December 28, 200816 yr Simon Amstell asked her what a lyric from Sweet About Me meant and she couldn't explain it. Sorry, but I'm nearly exactly her age yet I do not act that clueless. I do not care how 'young' she is. Meh, just my opinion. I just think she's the worst thing 2008 has delivered. ;o Obviously people can disagree and whatnot, these are just my thoughts.

I don't deny that she is a 'pop puppet', like most other manufactured pop artists, but she has a strong voice with a lot of further potential and I'm sure if at some point she is allowed to write her own songs she won't seem quite so naive. The problem being that many people so young have had such few life experiences to write about, it doesn't make a very lyrically interesting album - see Taylor Swift (great music, but entire albums about school/young crushes). Obviously there are some young artists with incredible talent, such as Laura Marling, but I can think of few other 16 year olds who have shot to fame with a lyrically interesting debut album that they have written themselves.
December 28, 200816 yr I love the lyrics, it's so non cliche and out of the ordinary. Most of the tracks were written she just became a teen, then she got together with some other writers for the co-writing. So, she basically wrote every track and then the co-writers probably were more involved on SAM than she was.. Making it understandable that she'd be dillusional or not have a clue about what it meant

Fiona Apple - Criminal lzbw-53g2CU Kate Bush - The Man With the Child In His Eyes Just two that sprung to mind. In fact, Kate Bush wrote some of the songs on her debut when she was 13. I just don't think age is a good excuse tbh. And like, I mean if you're gonna sing a song that someone else has wrote for you, I would hope you would be able to give your own interpretation of it...I'm not really against the fact that she doesn't write her own music (I mean, Britney doesn't and I loved Blackout...not so much Circus), just so much that she can't even explain the songs she was picked to sing.

Such acts get asked to sing/cover a song and they do what they are told, regardless of whether they agree with/can even understand the lyrical content at all...which is why I'm glad that Will Young decided to ditch Simon Cowell, his music has been all the better for it since, and from seeing him live the other week, he has ditched all of the songs from his first album (most of his biggest selling singles), because he is quite rightfully ashamed of them
December 28, 200816 yr I disagree with you. Better get back to your music, Soap. This is a Discussion board so he can post what he likes in here ;) It'd be boring just commenting on the stuff you like all the time ;)
December 28, 200816 yr This is a Discussion board so he can post what he likes in here ;) It'd be boring just commenting on the stuff you like all the time ;) indeed! I do enjoy a good discussion, if I feel that I have some points to add to the argument that is... and somebody needs to remove the xmas hats from the emoticons :o
December 28, 200816 yr indeed! I do enjoy a good discussion, if I feel that I have some points to add to the argument that is... and somebody needs to remove the xmas hats from the emoticons :o At least you're giving points as to why you disagree with him :P Instead of just saying "I disagree with you. Get back to your music 'soap" Which I thought was quite rude actually :o Nah 12 days AFTER Christmas :P It's the rules :heehee: (I hope this post didn't sound like I was getting on at you Rich :P) Edited December 28, 200816 yr by Johnjo07
December 28, 200816 yr Ouch at 'Warm This Winter' falling down the charts and failing to make the Top 20 despite being a Christmas themed track and having mass TV advert exposure - It didn't even help sales of the album which limped to #87 last week.

Get back to your music 'soap" Which I thought was quite rude actually :o Nah 12 days AFTER Christmas :P It's the rules :heehee: (I hope this post didn't sound like I was getting on at you Rich :P) I agree, but some people take insults of their favourite artists personally, whereas I couldn't care less really, I don't know the artists myself so it doesn't effect me in any way. But if I have points to add, I will add them, I'm not necessarily defending Gabriella Cilmi, moreso saying that there are so many artists out there who do exactly the same as her and I hate xmas as soon as it's gone :arrr: seeing as the build up lasts 4 months anyway :heehee:
December 28, 200816 yr Such a shame Warm This Winter coudnt make the top 20. Im not quite sure how it missed it though considering it was i-tunes top 10 for most of the week.

Having watched that episode now, she just seems clueless and vapid as opposed to rude really  She seemed a bit overwhelmed and caught off guard by most things in that episode...
December 28, 200816 yr I love Simon Amstell for it though, he catches everyone off guard, usually people he interviewed on Popworld at some point like ex Blue members :heehee: Frankie from The Saturdays' appearance was another highlight
December 28, 200816 yr People seem to forgotten WTW is only download and I'm not sure if it was removed over the weekend or all/most of the xmas songs were anialated.. And TOTP stole the xmas limelight. She was top 10 on monday and tuesday only. So I think she's really lucky to stay top 30 even, she did really well.. The best new xmas song this year and her 3rd top 40 hit isnt too bad seeing how almost every act is struggling to crack consecutive top 10s/20s. . Now for that new album. Unless something like a STL rerelease happens :o
December 28, 200816 yr I love Simon Amstell for it though, he catches everyone off guard, usually people he interviewed on Popworld at some point like ex Blue members :heehee: Frankie from The Saturdays' appearance was another highlight Frankie didnt screw up as much as Gabriella did IMO. Actually did Frankie do anything that embrrassing?
December 29, 200816 yr I don't recall exactly what Frankie did, just that Simon made her seem very naive and out of her depth on the show
