That's a completely different idea to TOTP though mate, it IS a Pop version of "Later.."... And one which I would support, with the proviso that all acts perform live, and there aint no videos either (which is what YouTube is there for)... What you are describing though aint TOTP as I understand it to be....

True......

But when BMW revived the Mini car franchise to great success they made it different to what it was in it's original halycon days. The same was definitely applicable to Russell T. Davis' 21st Century revival of the Dr Who franchise.

The same needs to be applied to Top Of The Pops to make it a success. I.E. Look at the shows Later... & FNMTV and borrow from their formats & studio innovations heavily, and get a decent set of hosts who know music but are not too snobbish about it (Simon Amstell, Lauren Laverne, Zane Lowe, Dave Berry, Tim Lovejoy, etc) NOT the likes of Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates or Chris Moyles.

In short it will work, but only if they "Remake/Remodel" it correctly.

Thursday night at 7pm please - otherwise forget it. 'The One Show' will just need to be shifted.

The presenters shouldn't be too big for the show. They are the least important thing after the acts, the music and the audiences.

NO INTERVIEWS

NO 'EXCLUSIVES' - this was simply a device used so that a 'big star' could record three half-arsed performances to be screened at random over the future weeks. Performances should be from the Top 40 of that week...not two months before release.

Videos should only be shown in a resurrected 'breakers' section or where the number one can't be arsed to turn up (in which case only half the song is shown).

and, please, please, please get a decent producer in who knows what they're doing.

Otherwise forget it.

I dont think it will work tbh! For a while the figures will be decent, then it will tank!

If it can average 3 million viewers within a 7-8pm, I will be shocked!

This should be bloody fantastic! Glad it's back. I hope they change their mind and do a Christmas show as a taster :)

Problem being on at 7pm is going against Emmerdale on ITV, probably be better if they put it on at 7.30 and then have Eastenders on a 8pm, and with the One show on at 7pm BBC1 could be the one to watch on Thursday nights

Does anyone seriously watch Emmerdale?

It gets more viewers then Eastenders when they're put up against eachother. And when it was up against Emmerdale on Friday nights and Sunday nights before TOTP always lost out

OK. Comes as a shock to me to be honest...

I would usually welcome this, but with that cash-cow Simon Cowell pulling the strings, it will be merely more than a promotional platform to flog whatever X-Factor/Reality bollocks is around at the time.

But, if they get everyone from Robyn to Artic Monkeys... Sam Sparro to Bloc Party... Girls Aloud to Amy Winehouse to use the show, I'm convinved. I still think Pop Music is alive and well which is something TOTP didn't believe when it was coming towards the end.

Anyway, we shall see...

I dont think Simon's actually involved is he, god help us if he is.

Could they squeeze it on a Saturday night perhaps?

Saturday night, was something I suggested in the early 90s. I thought it was a great idea. I was thinking at 5.30pm. The German version which I followed every week in the latter days, was always shown on Saturdays.

At that time on Saturdays, there would be no competition. So, it would be a winner. Although it does need to run much longer than 30 minutes.

I also say that it shouldn`t feature the chart to much (because by Saturday, the previous week`s chart, is well out of date). So, new releases and ending with the current number one, yes.

Nope, this helped kill it in the first place.

No Simon isn't behind this. Simon just basically said he would buy the rights to the OCC etc... so that he could get a new show for the Pop stars of todays generation to perform on. But the BBC said that they weren't willing to give up the rights to the OCC!
