And do we spare a thought for Will Young, who will achieve his smallest hit. Problems for REVELRY - KOL, LADYHAWKE - PARIS IS BURNING, WOMBATS - MY CIRCUITBOARD CITY, JENNIFER HUDSON - IF THIS ISN`T LOVE in the top 60. As we say "HALO" to BEYONCE just outside the 60...spare a thought for STARSAILOR, and CHRIS CORNELL because they will recieve our title of "Flop Of The Pops", this week! We did pretty well last week, as usual with 38 in the 40, and 45 in the 50 on the singles front (even though KOL did not manage to last at the top `til Tuesday)! In the combined albums, we had 16 in the 20, and 28 in the 30. As our charts are compiled from Tues - Mon (along with pre-orders, and Monday Sales), it make`s it equivalent to the Melody Maker Charts that were printed between 1969 - 1982. Back in March 1987, Radio Luxembourg did ok, and came up with this: 01 NE THE GREAT PRETENDER - FREDDIE MERCURY 02 NE EVERYTHING I OWN - BOY GEORGE 03 03 LIVE IT UP - MENTAL AS ANYTHING 04 01 WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN - PERCY SLEDGE 05 02 STAND BY ME - BEN E. KING 06 06 CRUSH ON YOU - JETS 07 17 I GET THE SWEETEST FEELING - JACKIE WILSON 08 09 MANHATTEN SKYLINE - A-HA 09 11 THE RIGHT THING - SIMPLY RED 10 05 MALE STRIPPER - MAN 2 MAN MEETS MAN PARRISH 11 18 IT DOESN`T HAVE TO BE - ERASURE 12 12 SKIN TRADE - DURAN DURAN 13 13 LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE - THE CULT 14 04 RUNNING IN THE FAMILY - LEVEL 42 15 NE RESPECTABLE - MEL AND KIM 16 28 YOU GOTTA FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY - BEASTIE BOYS 17 23 WEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF BEAUTY - ALISON MOYET 18 NE MOONLIGHTING TV THEME - AL JARREAU 19 15 DOWN TO EARTH - CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT 20 21 LOVING YOU IS SWEETER THAN EVER - NICK KAMEN 21 NE SIGN OF THE TIMES - PRINCE 22 NE WATCHING THE WILDLIFE - FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD 23 24 MISSIONARY MAN - EURYTHMICS 24 08 SONIC BOOM BOY - WESTWORLD 25 07 COMING AROUND AGAIN - CARLY SIMON 26 16 YOU ARE MY WORLD `87 - COMMUNARDS 27 NE I AM THE LAW - ANTHRAX 28 10 ROCK THE NIGHT - EUROPE 29 14 I KNEW YOU WERE WAITING FOR ME - ARETHA FRANKLIN/GEORGE MICHAEL 30 NE WILD FRONTIER - GARY MOORE 26 in the 30 for Luxembourg in 1987. They missed with Genesis - Tonight Tonight Tonight, which crept into the Gallup chart at 24 that week. Let`s throw in some other trivia for good measure...and of course Freddie Mercury did not top the Gallup chart, Boy George (one George O`Dowd) did. He gave us the 3rd version of "Everything I Own". At that point it was one of 11 titles, that had been number one for more than one artist(es). Mental As Anything provided the tune featured in Crocodile Dundee. As Al Jarreau scored a top 20 single with the theme to "Moonlighting". Remember Cybil Shepherd? A whole of re-issues...Ben E. King featured in a tv ad. Continued re-issues of Jackie Wilson, maybe over re-issued with that one! Dodgy stuff with Man 2 Man Meets Man Parrish...you don`t hear it much these days, if at all, do you? Mel and Kim (Appleby) scored their only number one, and the sadily short life for Mel. Curiosity Killed The Cat, and their first hit actually entered the chart in December 1986, and took a long time getting up there. Nick Kamen got his jeans on, but had problems following up "Each Time You Break My Heart". "Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever", was a re-make of a 1966 top 30 hit for the Four Tops. Westworld looked promising, but had problems following up "Sonic Boom Boy"....although they were all over the music press. Carly Simon 4 hits, all with 5 year gaps in 1972, 1977, 1982, and 1987`s "Coming Around Again". Indeed she did! Saying that though, she did turn up as "guest vocalist" on Will Powers 1983 hit "Kissing With Confidence". The Communards re-worked their 1985 hit "You Are My World"...couldn`t understand why, as they had plenty of new material to use. All rock with Anthrax, Europe (following up "The Final Countdown"), and Gary Moore.
March 2, 200916 yr Author The Saturdays are the new Rihanna. I have to say though...The Saturdays are much better, than Rihanna. What does the team think? I say Rihanna is not the best female singer in the world, is she?!
March 2, 200916 yr I have to say though...The Saturdays are much better, than Rihanna. What does the team think? I say Rihanna is not the best female singer in the world, is she?! I do however think that it's annoying that the Saturdays will rank higher with their AWFUL Depeche Mode cover than Depeche Mode will rank with their new single "Wrong". <_< Is "Wrong" top 10 on pre-orders now, dave?

No, not in the pre-orders top 10 yet. Have to agree though, it is a pretty sad day that a cover beats the original (in chart popularity). Depeche Mode always had difficulty getting in the top 5. Their airplay was always (sadly) limited. Radio One gave them some, maybe not enough. Independant Radio hardly touched them, and certainly no Radio Two play! Over at Radio Two, in those days in the early 80s...you were hard pushed to hear the number one any week, with the "easy listening" doing the job. Possibly a thin line between Radio 1 & 2 then. These days Radio Two, covering a bigger set. The presenters though, leave a lot to be desired. Which I hate personally.
March 2, 200916 yr I have to say though...The Saturdays are much better, than Rihanna. What does the team think? I say Rihanna is not the best female singer in the world, is she?! Rihanna is a bit overrated, but the Saturdays have better songs IMHO. Anyway thanks Dave

A sad day for the music, as once again is shown is more "industry" than "music". It happens exactly as with the awful cover of Hallelujah and other awful covers floating the charts :puke2: . But I bet Depeche Mode will go Top 10 in other countries in EU, at least in Germany  !
March 2, 200916 yr Rihanna isn't very good Live at all. But she does know what her fans want LOL and I personally prefer Rihanna's stuff at the moment, but I've had longer to get to grips with Ri-Ri than I have The Sats. VERY interesting Preview... I think Flo is pretty much guaranteed a Top 3 this week, challenging for Number 1, but I don't know how big Kelly's or The Sats physicals will be, so it's a pretty hard chart to predict/guess... 'Chip Diddy Chip' will also make the Top 40 I reckon after peaking quite high on iTunes... Thanks so much for this Dave :D
