Posted December 20, 200816 yr Predict which songs you think might make it to No1 in 2009! Leona Lewis Run It happened in 1998 and 2002: a former no1 (Various Artists and Daniel Bedingfield) went back up to No1 in the first week of the year. Could Leona Lewis ‘Run’ sell consistently and capitalise when Alexandra’s frontloaded sales inevitably collapse? James Morrision & Nelly Furtado Broken Strings The New Year slowdown was traditionally a time when singles often overlooked over the festive rush could become huge smashes once the Christmas songs ebbed away. Nickleback almost rose to the top last year but were thwarted by Duffy’s downloads. The most prolific example was in 1995 when both the Rednex and Celine Dion climbed to No1 after spending much of December yo-yoing in the top10. Out of the current crop of hits I’d tip this to be a dark horse to make some progress in the New Year! Lady Gaga Just Dance Intensely catchy and the sheer hype surrounding this is immense. If as expected Alexandra’s sales have come down from the stratosphere then it’d be a massive shock if this wasn’t a sure fire No1. Kid Cudi vs Crookers Day ‘N’ Nite The beat on this is sick, it’ll be HUGE in the clubs over the New Years festivities and dance records do tend to prosper in January ask Basshunter or LMC. This could well restrict Lady Gaga to just a week at the top. Lily Allen The Fear By far the best thing she’s released to date, this is kinda the big comeback single from Dido we were expecting... I suspect it’ll be her biggest UK hit to date and possibly first 4/5-week No1 of 2009. Kardinal Offishall Feat. Keri Hilson Numba 1 (Tide Is High) If there’s any mileage left in the classic American male rap/female chorus formula then this is the most promising offering since Timbaland. A very strong vocal performance from Ms Hilson only adds to a sneaky suspicion that this will be locked into the top5 for much of spring 2009. Sander Van Doorn vs. Robbie Williams Close My Eyes A dance re-working of a track from Williams’ universally panned ‘Rudebox’ album doesn’t sound too promising. However the atmospheric faithless style breakdowns are frickin amazooo. I think a very strong contender for a ‘surprise’ No1. U2 Unless the first single of their highly anticipated new album is atrocious then I wouldn’t bet against U2 racking up another chart topper in 2009. Comic Relief (x2) Every official comic relief single since 1995 has reached No1: Cher(1wk), Spice Girls(3wks), Boyzone(2wks), Westlife(1wk), McFly (1wk) and GirlsAloud/Sugababes(1wk). Pencil in this years charity offering as a guaranteed No1! If Peter Kay releases a unofficial comic relief single, well dredges up another forgotten classic (rumours suggest that it’s going to be Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’) then after huge No1’s with Amarillo (7wks) and 500 Miles (3wks) I reckon he’d have a hat-trick.
December 20, 200816 yr If its true that Take That's next single from The Circus is to be Up All Night ... then that definitely stands a good chance of being number 1 even though the album has done incredibly well so far. You've mentioned Comic Relief ... is it possible that there could be some sort of collaboration in the works between Take That and Girls Aloud ... as two members of GA and one member of TT are doing a joint venture in a climb of Kilimanjaro for the same project? Just a thought. Norma Just thought ... if the second part comes to anything ... possible titles could be Ain't No Mountain High Enough, River Deep, Mountain High or even .... Climb Every Mountain! And another edit ... I do hope if Peter Kay does do something for CR - please let it not involve Geraldine ... I'm getting a bit bored with her now! December 20, 200816 yr I agree with you on most counts ej87 I reckon there is a slight possibility that Leona Lewis Run could reclimb, itll definately continue to be a big seller next year. Lady Gaga Just Dance If this isn't #1 I'll be shocked, apparently its out for download on 28th Dec so i'd say itll enter around #2/3 and then climb the following week with the physical out. I reckon Alex will make it to 3 weeks at #1. Kid Cudi vs Crookers Day ‘N’ Nite I do love this and theres alot of hype about it. It'll help that physical/download are being released the same week. I think it will just depend how big Just Dance is (if JD is selling over 50k for example i think itll struggle). If this doesnt do it, itll go to #2. It has a very good chance though. Lily Allen The Fear I LOVE this, very catchy and i think this and JD are the 2 tracks will are most likely to do it BUT does anyone else think shes getting tv/airplay too soon? Its not out until 26th which is still 5 weeks away! Having said that, i still think itll reach the top. U2 I agree that unless they come back with an awful track, this will reach the top, but will have to wait to hear it. Comic Relief (x2) When was the last time Comic Relief failed to reach #1? I have heard about Girl Aloud/Take That track. If thats true then it will be MASSIVE!! Edited December 20, 200816 yr by simonf
December 20, 200816 yr Just Dance will definatly be #1, but maybe not if Alex holds up her sales for a while, Girls Aloud should provide some good competition aswell. Lily Allen im having doubts about, it's a good song and possibly my favourite from her so far but i'm imagining a comeback similar to The Feeling.

Although I was one of those people to predict the feeling reaching #1 ^_^ i think Lily will better than that, she's already #1 on itunes video chart and its already top 20 in the irish itunes. I do think she needs to bring the release forward a week or two though otherwise it may burn out.
December 20, 200816 yr I guess you've mentioned my potential no. 1s so there's no point of telling it. LOL
December 20, 200816 yr I agree with Lady Gaga, Lily Allen and Comic Relief! I think IF (which I found doubtful) McFly release the fan favourite of their album, Radio:ACTIVE, Down Goes Another One it has a chance as it wasn't on the free album and the Deluxe edition hasn't sold too much. Anything else though wont be, most probably. Although I've heard they're thinking of releasing POV which should do good. They do have equally good songs, in my opinion, and equally strong songs on the album but having been on the free album it lowers the chances. They would have to pick an easier week too. Plus there's the fact only 1 release after an album has come out has gone to number 1 by them, with Transylvania.
December 20, 200816 yr I reckon Lady Ga Ga is going to be the first #1 of 2009, unless that awful Kid Cudi gets there first. Lily Allen has got huge potential, personally I hated everything she has done before, but The Fear is a lot different from her previous material and its a real grower, never liked a Lily Allen track before now. Comic Relief track is bound to be a cover version as usual and always does well, whatever it is looks a dead cert for the top, it never fails. I think Alexandra will hold on for at least 3 to 4 weeks, just have to wait and see how it trails off after Week 2.
December 20, 200816 yr We need Rich/Gooddelta's what-will-be-big thread. He's ALWAYS right :P I think in a high sales time songs need to have mass appeal. I think that rules Kid Cudi out despite the chavviness/catchiness. If "The Days" are lucky they could go top 10 :magic: Franz Ferdinand should hopefully go top 10 too. Girls Aloud- The Loving Kind should go top 3, possibly a #1 in a quiet period. Jay Sean- Tonight might be top 10, but could easily flop. Breathe Slow by Alesha Dixon could be majorly successful. I think the Wombats- My Circuit Board City, Katy Perry- Thinking Of You and Britney- Circus won't do that well, though won't be a complete disaster. Katy Perry just might though. If Eve- Give It To You finally gets released it might be big. Far into the future La Roux, The Killers- Spaceman and whoever comes top 3 in BBC Sound Of 2009 will get major success.
December 21, 200816 yr I think Kid Cudi will do a H'Two'O/Bodyrox and stall at 2 TBH! Lady Gaga I think will prevent him.
December 21, 200816 yr Lady Gaga and Lily Allen are the two obvious ones for me. I just hope, for the love of mine and everyone else's sanity, that we don't see Peter Kay for another five years.

December 21, 200816 yr My Life Would Suck Without You  Maybe not in the UK but probs in the US. Depending on what the track is like, and I'm sure it's going to be amazing, it could get to number one over here. P!nk's been massive this year and MLWS(WY) is being released at a pretty quiet time. I'd love her to have the same amount of success as P!nk got this year. She absolutely deserves it.
