I strongly dislike ITV. All of their programming just seems... braindead and dull and all-too-uniform. I don't understand how their audience share is so high . I've struggled to find exceptions, too.

More and more people these days are streaming TV from the internet or they're simply downloading the progs they want to watch from P2P sites..... Downloading has the (pretty big IMO) benefit of not having to put up with adverts.....

There will always be a TV audience. Many of those downloading are under 25 leaving a huge chunk of the market to be used/abused by advertisers. *note* Many, not all. There are a growing number of Techsavvy over 25's who are starting to exploit the full use of the internet.

What is important is what programs are being downloaded by the demographic on the internet. From my experience they tend to be American Series along the lines of 90210, Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, Laguna Beach etc etc etc and a small number of UK based TV shows such as Skins.

Reality TV and Soaps are rarely downloaded and still make for good Family TV. Last year my whole family watch Britain's got Talent on a Saturday night, the only reality TV show my dad has ever watched.

You'd be surprised actually.... I dont download any of the stuff you mentioned, I cant stand rubbish like that.... I've actually been able to get stuff like the quality Aussie crime drama "Underbelly", and "Rush" as well, as well as UK stuff like The Tudors and Rome... I'm also watching a pretty damn good Canadian drama called "Regenesis" just now.... Granted, I DO download stuff like "Lost", CSI and "Supernatural" as well though.....

It can sod off for all I care. The BBC is the only channel worth watching really. Although C4 has a couple of shows I happily watch....

The only BBC programme I watch regularly now is Waterloo Road. The rest of the time I watch ITV or Ch4.

Coronation Street? Far superior to Eastenders and still quality after nearly 50 years! Although my fave ITV show right now is a US import, Dexter. Brilliant series.

my experience is entirely based around people of 18-20.

Bones is another popular one.

Have you seen any of the new Underbelly? dubbed 'The Tail Of Two Cities' i know it's not long started on Aussie telly and i wondered if it was worth watching?

I'm just back from Oz - Underbelly is everywhere over there but I didn't watch it - seemed to be full of ex Neighbours and Home and Away actors.

Oh and ITV can sod off - atrocious programming. I literally can't think of one programme I watch or would ever watch on that channel.

I can't understand how they can say advertising revenue is drastically down

Until a few years ago, in an hour long program they used to have 2 breaks of 3 minutes each. Now they have 3 breaks around 5-6 minutes each.

ITV is terrible. Poor programes aside from Midsummer Murders and the odd drama. I've never understood why they didn't go for US imports? Lost, Prison Break and 24 make a KILLING for Sky One. I guess it could probably be down to the fact the ones ITV have got the rights to before have flopped massively in the US...

But ITV has shelled out so much money for the FA Cup and England matches. Add that to their Champions League coverage then it's very costly...
