The final of Britain's Got Talent peaked with over 19 million viewers last night, according to early figures.

A peak audience of 19.19m (71.6%) were tuned in to ITV1 at 9.50pm to see dance act Diversity crowned the surprise winners over long-time favourite Susan Boyle. The ratings figure is thought to be the highest ever peak for a reality TV programme in the UK.

Overall, the 30-minute results programme averaged a huge 17.33m (67.6%) for ITV between 9.30pm and 10pm.

The earlier Talent show, which saw the ten finalists take to the stage to give their performances, averaged out to 15.32m (71%) between 6.45pm and 8.30pm. A peak audience of 18.02m (75%) were watching at 8.10pm.

ITV2's spinoff show Britain's Got More Talent also benefited from the buzz surrounding finale night. A pre-results programme, shown between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, picked up 1.64m (8.3%), then the post-results show averaged 2.37m (13.5%) from 10pm. The channel's coverage peaked with 3.09m (15.6%) at 10.05pm.

In between the two Talent shows on ITV1, celebrity gameshow All Star Mr & Mrs had a predictably strong performance, averaging 7.3m (33.1%). Straight after the Talent final, new comedy Mumbai Calling launched to a decent 4.88m (23.4%).

ITV1's average primetime share was a colossal 49.2%, while ITV2 averaged 5.4%.

Fking Incredible. Knew it would do well but that is amazing.

Wow :o That's almost a third of the country!
can't believe Flawless only finished 8th and Hollie 10th.

Where did you get that from? Expected for Flawless, :cheer: for Hollie :kink:

For those who havent seen it, the final positions are:

1st = Diversity

2nd = Susan Boyle

3rd = Julian Smith

4th = Stavros Flatley

5th = Shaheen Jafargholi

6th = Shaun Smith

7th = Aidan Davis

8th = Flawless

9th = 2 Grand

10th = Hollie Steel

I'm surprised 2 Grand even got that many votes.

Ew @ Stavros Flatley even coming close. :/ Can someone explain to me why people like them? I had in my facebook status 'Stavros Flatley to die pls' and I practically got killed for saying so. I didn't see the appeal AT ALL.

OK, I was out last night sober at a family do.

So I videod BGT, to watch this morning. I'm so proud I did not find out the result until I watched the show this morning as it made it even better:

My thoughts on the acts performing:

Flawless: Like their Semi performance. Technically ahem flawless, but lacking that extra spark needed that the other dance act had.

Shaheen: Yawn. Repeating the showstopping MJ song that he sung in his audition. Knowing that he has appeared in the musical Thriller as the young Michael Jackson, makes me think what is the point of this. Dull.

Aidan: Kudos, for attempting a brand new routine, just 24 Hours later after his Semi. Unfortunately he does not quite pull it off as it feels more disjointed than his previous performance.

2 Grand: Should never have been anywhere near the Final. Hideous attempt at A Whole New World, sounds more like Peter Andre & Katie Price strangling each other. The sob story is no excuse this is terrible.

Hollie Steel: Completely unfair that she was given a second chance in her Semi Final. But, incredibly this is the best performance on the night by a child brat IMHO. But spoilt it all by her nauseating comments to pull on the heart-strings to perform in front of the Queen.

Stavros Flatley: More like One Trick Pony. Their routine is funny first time. Amusing second time; but on the third time it becomes plain dull and annoying. But at least they are self aware enough to know they are not brilliant.

Shaun Smith: Ain't No Sunshine? More like dull overcast Tuesday morning with drizzle! If you are going to attempt this song then you have to be somewhere close to Will Young's brilliant Pop Idol 1 performance of that song..... but that performance was just drab.

Susan Boyle: She goes back to performing I Dreamed A Dream. She performs it very well, and I love the warm tone of her voice, but the element of surprise is gone. Anyone who thinks she's got the win in the bag is deluding themselves IMHO.

Diversity: OMG. THIS IS AMAZING!!!! 3rd different performance in 3 shows. They were my favourite act before the Final, but this is amazing. Tight performance, but full of flair, energy and creative choreography. I loved the red cap buzzer bit. They just have to win (and my 14/1 each way bet is looking pretty solid!)

Julian Smith: Another very good strong lovely performance, but does the world need a new Kenny G/Acker Bilk? However, being such a different act, and going last makes me wonder if he could win.

In short after watching that I thought the Top 3 deserved to be:

1st Diversity

2nd Susan Boyle

3rd Julian Smith

I predicted the Top 3 would be:

1st Diversity

2nd Julian Smith

3rd Susan Boyle

As you can guess I was rather happy with the outcome, and have already been out to pick up my winnings. :w00t:

I was pretty surprised to be honest with Julian Smith coming third after Diversity's performance it was a hard act to follow the competition winners, I'm glad Flawless went first of the 2 dance acts to perform otherwise if it was the other way round it could have been easily forgettable, I give 10/10 to Diversity for such an original performance, nothing lacklustre about it, it was beautifully choreographed, kudos to them. Best act won on the night, and 2 fingers up at SuBo.

ITV said that out of the nearly four million votes cast Diversity secured 24.9% of the public vote, while Boyle received 20.2% and Smith received 16.4%.

Can't believe Aidan was so low :cry:

But he was better in the semis...

Suprised Hollie came last, would have thought it would be 2 Grand. Im reallu suprised Julian came third though, very pleased he did though, he was much better than the acts who finished 4th and 5th.
only 4million votes out of almost 20 million watching, i'm sure X Factor got 8 million from 12 million.
But in an X Factor final there's 3 people, BGT there's 10. If you vote for your favourite in X Factor your favourite is more likely to win whereas the odds are against you in BGT.
no 4 million votes total for every act is low.

Diversity were very deserving winners ... and as the judgest pointed out - Susan was a very, very gracious runner up. I think she actually looked a little relieved that she hadn't won and she was very, very genuine in her praise of Diversity - no sour grapes at all. I think it was a shame that the press had to have a dig at her all this week as it seems from some quarters that this is what turned people off her. In turn, I find this takes away some of the glory of Diversity's win when for my money, they won 100% from their own talent and efforts and not at someone else's expense.

Norma

Very deserving winner was Diversity. I also was shockingly estatic. I don't think it matter that Susan came 2nd but i was in complete shock that Julian came 3rd, pleased but suprised. Very good final 3 and from the after result order happy to see Stavros 4th as the top 4 were all the main standouts IMO. Pleased 2 Grand didn't get get the end position but Hollie last :lol: Poor girl really got a lot of people thinking she's an attention sympathy drama queen and might not like her as she does indeed have a very sweet beautiful voice but ruined herself on Friday :(

Such a lacklustre act? I'd like to see you do that dance... They were CLEARLY the best on the night, please define to me how they are 'lacklustre'?

As for Susan, she finished in the right poistion IMO. She didn't want to win, she's faced alot of issue with the media this week and, most important of all, she wasn't the best act. For once, the British Public make the RIGHT choice.

Compared to the other dance act, dozens of acts on ABDC then yes, they were lacklusture, in my opinion of course ~
