and they've got some really good female singers in the show this year.
October 29, 200816 yr I like it too and they've got some really good female singers in the show this year. I don't believe there are lots of statements i agree with today  I know amazing singers Diana Alex Laura Rachel Also Austin isn't bad either :D And Daniel and Ruth i like too as for JLS they're not bad and Eoghan i don't know LOL Anyway back to topic Yes i love the original but this isn't as bad if you listen to it more closely :D Edited October 29, 200816 yr by KJ Rob
October 29, 200816 yr I really like this song. I don't get the hate  I think I would like this if it wasn't a cover of my favourite 90's Mariah song. I'm just a bit bitter that they're covering it and it's going to beat the #7 peak of the far superior original. -_- It's not an awful cover but, even though it's for charity, I didn't want it outpeaking the original - the same happened to another favourite of mine, 'When You Believe' with Leon covering it. I just hate when songs I love are covered and they are more successful than the version I like. As for their only being 29p going to charity, didn't Simon say all profits were going to the charity? Well, CD singles are usually £1.99 or £2.99 and I believe this is £3.99? Surely the fact that it's £1 dearer than the majority of singles shows that there is more than 29p profit? I was wondering if the 29p figure comes from the amount per download.
October 29, 200816 yr I actually like it. There are some excellent girl singers on this track, not as good as the original Mariah record, but good nonetheless. And no matter how its dressed up as only a % of the £0.79 download / £3.99 (?) physical going to charity, there is more going to charity than there would be otherwise.

If you gave £4 to a forces charity or to the Poppy Appeal say (which helps servicemen past and present) you could be giving almost £5 if you 'gift-aid' it. People must be buying the single because they love it! I don't like it and think its a bit pants really so I think I'll be paying more for my poppy this year to at least put my money where my mouth is. Norma

Norma I agree with that and of course the maths and accountancy works its way through. However, what I was getting at was that most people don't both giving any money to charity - at least this way, charity benefits, although obv not as much as if the full price of the download/single was to be given direct to charity.

True! I suppose its a way of getting those with a bad taste in music to contribute to charity. I'm just one of those people who despise 'charity' records. They do more for the people performing than for the people they are supposed to be helping which is why I'd rather give direct. Norma
