January 3, 20205 yr It’s going a bit too far to compare her to Jessie J! I still never figured out why she got SO much flack for her judging stint, yeah, she wasn’t great but she was sitting with Gary Barlow, Tulisa and Louis Walsh so she was actually the least horrific person there. I have to say the material from her second album was crap. She is so talented but anyone could have done Elephant and everyone was doing the equivalent at the time. She should have played to her strengths. Then again, Syco lose interest in everyone pretty quickly. Who is actually still signed to them? Lol Elephant. Remember when she said she wanted to be the first person to bring the saying elephant in the room to the UK  another one of her hilarious calamities.
January 12, 20205 yr She was incredible on XF in 2008 but Syco royally messed up marketing her. First that bob was horrendous. Going down the Gaga-lite electro-pop route did her talent a disservice. All Night Long was the song she got right and it is probably the one song from the era that has stood the test of time. It should have launched her album tbh followed by Perfect in January then Goodnight Good Morning in April. I actually quite enjoyed Elephant but the video looked like it was directed by undergrad students and the blatant rip off of Rih's WFL video with the trolley was cringe. They could've at least tried to salvage her second album with Tonight. I think at that point though the damage was done and her music career was dying. She could've easily been marketed as a British Beyonce/Rihanna with a cooler image and sound but it wasn't to be.
January 12, 20205 yr I was surprised how bad the 2nd album did as she had a good debut era, syco just seemed to have had no interest in her 2nd album at all.
January 12, 20205 yr I was surprised how bad the 2nd album did as she had a good debut era, syco just seemed to have had no interest in her 2nd album at all. She was with RCA then. None of the music she recorded with Syco for album 2 originally made it to RCA. She was in the studio with Rico Love, RedOne and Swizz Beats a lot but RCA went for a different approach. She wanted to have more R&B influences She was incredible on XF in 2008 but Syco royally messed up marketing her. First that bob was horrendous. I Get this sentiment, but I also kind o get why Syco went more uptempo and pop with Alex. She had the stage presence and the ability to PERFORM a song. The comparisons with Leona were already there on the X-Factor and Leona was on Syco. If they went all in on the voice aspect (aka another female singing more slow songs) theyd shoot themselves in the foot
January 12, 20205 yr I think Syco got it wrong with her, and RCA got it even more wrong. She was getting the hits with songs from her first album but now it feels like Syco sold her off down the river for a few cheap hits. That said, I did like many of her songs. 'All Night Long' and 'The Silence' were great and I still regularly listen to both. The other hits were catchy but didn't really do anything to build her image and have aged quite badly really. Her second album I actually quite enjoyed, but it felt quite half hearted or if she wasn't completely invested in it. 'Let It Go', 'Elephant' and 'Tonight' were all bops but faceless. I remember the last song on that album being quite impressive, but it would never be a hit. She was obviously very popular when she was a contestant on X Factor and I think she had a good crossover appeal. She was cool and contemporary but had a voice that also appealed to the older generation. Maybe they should have gone down the Paloma Faith type route (but with different songs) and release a variety of tracks that appeal to younger and older markets but ultimately have it work together to build up a solid fan base. She certainly had the personality to back her voice up too. Edited January 12, 20205 yr by Parallel Reality
January 29, 20205 yr Saw her in The Bodyguard and she was INCREDIBLE. It is now my favourite live show away from Lion King. I'm seeing her live Saturday too at a club in Birmingham which will be a mess x Gone back to her two albums and they're both solid idec.

She could still come back now with that style but she's probably been too long away from music now to get a hit.
January 29, 20205 yr Or she could do the vocal on a sensible modern dance track by someone like Jax Jones, Meduza or Joel Corry? Edited January 29, 20205 yr by The S***e

March 18, 20205 yr I Get this sentiment, but I also kind o get why Syco went more uptempo and pop with Alex. She had the stage presence and the ability to PERFORM a song. The comparisons with Leona were already there on the X-Factor and Leona was on Syco. If they went all in on the voice aspect (aka another female singing more slow songs) theyd shoot themselves in the foot I agree. But rather than Bad Boys, Broken Heels and Start Without You, she should've been given hits like Don't Stop the Music, Sweet Dreams - even Perfect Nightmare by Shontelle could've been a hit for her. Syco could've done so much with her.
March 18, 20205 yr Unfortunately with Alexandra I think after album one it was a case of her personality people weren’t keen on and that stopping anything from really becoming a success from her. Once a female gets that tag there’s no going back. She could’ve come back with We Found Love and people still wouldn’t have wanted to know. Syco like usual with solo females got the debut album right with her then messed up after. Leona, Ella, Cher Lloyd had similar fates. Little Mix are like the only female act from the show who didn’t peak with era one aren’t they.
March 19, 20205 yr I wouldn't say they got Cher's debut right at all. Swagger Jagger was ridiculed and any sense of cool she had was lost instantly.
March 19, 20205 yr I wouldn't say they got Cher's debut right at all. Swagger Jagger was ridiculed and any sense of cool she had was lost instantly. I agree. Cher could have been big. Back then i remember she got more followers than One Direction, not that it's important but considering how big One Direction became with the right material, i will always wonder what would have happen if she had a different lead single like "Superhero".
March 20, 20205 yr A dance feature would be a nice direction for her now, but does she want one? Hard to say of her & Leona which is more lowkey disliked these days.
March 20, 20205 yr I don't think many people actively dislike Leona. She's just fallen way beneath the radar outside Christmas season. Edited March 20, 20205 yr by Scene
March 25, 20205 yr I wouldn't say they got Cher's debut right at all. Swagger Jagger was ridiculed and any sense of cool she had was lost instantly. She got a #1 and one of the most discussed tracks of that year. And one of the most polarising songs ever from her best but it stood out. Want U Back I’d say is remembered more though. Anyways back to Alexandra I seen this album was on the list of top 100 female albums of the decade so that’s something. I’d also agree to the last few posters too. Leona really isn’t disliked as a person the way Alexandra is. If anything they had the opposite said about their personalities, Leona was always wrongly called boring etc and some people thought she lacked personality as she’s reserved and quite shy where as Alexandra is a very in your face kind of person.
November 7, 20222 yr @1589305152875671553 Love that she’s so enthusiastic and excited about her vinyl! Judging by the design of it, it looks like passion went into the creation of this.
