January 10, 200916 yr Not really  . Its outside the top 100 on the itunes chart and i don't see it getting much higher :P. Very..... specific predictions
January 10, 200916 yr In today's 'The Sun', their Showbiz 'expert' Gordon Smart claims that Alexandra Burke looks set to pass Kylie's Million Seller, & have the UK's Best Selling Single by a Solo Female Act, this Decade. Unfortunately, Mr. Smart thinks that Kylie's Million Seller is 'Spinning Around'! He does not mention 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' in the Article. (So Mr. Smart is clearly a misnomer). Well, AB will be down to just 30-35k last week, which would take her to around 1.02m, and with the way her sales are dropping, she'll struggle to reach Kylies's 1.1m
January 10, 200916 yr Author Well that could go to No.1 and stay for 4 weeks, after one week off No.1, back for two weeks. Could Green Day do?
January 17, 200916 yr Author Million-selling predictions for 2009 Green Day Kings of Leon style comeback million-selling single. Would the band be over the moon about the first No.1 single?
January 17, 200916 yr Would the band be over the moon about the first No.1 single? If no one wants to answer your questions, then quoting yourslef will not help matters.
January 18, 200916 yr Also: The Outsiders The remix of the old Robyn song could displace Green Day at No.1 for one week. Can you please just stop making ridiculous predictions? Some of these would be lucky to make the top forty, let alone sell a million!
January 18, 200916 yr I think the only potential million sellers this year would be the X Factor 6 winner and maybe Leona Lewis with her first single from her second album, but I expect it may not even sell as much as Bleeding Love.
February 1, 200916 yr Is Lady GaGa's Just Dance set to become a million-seller? Actually that's quite a good question. It had already sold quarter of a million last week, it depends how well it hangs around after it falls from number one...
February 1, 200916 yr Lady Gaga sales are very steady at the moment. It be slow but won't be shocked.
February 1, 200916 yr It won't sell anywhere near a million. It may pass 500,000 but I doubt it would go beyond 600,000. It would have to stay in the top 10 for another 6 months to pass a million sales. And not many records in chart history have sold a million without one weekly sale of at least 200,000. Those that have managed to do this have either racked up sales over a period of years (eg Blue Monday and Wonderwall, if the latter has actually sold a million) or had consistent sales above 100,000 for quite a few week (eg Torn).

Lady Gaga is likely to to sell 65-70k again. She is still selling shed loads and she hit 500k with 40k of sales and probably get to 650K by the end of the year
February 1, 200916 yr I think if Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis comeback with the right song they both have a chance.
February 1, 200916 yr I just wished that there was million selling single that people bought it because they love the song, not because it's for charity or it's an espresso cover of some reality TV star. Kylie and Shaggy were the last ones that did so, I think.
February 2, 200916 yr Gaga will get over 500k no probs, quite possibly over 600k too, but not 1mil this year. Single sales are really picking up again vs. the last couple of years even, makes me wonder if the top40 sales could be at 90s style levels in a few years time again when downloads have really taken off completely. Then we could see no1s regularly sell 100k+ in a week. Combine that with the longevity d/ls have reintroduced to the chart and we could certainly be seeing a few more million sellers, but not yet :(
February 2, 200916 yr Single sales are now consistently running 33% higher than last year. I attribute the main driving force behind this the weeks of discounted download equipment in the run up to and after Christmas thus considerably more people have joined the digital revolution since 25/12/08 rather than just a ‘gift card’ effect. Crude mathematics will tell you that a 2008 500k single would now sell 666k in 2009! I expect Lady GaGa’s yearend tally will comfortably fall within the 750-850k range. As for future million sellers, if a song comes along that captivates people as much as Crazy, Umbrella or Bleeding Love did then it could well shift over a million copies at the current sales levels.

I think the 33% represents an increase in single sales from the entire chart, but that there is variation in specific positions. For example, I think that the lower end of the chart will be up by more than 33% year-on-year, whereas the top end of the chart will be up by less, perhaps even as low as 20%. Therefore the 500k (which is from the top end of the chart) really needs to reflect that. I'm not sure of the exact figures for positional analysis - anyone have these (January 09 to January 08)?
