Posted June 15, 200916 yr Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch - BJSC XI I can't recall the moment I decided that this would be my first entry in BJSC, I think it just came to me. And at no. 4 in the final, it is my best result to date. Was a dark horse. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy - BJSC XII I really had faith in this song, but it flopped hard. It got second last place in the semi-final, the same amount as last place, but with a higher point so it didn't come last. Later I asked people whether it was just too well known or they weren't into it, and someone said it's a fantastic song, but far too well known for BJSC. Hooverphonic - Mad About You - BJSC XIII Was the lowest scoring song in the semi to get through to the final and finished last in the final. I think it's a cute song. Alanis Morissette - Straitjacket - BJSC XIV I thought this would appeal more to the pop/dance people, but it still flopped, coming third last in the semi-final. Not your typical Alanis song. Au Revoir Simone - Dark Halls - BJSC XV I think I discovered this rather cute song in lastfm radio (which I think you have to pay for now), looking for "indie pop" or something. It appealed to me and thought I would give it a chance. Didn't get through to the final. I don't have this song anywhere (yet?). Occasionally I listen to it on YouTube. Halou - Political - BJSC XVI Quite a stunning song, imo. Didn't get through to the final though. Probably more of a headphones song. I love Halou. Probably very unconventional for BJSC. Regina Spektor - Samson - BJSC XVII Again, something a little different. A very pretty song imo. I also entered R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful for the UK #10 spin-off. It finished last in the semi.
June 15, 200916 yr BJSCXV Lady GaGa - Love Game - well, it's a cheap way to not debut badly, finishing 15th in Final. :heehee: BJSCXVI Ambassadors of Funk - Go, Mario, Go! - underperformed as hell. Failed to enter the Final this brillant dark horse. :( BJSCXVII Theoretical Girl - The Hypocrite - TBH, I never prepared for that contest, so I'll just enter anything. It didn't enter but it almost made it. :o BJSC Spin-off 2 The Black Eyed Peas - Bebot - did okay, something not to get serious on. :) Edited June 15, 200916 yr by FunMaker11
June 15, 200916 yr I may as well do this as I'm now off for summer so will probably start entering/trying again. :magic: BJSC I: Mike Oldfield & Maggie Reilly - Moonlight Shadow - 4th from 24. It was the first contest, and I wanted to enter something slightly different. Tbh, the pre-contest comments were a bit hit-and-miss so I wasn't sure how it'd fare, so when it came fourth I was pretty impressed. ^_^ BJSC II: Enya - Exile - 20th from 24. I don't really know why I entered this... I guess just because I was Enya crazy at the time and thought it'd reflect my musical taste and all that. I wasn't surprised at it flopping at all, but at least it didn't come last! BJSC III: Dixie Chicks - Not Ready to Make Nice - 1st from 26. I've always loved this song, and knew quite a few BuzzJackers liked it too, so it seemed logical to enter the Dixie Chicks. I think I just pipped Duffy's 'Mercy' to the title didn't I? Quite an achievement if you ask me. :D BJSC IV: Mike Oldfield & Cara Dillon - Man in the Rain - 14th from 20. Tried and tested formula, ended up doing a bit of a Charlotte Perrelli. Nevertheless, I didn't really want to win again so I didn't mind my relatively low positioning. BJSC V: Revelations - If I Called You on the Telephone - 19th from 24. Tbh, I thought I would've done quite a bit better with this song as their 'Eurovision: Your Decision' song seemed quite a hit with most people on here. Having said that, I think another of their album tracks would've been better, but I couldn't be bothered to upload one onto YouTube! BJSC VI: Fragma - Toca's Miracle - 7th from 29. Muahahaha - the battle between Bhangra and Simondly was settled quite easily in this contest. I didn't really expect to win, but no doubt the 'hype' that we built up contributed somehow - for me anyway! On reflection, I'm surprised I came so high with this. BJSC VII: Dima Bilan - Lady Flame - 5th from 27. I actually thought I had a pretty decent chance of winning with this, but fifth is still very good for a male solo artist singing a Eurovision-esque sort of song. Unfortunately for me, I was only going to reach the top ten once more after this! BJSC VIII: Kate Bush - This Woman's Work - n/a. I initially wanted to enter Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' for this contest, but someone had already entered an alternative version back in the first competition I believe. I went for this, didn't think it'd win but was quite surprised when I failed to qualify. I think I was only a few points from qualification, but it blew my 100% record of qualifying! BJSC IX: Velvet - Fix Me - 5th from 27. Like with Dima, I thought I could've probably got a win with this song. It did appeal to the masses though tbh, and finishing fifth once again was a pretty decent effort I thought. :D BJSC X: Kate Ryan - Free - 27th from 27. Oh dear. I didn't see this coming to be quite honest, I think this is a really good song! At the time though I don't think I put a great deal of thought into my song selection as I was just about to go off to university, so I didn't really give a f*** about coming last either. BJSC XI: Did not enter. No, this wasn't sour grapes; more a mere lack of time! :smoke: BJSC XII: Boney M - Rasputin - 21st from 30. I entered this hoping to gain the novelty vote. I wasn't all too hopeful of qualifying, but I did and narrowly missed out on finishing in the top two thirds. Love the song though! BJSC XIII: Wynter Gordon - Insomnia - 22nd from 28. I thought this would do slightly better tbh. A good song from a good performer, but I suppose it just blended in with the rest. BJSC XIV: Jade Ewen - GotMy$h!tTogeva - 25th from 27. Same with this; and with the hype surrounding Jade I thought that might've helped - but obviously not. BJSC XV: Did not enter. I think I forgot about this one... BJSC XVI: Hadise - A Good Kiss - n/a. Didn't have time to vote in this one, so qualification was always going to be near impossible. As it was, I wouldn't have qualified anyway even if I had voted! BJSC XVII: Did not enter. No time, but I'll be back for the next one. :D
June 15, 200916 yr I'll do this after my exam. It may have a bitter/bitchy edge in some places *coughXVIIcough*
June 15, 200916 yr III - The Shortwave Set 'Casual Use' - I love this song and think the band are criminally underappreciated. It's a great pop song and samples Madness. Whenever I've introduced it elsewhere it's gone down fairly well, it was a massive flop here though, 23rd out of 26 with 16 points. IV - The Pipettes 'Pull Shapes' - For me their debut album is by far the best pop album of the decade. This is one of the standouts from it and my favourite song that I've sent. My best result coming 2nd with 93 points, losing to 'Love Song' by 5. If only I didn't give it so many points! V - Operator Please 'Just A Song About Ping Pong' - Probably my least favourite of my entries. Just a random choice really. Did ok, 13/24. VI - Foals 'Hummer' - The first time I went properly 'indie'. Didn't do particuarly well, 26/29 but with a points deduction. VII - Ida Maria 'Queen of the World' - I really liked this and thought it'd do better than it did at 23/27. VIII - The Hot Puppies 'The Girl Who Was Too Beautiful' - Came 16/17 in the semi final, my first non-qualifier. I do really like this, probably a little too understated for this contest. IX - John Legend ft Andre 3000 'Green Light' - Came 20/26. Thought it might do a bit better than that but still ok. My cheapest entry ever but I still love it. X - PNAU ft Ladyhawke 'Embrace' - I adore this song and was delighted it came 5th. Probably the most popular of all my entries. XI - Alela Diane 'The Pirate's Gospel' - 19/21 in the semi. Was a bit of a random choice really, didn't know what to send. XII - LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' - 19/22 in the semi. Bit of a risk. Didn't come close to paying off. XIII - Shinichi Osawa ft Rubies 'Dreamhunt' - 17/21 in the semi. Was disappointed with this, I love it but I don't think it was instant enough and too long to be a success. XV - Los Campesinos! 'Ways To Make It Through The Wall' - 22/29. Love the song, perhaps should've entered it earlier but pleased with how it did. XVI - Animal Collective 'Summertime Clothes' - My 2nd favourite after 'Pull Shapes'. One of my favourite songs of this year, think it surprised a few non-indie people with finishing as high as 15/29. Only the top two of the contest got more 12s. Pretty big hit. XVII - Buraka Som Sistema 'Sound of Kuduro' - I was hoping M.I.A. would help this qualify so everyone would have to hear it. Sending rap that's not even in English is never going to go down that well though... 16/23 in the semi.
June 15, 200916 yr VII The Saturdays 'If This Is Love' - DNQ - I dont know why, epic song. VIII Janet 'Feedback' - DNQ - Looking back this was ridiculous and was never going to qualify LOL. IX Sneaky Sound System 'Pictures' - 15th - My first qualification though looking back not sure why I loved the track so much X Lady GaGa ' Paparazzi' - 2nd - YAY. 2nd best entry EVER. Love this song still <3 XI Kate Voegele 'Hallelujah' - 12th - A bit of a last minute entry, nice track nothing special.. XII Lesley Roy 'I'm Gone I'm Going' - 8th - Introduced by MIKALD, amazing song and amazed it came top 10 LOL. XIII Ana Johnsson 'Coz I Can' - 27th - DAM. I was so proud i'd found my OWN ENTRY and KABLAM it FLOPS. XIV Amy Studt 'Nice Boys' - 12th - Nice song, nothing special now i look back :/ XV BoA 'I Did It For Love' - 21st - BIGGEST INJUSTICE EVER XVI La Roux 'Bulletproof' - 2nd - I still beleive if Mdice/Kopecka had entered this it would have won. BOOMBOOMPOW
June 15, 200916 yr IV - The Pipettes 'Pull Shapes' - For me their debut album is by far the best pop album of the decade. This is one of the standouts from it and my favourite song that I've sent. My best result coming 2nd with 93 points, losing to 'Love Song' by 5. If only I didn't give it so many points! I remember when I was collating all the results for this contest, you were leading by a good 30 or 40 points at one point. :o Then all of a sudden votes for you stopped coming in and Rich started getting loads of 12s and tens.
June 15, 200916 yr The 411 - Dumb - 11th First entry and what a debut, heck i evem sabotaged the Juranabijan national final so i could enter it. Didnt expect it to do so well. Chris Brown & Keri Hilson - Superhuman - 26th What the hell happened here? This was predicted top 3, top 5 and top 10 at the worst. Looking back i regret entering this, i dont really rate it that much now. Jamelia - La La Love - 24th This was never expetced to do well and i really didnt know what to enter that month. Fab song though Cookie - Do It Again - 18th The second girlgroup entered by Lorikeet. Not my best entry, but i would have liked something better than 18th Kelly Osbourne - One Word - 4th At this point, id given up trying to find songs that would do well so just entered anything. And i somehow managed to come 4th. Wow Beverley Knight - Shoulda Woulda Coulda - 13th A good result, but it should have finished top 10 Girls Aloud - Singapore - 17th WTF? This is just pure amazingness and should have done much better than 17th VV Brown - Leave - 8th Second top 10 finish. Fantatsic song. The Saturdays - Work - 14th/26th 14th without the deduction which is still shockingly low for such a great song Stacie Orrico - More To Life - ?? Amazing song which will underperform
June 15, 200916 yr BJSC07 - Lady GaGa - Just Dance [2nd Place] My Breakthrough entry, not to sound cocky but I knew this was going to do well. It was obvious, and yes this was MONTHS before it became a hit :P. BJSC08 - Alesha - Ting-A-Ling [25th Place] Not surprised this flopped on its arse, it's a good song but she was literally an unknown at this point, plus the song isn't very BJSC-friendly. BJSC09 - The Veronicas - This Love [6th Place] This I was in complete LOVE with right before the contest, still love in fact. I'm glad it did really well as I was worried I was going to be a ONE-SMASH-WONDER. BJSC10 - Tiffany Evans - Impossible [DNQ] This SO deserved to qualify! It's my favourite entry (bar Just Dance) ever! I was expecting a shock smash with this I sharen't lie. BJSC11 - Sibel Redzep - I'm Sorry [10th Place] After Tiffany's failure I decided to go with something I felt was an obvious hit, it's got an Umbrella vibe which I assumed would be an instant hit. 10th is still good though :) BJSC12 - Kandi - Don't Think I'm Not [DNQ] Not quite sure why I thought this was going to do anything other than DNQ. It's a brilliant song but totally OLD and dated. BJSC13 - The Veronicas – I Can’t Stay Away [5th Place] Again after the flop I went 'safe', can you see the pattern yet? LOL smash-flop-smash-flop haha. BJSC14 - Krystal Meyers - Feels So Right [16th Place] This is SO BJSC friendly it's quite SCARY! I can't believe it did so poorly?! Most people predicted Top 10 for this so it deffinitely underperformed :(. BJSC15 - Cassie - Let's Get Crazy [18th Place] I had nothing else this month, basically LOL. I knew this would get about #18 or lower, so hardly surprised or dissapointed. BJSC16 - Jessica Jarrell - Armageddon [7th Place] This is FIYAH, surprised it did AS well as it did though, thought it go under the radar. BJSC17 - Livvi Franc - Now I'm That Bitch [??] GET IT LIVVI.
June 15, 200916 yr VII: Gavin Mikhail 'Fight the Sky' - DNQ - GUTTED This DNQ'd :( I thought it was quite a strong track, but it's a MALE so I should have guessed! :drama: VIII: Kate Nash 'Skeleton Song' - 13th - My first Qualification and my first "hit". My favourite from her album. IX: Twiins 'I Don't Know Why' - 18th - I really thought I found a potential Top 10'r here OBVIOUSLY I saw something most others unfortunately didn't see :(, STILL play this quite a bit. X: Katy Perry 'Self Inflicted' - 18th - I REGRET sending this now, and NOT 'Hot N Cold' as that could have been a potential winner at the time, as nobody heard it then. However 'Self Inflicted' still remains one of my favourite tracks from her, so I don't feel TOO bad :P XI: Britney Spears 'Everytime (Hi-Bias Remix)' - 27th [Last] - HA! I sent this as I really WAS stuck for entries and just saw the single on my shelf and remembered this remix  XII: Gavin Mikhail 'Brave' - DNQ - You would have thought I learnt my lesson if 'Fight the Sky' couldn't Qualify, then this obviously wouldn't :( Shame really as he is a really good singer/songwriter! XIII: Yolanda Adams 'I Believe' - DNQ - Well this came as I was routing through some old compilations that I used to make :heehee: and I thought it would be perfect, obviously NOT haha! :( XIV: Rihanna 'Hatin' On the Club' - 26th - As soon as I confirmed, I was thinking to myself, WHAT ON EARTH?! LMAO. I was just caught in the moment when picking I guess HA! XV: Keri Hilson feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo 'Knock You Down' - 10th - My BEST finishing place so far, and what a song to do it with! My favourite single of the year so far, I personally think it deserved better than 10th :( But I believe people started to like it AFTER they bloody voted :P XVI: The Yeah Yous '15 Minutes' - 26th - Well, I was in LOVE with this at the time I entered it, but now I've gone off it already LOL! Don't regret sending it though. XVII: LeToya 'She Ain't Got $h!t' - ??? - Really love this at the moment. Couldn't have come at a better time either HAHA! Hoping to score my second top 10. But I kinda don't want it to do better than 'Knock You Down', but that's gonna be $h!t if I think like that ha! SpinOff 1: The Killers 'Mr Brightside' - 4th - My ALL TIME favourite song! So GLAD it was a UK Number 10's contest. Although the song deserved to do better chart-wise, it has really become their signature song, and when they play it live, the whole place ERUPTS! (Well that's from what I've HEARD :() SpinOff 2: DIDNOTENTER!
June 15, 200916 yr XVI La Roux 'Bulletproof' - 2nd - I still beleive if Mdice/Kopecka had entered this it would have won. BOOMBOOMPOW It would've if Mdice sent it. Because they wouldn't have sent 'Shark in the Water' :kink:

June 15, 200916 yr XVI La Roux 'Bulletproof' - 2nd - I still beleive if Mdice/Kopecka had entered this it would have won. BOOMBOOMPOWLike they would have probably got points from Kath :o
June 15, 200916 yr XIII :: Elin Lanto - Discotheque // 4th What a debut IMO, the best thing I have sent, the best thing I will probably ever send. I can't describe how much I love this, I was amazed it did as well as it did, but it fully deserved it IMO. 4th was amazing, and beyond my expectations! XIV :: Noisettes - Don't Upset The Rhythm // 6th I actually didn't think that was very cheap, it was just a song from an advert, that from my view, wasn't going to do very well, at that moment in time. Was delighted it came 6th, and another Top 10 finish :D XV :: Kim Leoni - Medicine // 3rd Not my favourite entry, but my most successful. I'm glad, but I'd much rather have got this position with Elin, Noisettes or Booty. XVI :: Booty Luv - Say It // 9th So, it was kind of cheap [despite having only just premiered, and not having a video etc etc..] but I loved it. It nearly fell out of the Top 10, which I would've been disappointed with, but in a VERY strong contest, I am happy it got 9th :) XVII :: SamSaya - Money // N/A We'll see...but I think it was a good steal.
June 15, 200916 yr I - Jordin Sparks - Tattoo - 3rd I remember being very annoyed that this finished 3rd behind Maneater! Fabulous song, deffo should've been second... II - Vanessa Williams - Save the Best for Last - 11th Oh my, WHAT a mistake it was to send this! 11th looks decent enough, but when you think that the national final which this won is probably results-wise the most successful of them all (with Vanessa beating out Stefy and Elena - who I later sent and both finished 3rd and 4th respectively (ignoring the non-vote for Elena :arrr:) - and The Veronicas with Hook Me Up, who Mdice sent the next contest and finished 7th). I was obsessed with the song at the time, and no way would I send this now! III - Jordin Sparks - Freeze - 19th I still can't explain this result, although it was mitigated a little by it at least qualifying for the final of the Best of and finishing above a fair few winners! I think I may have just sent it a little too soon... IV - Stefy - Chelsea - 3rd It's a shame that this was the low-point of pretty much everyone's interest in the contest - at the time it was really haemorraging popularity, and even I'd stopped particularly caring about the contest. I was pleased with this result, but if it happened again today I'd be ecstatic! V - Elena Paparizou - Gigolo - 4th (w/o vote deduction, 10th with) Agh, if only I'd had computer access for this holiday! :arrr: I'd have finished 4th if I'd been able to vote, but I still managed a respectable 10th without voting. Don't think this would do anywhere near as well if I sent it today though... VI - Serebro - Opium - 9th This was SUCH a disappointing result in retrospect! In the weeks leading up to this contest it seemed like I had it in the bag with basically all odds being offered having me in the top 3 or winning...indeed, it looked like that was how it was going to go from the first few votes until I had a massive drought of points which knocked me out of contention. I reckon the language barrier stopped this, but at least I've now learned to not always trust the odds! VII - Rachel Stevens - I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) - 7th I'm actually quite shocked this did so well in retrospect! I think Kelly Osbourne is the only other example I can think of of an old but popular song doing so well in the contest - very deserved though, given it's probably my favourite pop song of all time... VIII - Little Boots - Meddle - 11th If only I'd waited a contest and sent Ashlee to this one instead! -_- Criminally underrated at the time... IX - Ashlee Simpson - Little Miss Obsessive - 7th Yeah, this would've probably done just as well in VIII along with the semi-cheap stuff. I adored this at the time - and still do to a degree, given it's easily the best thing Ashlee's ever done - but it doesn't particularly blend in well with the majority of my entries. X - Camille - Money Note - 8th Quite surprisingly for most people, I rank this as my biggest achievement in the BJSC! (Especially considering it would have finished 5th had Gary not forgotten to give Camille 12 as he said after the contest :P) This is quite possibly the biggest risk that I've ever taken off and I'm shocked that it paid off so well tbh! It got votes from a wide range of tastes, and remains the most love-hate song of the contest (well, the most love-hate one that actually qualified ) XI - Janelle Monae - Many Moons - 19th I'm not particularly shocked that this flopped, given it's a 6-minute long R&B epic which probably went over most people's heads, and the big achievement for this came in it qualifying - which it did by the skin of its teeth! Fantastic song though, and its failure was mitigated by... XII - La Roux - Quicksand - 1st Oh, I was so over the moon with this! Given that I'd been waiting 12 contests for my first victory, this last-minute victory was really quite unexpected, especially as Mdice had been leading for the vast majority of the voting! I still adore this, and am quite pleased that it managed to attract some unexpected votes ^_^ XIII - N.A.S.A./Kanye West/Santogold/Lykke Li - Gifted - 26th Oh, this was an AWFUL entry in retrospect, I don't know what came over me. Oh wait, I do - Aaron  Then again, if this had done well I probably wouldn't have complained - GOD knows why I didn't send Little Boots - Every Little Earthquake to this contest though :/ XIV - Saint Etienne - Method of Modern Love - 19th This one was another disappointment, given I'd thought this would go low top ten, but I was pleased that I managed to avoid the 20-somethings! This was another one to the general rule of thumb that I tend to finish either 3rd, 4th, 7th, 11th, or 19th :heehee: XV - Erik Hassle - Hurtful - 4th This one was good as I really didn't expect this to do so well! I thought low top ten was the most I could hope for, so I was really pleased (especially after the failure of XIII) to come top 5 with a male entry. Probably my favourite ever male entry to the contest given it spent 8 weeks at #1 in my chart! XVI - Dead Disco - You're Out [Frankmusik Remix] - DNQ Oh, this was really disappointing :( It was quite lucky that I wasn't particularly bothered with this result as real life was a more pressing issue at the time, but I still don't quite know what it was that led to this missing out - wrong semi? Overly electro? Or Little Boots saturation? Should've sent YENN to this contest in retrospect, although hopefully she'll get her chance in XVIII! XVII - Kaci Battaglia - Crazy Possessive - ? Oooh, I do wonder how this will do :o The bookies seem to predict top five for this, I personally think I could get anywhere from 1st to 10th with it. Epic tune though!
June 15, 200916 yr X: Zebra & Giraffe - The Knife - DNQ A very last minute entry, I think I confirmed two minutes before the confirmation thread was locked. Had no idea how bias BJSC was to Pop/Dance at the time - Indie wasn't even big yet at that stage, so being an Alternative Rock song - FLOP. XI: Jamali - Secrets - DNQ Tried to make a comeback after my debut with this urban pop masterpiece. Predicted as a guaranteed top 5 but bizzarely didnt qualify, hopefuly it'll win the Rejects Contest. XII: Louise Carver - Impossible Love - 17th Thought this was fairly BJSC-friendly enough to enter but didnt expect to qualify at all with, especially after Jamali's flop, but was my first qualification and an unexpected success. :) XIII: Stealing Love Jones - Kicks - DNQ This was my 'having-a-little-fun' entry. Didnt expect to qualify as it was girly punk rock but I think it defined the roots of who Kathaldazia were extremely well and is my favourite of all my entries. XIV: Tasha Baxter - The Journey - DNQ  @ how this came last in the semis. It's one of THE BEST ballads I've EVER heard, I bet noone can even recall this song now which I think is why it did so badly - everyone ignored it and made no comment on it. You people's loss tbh =o XV: Jody - Wind It - 2nd First smash, woo. This was originally meant to be sent in XII but at the time couldnt find the mp3. Thankfuly Rich uploaded it for me and I'm so glad this did so well, urigh I was dying to host a contest at the time but this did put me on the map and people finally started taking notice of my entries after this. XVI: Nadine - Made Up My Mind - 23rd I and most expected this to go top 10, it bizarrely didnt and bizarrely go no votes from the Kelly Clarkson loons on Buzzjack and the song is manifestly identical to most of the stuff Kelly puts out so it getting so little votes was really beyond me tbh. XVII: Flash Republic - Twister This will so win and I'll finally get my chance to host a contest, y'all just watch n see :dancing:
June 15, 200916 yr BJSC XI [October 2008] ~~ Tarja - Die Alive [sF, 15th - 35pts] I think I remember a few people wanting this to get through, which in a way was a bit weird because it wasn't exactly BuzzJack friendly. Still, it was a great song and I was quite happy with the result considering it was heavy metal. LOL. BJSC XII [December 2008] ~~ Serebro - Dyshi [F, 23rd - 54pts] A risky one. It was in Russian. And it was from a Euroivison-formed Girl band/group. BUT I LIKED IT. :( Shame it didn't do better! BJSC XIV [March 2009] ~~ LaFee - Shut Up [sF, 16th - 46pts] Another heavy-esque track which kinda flopped. I really wanted this to get through because I wasn't exactly crazy about any of the other entries in XIV. :( BJSC XV [April 2009] ~~ Veronica Maggio - Stopp [sF, 14th - 64pts] I was quite AMAZED this didn't qualify.
