Posted April 27, 200916 yr WARNING. THIS CONTAINS POTENSHUL SPOILERS ETC. Apprentice star Mona Lewis made a homophobic comment during filming for the BBC One reality series, it has been claimed. The 28-year-old businesswoman, who was raised in Tanzania, reportedly offended her gay teammate Howard Ebison by expressing controversial views on the programme. According to the Sunday Mirror, the row began when Sir Alan Sugar challenged the candidates to create a new image for the seaside town of Margate. After Ebison suggested rebranding the location as a gay resort, Lewis apparently rejected the idea before admitting that she would not like her six-year-old son to meet a homosexual man. An insider told the newspaper: "Howard did very well to keep his cool as he was extremely offended. He had to put up with a certain amount of homophobic abuse when he was growing up, so this really upset him. "The group was stunned that someone as intelligent as Mona could have such old-fashioned views. Even though she was raised in a country with more traditional values, her comments were indefensible." Show producers are still said to be considering how much of the incident will air amid fears that it could offend viewers.
April 27, 200916 yr Which one is Howard? He's the one with the really strange eyes! He was in the 'pants' advert with Lorraine! Norma
April 27, 200916 yr Howard is the sort of attractive one that makes most people go Howard..Seriously? Anyway, not only is Mona useless, she's also a bigotted idiot. Hopefully this task is in the next few weeks, it's not next week we know that so Mona and Howard must survive next week anyway, but hopefully this task is soon so Mona can be fired asap.

I think he's attractive as well to be honest. His eyes are really strange but not in a horrible way ... like a sort of 'Bette Davis' eyes way - really big and a bit staring. I do think he is one of the more serious contenders in this and don't know why he gets so much stick off people. He was quite good in the first task as PM - it wasn't his fault some of his 'numpty' team chose to not act on some of his instructions (big mouth Phil being one of them!!!!) I also like the way he doesn't seem to care what the others think - speaks his mind and he isn't as sly or two faced as a lot of the others in there. However ... I was a bit annoyed that he didn't back Lorraine up in the boardroom on the last episode. Edit - having said that ... I do think all of them in this series are a bit pants. Even those on last week's winning team. Norma Edited April 27, 200916 yr by Norma_Snockers
April 27, 200916 yr Yes it is annoying that he's being labelled in the same category as Noorul for being quiet. I mean, how insulting can you get?
April 27, 200916 yr I don't see the big deal really I find homophobia abhorrent but there is some very conservative countries out there where homophobia is the norm like much of islam, jamaica, many states in Africa and while their views on homosexulity are f***ed up its the way they have been bought up, likewise there is stuff about their culture we find abhorrent so much as her comments are distasteful she has been bought up in a country where views on homosexuality are very conservative so she has a right to her opinion even if it is clearly the wrong one Muslims and conservative christians frown upon homosexuality, we frown upon muslims having child brides and stoning adulterous women, its the way we have been bought up, she has been bought up to be against gays, she has the right to free speech Edited April 27, 200916 yr by B.A Baracus

(apart from us frowning on stoning isn't quite the same) Obviously she's quite wrong with her views, why shouldn't a homosexual person interact with a child? But I'm not particularly surprised that someone with this background would feel that way. If it came from Kate or James, for example, I would be more disappointed. Though I would have thought living with Howard for however long she has on the show might have changed her opinion. Rebranding somewhere as a gay resort seems a bit of a stupid idea anyway. Surely it would be better to try making homosexual people feel welcome everywhere instead of the odd gay-friendly location for them? It seems a bit "gay people should go HERE" when they should be the same as everyone else.
April 27, 200916 yr free speach isnt always protected, especially when it results in discrimation or if it can emotionally harm someone...

May 29, 200916 yr And we have the right to have the freedom of speech to tell that bible-bashing bigot to "fukk off and die"..... And we have the right to tell a certain intelligence poster who should know better not to believe a tabloid newspaper is telling the gospel truth. Fired 'Apprentice' denies gay row report Thursday, May 28 2009, 05:56 BST By Alex Fletcher, Senior Entertainment Reporter Fired Apprentice candidate Howard Ebison has denied reports that he experienced homophobic remarks on the show. Earlier in the series, tabloid reports suggested that the 24-year-old business hopeful was offended by comments from fellow candidate Mona Lewis. It was alleged that Lewis didn't back Ebison's plans for a gay theme on their Rebrand Margate challenge, while one newspaper claimed that she told contestants that she wouldn't want her son to visit a gay holiday resort. When she was fired from the show in week eight, Lewis rubbished the stories, insisting that she had a "good gay friend" who spent time with her child. Speaking about the rumours, Ebison told DS: "I've not been upset or experienced any homophobic remarks at all on the show. "I have no issues with any candidate." The retail business manager also accepted that Sir Alan Sugar may have picked the right person for the axe this week, after the multi-millionaire accused him of being "ordinary". "What he said about not taking risks was a fair comment. My jobs to date have been about implementing very clear strategies and not deviating from them," he said. "I could certainly do with being more maverick in the future." The Apprentice continues next Wednesday at 9pm. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/theappre...ow-report.html

I mean, certainly did take a long time for anyone associated with the show (whether a candidate or producer) to deny the original claims.... And you're quoting a source as notoriously dodgy as Digitalspy every time you post is a bit rich, I mean, they're hardly any better than a bloody Tabloid....  :P
