Anyone see this tonight?

I enjoyed it, being an 80s kid it was good retro tv.

Surprised there was no film section particularly as this was the year the last

of the original Star Wars trilogy - Return of the Jedi came out.

Yes I watched it as well.

Thoughts: Nik Kershaw looks likes Peter Gabriel's younger brother. I never knew Kajagoogoo with Limahl had reconciled; sad to see Paul Young mime (but his career was all but over after he wrecked his voice in 1986 when he continued performing supporting Genesis in the USA when he had Laryingitus); Tony Hadley should stop be a stubborn fool and reform Spandau Ballet with The Kemp Brothers & the other two; Ali Campbell was awful, etc...

Did you not think Nik Kershaw bore a worrying facial similarity to Gary Glitter?

Yes.But I like(d) Nik Kershaw so I wanted to look on the positive rather than the negative.

I like Nik Kershaw too - my favourite of his was Wouldn't It Be Good. I also liked Howard Jones too - I remember him doing an acapella version of Life In One Day at a Comic Relief thing ages ago and it was brilliant.

By the way ... so for having a go at you in the Strictly Come Dancing thread! I had an angry head on yesterday!

some of it was ok... Kajagoogoo were surprisingly good, I thought.

Howard Jones looked like he should never, ever be allowed near children. Vocally terrible, too.

Tony Hadley, the rancid fat old Tory whinger, was as utterly abhorrent as he always was.... sang badly, too. I hate 'True'.

Nik Kershaw I fell asleep to - never liked him at all. Or his snoods.

Heaven 17 were great - but where was Carol Kenyon, THE voice of Temptation?

Ali Campbell - give it up, mate - appalling.

Nick Heyward... out of tune, a song nobody remembered (or even liked at the time)...but he looks good, still.

But as a celebration of Now 1.... hmm... New Order's Blue Monday wasn't even on that album despite it being played throughout  And where was Madness? Mike Oldfield? Bonnie Tyler? Simple Minds?

Plus - Denise Van Outen (and her washerwoman knees - yikes) is guaranteed to turn any show into a cheesy tackfest... and Now is cheesy and tacky enough without her adding to it.

I thought Tony Hadley was AWFUL - he clearly can't hit the right notes anymore.
I wanted to see this, but for reason I forgot all about it, 1984 next week.

For future reference ... it looks like these shows are repeated on ITV2 on Saturday afternoons! I was unfortunate enough to catch Ali Campbell whilst I was unplugging my little fella's playstation out of the TV!

1983... The year I was born!

Can't say I will remember owt from this year, unsurprisingly, but I'll make a note to watch it from around 87 onwards...

How far forwards are they going with this? Upto 2008?

I don't know, although Denise said "see you in 84", i haven't anything about

any more shows, i'd like to see more though.

There's nothing for next week anyway.

Good to see lots of people mentioning Paul young miming because i thought he was anyway nice song from him and Tony hadley was too slow in singing true plus Ali campbell was awful but at least he tried his best -_-

Kajagoogoo were good and Nik kershaw wasn't bad

I missed the first 15 minutes though

Is it? I'm looking at Friday's listing on ITV1, and - Corrie aside - it looks as rubbish as ever.

however do Kajagoogoo know they are not living in 1998 - at the moment they are looking like a post-firestarter cyberpunk savage garden....possibly worse than they did in 1983

i saw bits of that show - it was too dreadful to try and watch it all :puke2: (the repeat of the kings of glam rock doc on bbc 2 later that night was much much bette :cheer: ) - but yeah thought it was the son of Gary Glitter for a moment.. tho not as scary as the fat guy behind howard jones (btw what is a snood)

I've heard they're re-releasing the first Now from '83 on CD and on itunes. Is this true?

They are, it's released on 12th Jan.

I'm looking forward to getting it on CD.

he never could, though, J.... he was always flat as a witch's tit.... :P

As for a snood...it was a strange 'hood' thing.... where only the face was visible.... popular in the 80s... Nik Kershaw often wore one.

i think there's something to be said about this strange hood thing in regards to the previous quotes of Nik Kershaw's appearence as glitter's mini-me but i dont know if you turned the hood around so you couldnt see his face would be a pos or neg thing - could give like more sinister thoughts in some peoples minds.....tho i suppose both him and jones could perform with bags over their heads next time...with cut out head shots of Chesney Hawks and his sister from transister cellotaped on top....

btw is Tony Hadley turning into a kd lang tribute...
