I don't think it would really impose much of a load on the hosts - it would just be a matter of taking on more votes. We'll definitely have to incorporate something along these lines anyway if we go to three semis otherwise the chances of something missing out because of the semi it's in will be quite high...

If we were to have three semis then surely we'd keep the current rule of you can only vote in your own semi. The best in the contest should never have trouble qualifying - if it does it it is not a worthy winner.

True, it's statistically unlikely, but you get winners who get nothing from 15 voters. Say we had three semis of 16 (we almost did this time, but I thought that'd be slightly too small) the 'winner' could be put with the 15 that don't like it.

 

We're sort of at an equilibrium right now. We're too big to carry on with two semis (voting in these two is going to be so hard) but we're not big enough to have three semis. Then again, in VIII, we've had 17 in a semi but that was probably down to there being 4 auto-qualifiers.

For sure you 'may' be put in a semi with people who don't like your song, but surely a winning song should have wide appeal. If everyone was put in a semi with people who like their songs then there wouldn't be the unpredicatbility of semis. IMO it's fun to have a 'favorite' knocked out in a semi as it makes you think 'ooh is it me?' (unfortunately sometimes it is).

If it's any help, I'll be sitting out of the next few contests due to "personal issues" so you are down one country already. :P

Hmm...I get the feeling I'm going to be disappointing some people come Sunday. I haven't done as much of my assignment as I was hoping to get done by now. I'm under a third of the way through. I was going to do a third a day starting from Thursday, to be done in time for the BJSC. But on Thursday I kinda saw the first question and cowered. I started it today but only got through the first 27% of the marks available before stalling again. Apparently I didn't prepare properly for this. Ideally it needs to be sent off on Monday morning really. I'll try and get through as much as I can manage of it tomorrow but it's beginning to look like it will need to run into Sunday.

 

In short: I'm not sure if I'll be done with the assignment in time to host a spectacular show on Sunday. Thankfully revealing the qualifiers shouldn't take too much prep and I may be able to get it done. But if I don't...sorry in advance. I should have thought about hosting before I took the offer, perhaps.
