June 16, 200916 yr BJSC VI - Beverley Knight - Black Butta (Live) - 1st of 29 Probably my perfect entry, one of my favourite songs by my favourite artist showing her great live vocals. So it's win probably means more to me than it should. This kinda represents the end of an era, being the last non-spin-off contest without a semi final. I'm glad I signed up when I did as she would have never won a contest from VII or after but on the other hand it kinda sucks that it's in the 'forgotten era'. I don't think I'll ever beat this and I still can't believe a live Beverley Knight track could once win. BJSC VII - Estelle - No Substitute Love - 24th of 27 So I went from my all time BJSC high, to my all time BJSC low. (still, I guess 24th isn't bad for a low) Looking back, I'm rather amused by the idea of someone sending Estelle. She is probably my second favourite artist and this is my favourite non-"American Boy" song by her but I'd never send her again unless I had a guaranteed place in the final. Buzzjack just doesn't like her. It was fun hosting but when the votes weren't coming in I was a bit gutted. Add the fact that it charted a few weeks later and this wasn't a BJSC highlight for Quotosibb. (though it's my 2nd most played song on iTunes, in an all-Estelle top 3, so I've not gone off it) BJSC VIII - Sara Bareilles - Fairytale - 16th of 27 I'm not gonna lie, I was secretly thinking this could go top 10. I bought the Sara Bareilles album and this instantly stuck on me so I had to enter it. Then it flopped and only beat Estelle's total by four points. :( Eventually I've played it more than "Love Song" and I think it's my most under rated entry. Doesn't her voice just make you melt?! BJSC IX - Santogold - You'll Find A Way - 11th of 26 This is definitely where I began to change my way of picking my entries. After the stuff I properly loved flopped I figured my taste R&B/Soul and Pop wasn't good enough for BJSC and I should try to find something to appeal to the Pop and Indie voters if I was gonna do better. So I decided to check out a few Santogold tracks as "L.E.S. Artistes" was really good and it came between this and "Lights Out". I thought this was immensely catchy so decided to go for it, I was so pleased when it finished 11th. (despite being in a bitter tie with 10th) BJSC X - M.I.A. - Jimmy - 4th of 27 Carrying on my cross over tactic I, rather predictably, went for the artist Santogold is often compared to. A few people had considered it in the past, but I really love this (just try stopping yourself from doing a little dance to it) so I had to send it. Became only my second top 10, and beating my points record, which made me feel less of a one hit wonder. BJSC XI - Robyn - Dream On - 5th of 27 This was originally going to be "Konichiwa Bitches" or "Cobrastyle" (actually I lie, it was nearly Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair before that LOL) until Ben told me about "Dream On", which was on the American version of her album. As soon as I heard it I fell in love and thought I should go for it. I didn't even know about the release, I even uploaded my own video for this entry so it's not like the video was even out. Pleased with 5th, perhaps slightly bitter that a handful of people decided they loved it about a week after the contest. :heehee: BJSC XII - Little Boots - Stuck On Repeat - 11th of 27 What an UNJUST finish. :( I sent her a month too early since she finished 3rd the next month (with a song I rejected for this because I deemed it weaker) and became a near-guaranteed top 5 finish from then. It actually finished top 15, where I predicted, but it still sucks. I'm kinda glad I sent her before Buzzjack got fed up of her being sent, it wasn't 'cheap' of me to send an artist that finished 12th four contests ago. Now I've got the album, I still think this is my favourite song from her, it's hard to resist singing to. (and it's not exactly a conventional sing-a-long song) Her voice is really cute on this. BJSC XIII - A.R. Rahman & M.I.A. – O…Saya - 9th of 28 Probably my biggest risk that had to go through the semis. I shamelessly scooped this up from Mdice. I say that, but I don't think he was gonna use it and I had heard the track before it was being considered here. I just thought it was too good to miss out on being sent. I was surprised to finish in the top 10 with this considering it takes a while for M.I.A. to kick in and it was nearly butchered by the recap video in the semis. BJSC XIV - September – Can't Get Over - 2nd of 27 Oh dear, such a shameless entry. I do love it, it's just a shame I heard it for the first time so closs to the release date. I would have sent it, release or not. September is one of the few Scandi-Pop artists of this style that I really enjoy. In the end, it wasn't a huge hit in the charts and spent 5 weeks in the top 75, so it's not exactly "Jai Ho". This is still my second best result. Kinda makes me wonder why I try appealing to all bases when a future Scandi-Pop release can get you you best result since your debut. :heehee: BJSC XV - Video Villain – Paranoia - 12th of 29 Still can't believe how this ended up doing. After the big step-down of FSR Rontvia as host, I picked it up. So I got to auto-qualify and let's just say I was easily in the position to reclaim my 'worst performing host' badge until late in the votes. I got votes from 13 people and 4 of those were 12 pointers from late voters. I think it's safe to say this would have fallen out at the semis, even with a 12th place finish in the final. It was a bit love/hate and easily my biggest risk (despite having a free pass to the final) as they were almost completely unknown. (despite being a Boots-less Dead Disco) BJSC XVI - David Guetta & Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over (Electro Radio Edit) - 4th of 29 Even until recently I'd try to claim that this wasn't such a cheap entry because it was basically a remix and not the main one getting a release. But, yeah, it looks like it'll be #1 this week. I'm very pleased it's not a flop (like the majority of my 'release schedule' entries) but it's kinda embarrassing to have a #1 as a former entry. Just remember it was the ELECTRO EDIT guyz. :( BJSC XVII - Tegan & Sara – Back In Your Head - ??th of 29 Finally got around to sending it. Was initially gonna send to XIV, but heard Uh Huh Her and the Veronicas and decided to wait until the next contest, then I got a free pass to the next contest and took a risk, then I put it off last time. So I decided to finally bite the bullet and send it. (then I auto-qualified anyway ) I would have probably chosen something else had I known I'd get a free pass but OH WELL. Let's see how it does, maybe it was a sign that it'd fail to qualify? :o OMGOSH ESSAY!!!
June 16, 200916 yr BJSC 07 - Solange - Sandcastle Disco // 8th Amazing song and I was new to it all so I didn't really have any idea how it'd do at the time really. But I'm glad it done so well, one of my favourite entries I've sent and I think alot of people heard it and appreciated it where they wouldnt have done so otherwise so YAY for that! BJSC08 - Little Jackie - The World Should Revolve Around Me // 2nd My best result so far! I don't think I'll ever win so it'll probably end up always being my best result :heehee:. Still even though it was kind of cheap I adored it at the time and is such a happy feel good fun pop song! ^_^ BJSC09 - Danity Kane - Bad Girl // 22nd Aww I actually really liked this song and thought it would've done okay-ish! :( I guess it's a bit too R&B for Buzzjack though I guess looking back. Still even if some people heard it that wouldn't have that's enough for me! BJSC10 - VV Brown - Crying Blood // 7th Amazing song from one of my favourite new artists of the year! Admittedly I do actually prefer her other two singles but this is still great and I'm pleased it did as well as it did. BJSC11 - Jessica Mauboy - Running Back // 22nd My biggest disappointment in BJSC I think :/. I loved this song so much and thought it would appeal to many people in the contest but obviously not. Still it's a great mid-tempo BJSC12 - Jessica Malakouti - Trash Me // 10th I loved this even if the lyrics were cringey as! It was just a really good fun pop song and really catchy too! I'm glad some people discovered it because of BJSC too! BJSC13 - Jazmine Sullivan - Dream Big // DNQ I really thought this was a good entry! :( It's a really good RnB song and I thought it was very catchy with a big chorus too. I guess not though, also the start of my consecutive DNQ's. FUN TIMEZ. BJSC14 - Kesha - Backstabber // DNQ  WTF was I thinking with this? Yeah it's an okay song but it's nothing special at all really. BJSC15 - Paul Oakenfold ft. Brittany Murphy - Faster Kill Pussycat // DNQ I think I went for the cheap option and just wanted to qualify by this time. :( The songs good but so uninspired, last time I send an old random hit. BJSC16 - Paloma Faith - Stone Cold Sober // DNQ Looking back, it's weird to see this not qualify. Quite alot of people on BJ love it (well that I'm aware of) and it didn't even manage to qualify! Strange. Amazing song and even though it was a tiny bit cheap I think I just wanted to qualify! BJSC17 - Black Eyed Peas - Missing You // 22nd At least its qualified! It's by far one of my faves off of the new album and has a really big chorus which Fergie sounds amazing on. I'm hoping it'll do well but I'm expecting a mid table result I think. BJSC18 - Cobra Starship ft. Leighton Meester - Good Girls Go Bad // 4th My best result since 8th contest! :o Ten contests ago ... my biggest victory points wise too. Still absolutely love this song now, one of my fave songs of the year even. Just a really good pop song with really good production ... considered it for two contests as well but didn't think it would do so well. But yeah, I love it and I'm glad it done so well. Would've loved 3rd though seeing as I would've got to host :( :P BJSC19 - Kid Sister - Right Hand Hi // 22nd Annoyed it gave me my third 22nd! :( :P Was kind of different for me I think seeing as it was rap but I'm still glad alot of people liked it and discovered it through this contest. I'm kind of just glad it qualified I think. BJSC20 - Cassie Davis - Do It Again // ?? Really proud of it coz I found it all by my own! :P Well, I kind of did with Kid Sister too, but this was a find on youtube! Really catchy song and different for me ... sounds almost Paramore/Veronicas esque. Absolute killer chorus too, I'm optimistic and hoping it'll go Top 10! Edited August 29, 200915 yr by Jack
June 16, 200916 yr I wouldn't have said Little Jackie was all that cheap at the time! :o It had got at least some radio play before the contest. I remember hearing it on Radio 1 and not knowing what it was, then finding out because of the BJSC. But it wasn't that big a hit (unfortunately) so I wouldn't say it was that cheap.
June 16, 200916 yr XII - Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses 22/46 Testing the waters with an anticipated comeback single :o. Not really fussed about this result. XIII - OneRepublic - Sleep 42/44 My most dissapointing result. It's AMAZING. So epic, even on the first listen, which is one of the reasons why i chose it. I don't know what went wrong really, they're very well known, yet this song is pretty unknown. Was miffed when it did so badly. Probably my favourite entry yet. XIV - Passion Pit - Better Things 37/47 Probably their most accessible song on the Chunk Of Change EP. In hindsight this was never going to do well, but still didn't exceed expectations. XV - Tommy Sparks - She's Got Me Dancing 32/47 Never thought it would become a moderate hit in the UK. Catchy, possibly a bit dated. By the time of the semi final it was B Listed on Radio 1... XVI - Phoenix - 1901 34/51 When i first listened to this i remember thinking it was quite dull. I was obsessed with it for just a week, so was probably why i entered it. Spinoff #2 Sigur Rós - Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur 1/30 Can't believe this won :o. Tbh i'd be more pleased with OneRepublic coming 20th than this winning. It's probably my least favourite entry to date (although unlike most of them i'm not bored of it at all). I regard it as "cheap" because pretty much everyone who gave it points had already heard it beforehand, which is kind of defeating the point of the contest... XVII - Fever Ray - When I Grow Up ?? So glad this has qualified . I probably love Sleep more, but this has received the most plays out of all the entries. As long as it's not last i will be happy :o
June 16, 200916 yr I've decided I'm going to be unusually candid about my thoughts behind each contest. Nonsuch: VII: 09/41: Kylie Minogue - The One (Freemasons Remix) - 98 Having eyed up the contest for a little while I discovered this Freemasons Remix of my favourite track from Kylie's disappointing X album, well in advance of its subsequent commercial underperformance. A good, safe, but forward thing entry. VIII: 01/37 Lily Allen – Guess Who Batman - 131 The original demo bashing the then President of the United States. Having since heard Lily's much improved (from her debut) 2nd album. I remain convinced this is the best song she has ever written. Although I still prefer the demo, as it did not have the slightly ropey bridge that spoils the finished version. .... And the song I nearly entered finished third too. IX: 03/44 Cyndi Lauper - Into The Nightlife - 143 In retrospect this is the song I'm most proud of entering. Entering a 55 year old who was over two decades past her commercial peak with an electronic dance record that musically this genre has become the sound of 2009, is something I'm proud of. Too radical for Radio 2's playlist, too old for Radio 1's Disney infected playlist this song failed to reach the UK Top 75 despite promo on Loose Women, GMTV & the Graham Norton Show. X: 15/43 Duffy - Distant Dreamer - 83 I'll remember this contest for thinking, blast I wanted to enter PNAU ft Ladyhawke - Embrace but being beaten to it and bottling on entering Camille - Money Note. So ended up dithering until I sent my favourite song I heard in 2008 albeit from the biggest selling album of that year. I still can't believe this Bernard Butler co-penned & produced Scott Walker/David Bowie esque epic was never released as a single, especially as the hideous IMHO Rain On Your Parade was. Still shocked that rather derivative Brandy song won, and the brilliant Shontelle track failed to come top 10. XI: 02/43 Suzie McNeil - Lonely (Are You Coming Home?) 136 I remember searching through foreign charts on iTunes, when I got to the Canadian charts and saw "ooh the Heart meets P!nk soundalike singer who finished 4th in Rockstar: INXS", took a listen to the 30 second clip, found the video on youtube and thought bingo. Then when I found out this Canadian #2 hit had been written by the new judge on American Idol for Kelly Clarkson and she rejected it for her My December album, I thought even better. The second Nonsuch track after Cyndi to top my Personal Charts. I still can't believe Jamali - Secrets failed to reach the Final. XII: 19/46 Lisa Miskovsky - Still Alive - 70 Another strange contest. I was going to send Ladyhawke - My Delirium, but then the song only went and got major airplay on Radio 1 and became a minor Top 40 hit, so I ditched it for a song I heard in a Computer Game store that featured on a game console. A lovely atmospheric song, but I knew it was not going to go anywhere near the Top 10 as it was too atmospheric in a Coldplay/Keane/a-Ha sense to gain enough love. My third Nonsuch entry to top my Personal Chart. XIII: 7/44 Nerina Pallot – When Did I Become Such A B*tch? - 112 As a Christmas treat to her fans, Nerina leaked this track for a fortnight onto her myspace suggesting this demo was the likely first single from her still to be released third album (then working title: NP3 ). I thought this track was amazing and still think this song should have finished much higher than 7th due to its delightfully savage lyrics and very quirky tune and piano motif. Mind you I still could not believe Melanie Fiona - Give It To Me Right failed to make the Final. XIV: 13/47 Marina and the Diamonds - The Shampain Sleeper - 97 AKA: The cheap contest and the wounds are still there today. Especially as I think rules have failed to be put in place to stop New Release schedule mining being utilized. :manson: Hilariously I never gave any points to any of the songs that finished in the Top 10 although that was more because I genuinely did not like the songs that much. I was very happy with my selection ..... until she released the demo to the song that became my selection for BJSC XVI (mind you I nearly used the song Nerina wrote with Lightspeed Champion for Diana Vickers in XV), as it made me realise it as not Marina's best song. Still a decent result. XV: 25/51 Natasha Bedingfield - Again - 44 Originally I had selected Little Boots as I was going to send New In Town (Fred Fawke single edit remix that had leaked which I thought was amazing, so much better than the single version IMHO) but I got pm'd to be told that another nation had gone on about using her in their own national thread, so I did the decent thing and allowed Inner Massivia to use her. by then it was a case of oh bugger, as otherwise I would have tried to nab The Girl And The Robot (along with 6 other nations), and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were already selected. After dithering with going for some old song that was a hit in the USA & #1 in Australia in the mid 1990s, I decided to go with a ballad track from a soundtrack album. Big mistake. XVI: 06/51: Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not a Robot - 109 Kristinia DeBarge - Goodbye became the Ben Johnson of BJSC history. (I honestly think it would have won otherwise). I controversially as it turned out due to some not very nice comments made especially by Utopia regarding my use of an artist for the second time in 3 contests selected Marina with this wonderful song that subsequently topped my Personal Charts and then failed to get any playlisting by BBC Radio, and failed to reach the Top 200 or the iTunes Top 300. As a result of getting what I thought was totally undeserved flak I decided a change in philosophy towards the contest was required or else I quit the contest.... XVII: ???? Tinchy Stryder ft Amelle - Never Leave You After missing the artist nomination thread and seeing the artst I was going to send as part of a duet had already been selected, and my backup had also been nominated (but since the Benny Anderson Band bagged the Radio 2 Record of The Week I would have ruled out entering it). But one morning I was going into work early to get my haircut and they had the Radio on as always to Radio 1Extra and I heard this track get played for the first time, then I knew what I was going to enter. After the lack of stick David Guetta ft Kelly Rowland got, I was taken aback by the animosty to my entry. Especially as the download is not coming out until Aug 3rd; with the physical single not due now until Aug 17th, so it's release is two months away. Especially as Amelle is supposedly the Michelle Williams of the group and Tinchy Stryder's previous single topped the BJ hate chart. I predict a result in the 13th to 18th area. XVIII: ??????? At the moment I'm torn between a Norwegian act who topped the charts in New Zealand with a beautiful cover of a cult new wave song; a live version of a ballad sung by an Australian singer; and a 125 second quirky alternative song whose video was banned in the UK, and the song was banned by the BBC due to its lyrical content.
June 17, 200916 yr Are you STILL going on about that? I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU CONFIRMED TINCHY FFS! :manson: Edited June 17, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat
June 17, 200916 yr BJSC1: Britney Spears - And Then We Kiss // 104 pts. // 1st Place Ah, the first contest. I just sort of sent this because I loved it, and I had no idea it would win. I still love the song but LOL, it's something I would never enter nowadays. BJSC2: Clea - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off // 89 pts. // 7th Place Let's not talk about this. BJSC3: The Veronicas - Hook Me Up // 70 pts. // 7th Place Remains one of my favorite entries. First time the Veronicas were sent, bitches. I still prefer this to every song entered by them since tbh, though unfortunatley I've come to find it's one of their least popular. AH WELL. I love it. Looking back, I probably should have sent Untouched, but ah well. BJSC4: Wynter Gordn - Surveillance // 68 pts. // 7th Place I think this should've done better. :( It's an R&B stormer. It was probably a bit too early in the contest to send it, but still, a 7th place finish is alright for me. I've gotten a bit used to them. BJSC5: Utada - Exodus '04 (Double J Remix) // 25 pts. // 22nd Place This was tragic. :( My worst ever finish, though I'm thinking this current contest might rival that based on the odds I've been getting. It was a) the wrong time in the contest and B) just never going to do that well sadly. It's a japanese artist who, though singing in English, still has a distinctly foreign style. It may have fared a bit better in the next couple of contests, but I doubt I could ever break top 15 with it. BJSC6: Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek // 48 pts. // 16th Place I adore this song still. I'm not as fond of Imogen Heap as I was, but this is still unquestionably a beautiful song imo. That being said, it's not BJSC friendly at all. BJSC7: Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl // 188 pts. // 1st Place I really dislike Katy Perry. A lot. Her album sucked. But I was completely in love with this song when I first heard it, which was a good 2/3 weeks before everyone else did. In fact, I'd actually say that most of the people on BJ first heard it in BJSC, as I vividly remember halfway through the semis it started climbing the US iTunes charts. So I honestly had no idea it would be the hit that it was, especially considering its bicuriousness. Ultimately though, I knew I was going to win with this LOL. BJSC8 Away from home = no entry for me. ;o BJSC9: Shakira - Pure Intuition // 91 pts. // 13th Place This was an uninspired entry from me. I had just gotten home from pre-college after being gone for 6 weeks and had a ridiculously short amount of time to confirm a song, I really had no chance to search through new music and such. One of my least favorite entries / contests tbh. BJSC10: Brandy - Right Here (Departed) // 176 pts. // 1st Place One of my favorite wins. <3 I know that it was getting some hype on Buzzjack (the people who you'd expect to love it did), but I don't think many people expected an R&B song to win BJSC. I was surprised as well tbh, though a win definitely wasn't outside the real of possibilities considering the good odds I was getting. BJSC11: Isabel Guzman - Mysterious // 109 pts. // 7th Place The second time I had hosted! I had been debating this song for a while now, at least two or three contests. Finally got the chance to send it and was definitely pleased with the 7th place win. I wish I sent it earlier. It garnered a lot of low pointage from a good ammount of people, but hey, whatever works. BJSC12: Frankmusik - 3 Little Words // 183 pts. // 2nd Place I hate Frankmusik now too LOL. But to be fair, I still think this is a great song. I just really dislike nearly everything else he's done. I was definitely pleased with a 2nd place win, finally breaking my trend of 1st and 7th places which was nice. I had been considering an earlier version of this song for a while, but once the new video was released I knew it had to be my next entry. One of the best male placings too, WOO. BJSC13: Little Boots - Every Little Earthquake // 159 pts. // 3rd Place I told everyone this would do well. I told Aaron about it and how it'd do better than Stuck on Repeat; I told Tyron it'd do well when he reserved her. No one ended up using it. ;o So I just took matters into my own hands because it's a great song and I had been throwing around the idea of sending it for a while. And it got 3rd. :3 Yayz. I rag on her a lot now but I did really love her in 2008. I'd been into her since February 2008, so I figured it was about time I sent her. Obviously, the fact that she won Sound of 2009 during this time period was helpful to its placing as well. BJSC14: Lady Sovereign - So Human // 124 pts. // 7th Place This is an amazing song, but looking back, it was uninspired. I still don't think it was overtly cheap considering BJ hates Lady Sovereign / rap in general. 7th place of course, which I expected going in from the beginning (low top 10 ish). BJSC15: Royksopp ft. Robyn - The Girl and the Robot // 207 pts. // 1st Place Basically, I heard that Royksopp were doing a track with Robyn some time ago, and obviously I was intrigued and thought it could be a possible entry. I knew from the moment I heard a 20 second clip of this on a blog I subscribe to that I had to enter it. So I basically told everyone like 3 weeks in advance that I would be sending it LOL, not that you can reserve songs that far ahead but I don't think I've ever been so set on an entry before a contest. I would refuse to send anything else. And I'll be honest...I was fairly certain this was going to win. Shame that it won't be the huge hit it deserves to be though. BJSC16: VV Brown - Shark in the Water // 199 pts. // 1st Place THIS CONTEST FRUSTRATED ME SO MUCH. I think I had around four entries in mind that were all used by other people LOL. First, I was fairly dead set on entering Daniel by Bat for Lashes, as I had told a few people on MSN (I said if I won BJSC15 I'd enter her). Unfortunately Martin posted about her in his country thread before me and I would feel horrible as a host to reserve her knowing that. Then I was considering La Roux, but thought I wanted to send Firefox AK for a day, unreserved her, and then realized I still wanted to enter her the next day LOL. Go me. Then I wanted to send Florence and the Machine - Rabbit Heart which Jake sent to me via MSN, but then after posting about it he told me that he wanted to make a return to the contest so I let him use it. So I was entryless two days before the contest. Then I found Shark in the Water. Maybe things happen for a reason? Btw, Liam made hosting the most ridiculously annoying thing...ever. BJSC17: Firefox AK - Once I Was Like You Who knows how this'll do, but I'm getting vibes that this'll be my worst contest since Utada. ;o Great, great track that just isn't all that commercial or catchy unfortunately.
June 18, 200916 yr I think we should make the word Liam censored in the BJSC forum  Joking obviously, that would be stupid, but 7 Top 10's in a row is amazing :o Oh, and I wouldn't have heard Never Leave You for another 3/4 days if I hadn't looked at it, after Nonsuch said they were sending it, which received an immediate buzz.
June 18, 200916 yr despite Ben's reservations, I'm almost certain that Firefox AK will make it 8 top tens in a row :o
You should definitely call it a BJSC discover :kink:
June 18, 200916 yr BJSC12: Frankmusik - 3 Little Words // 183 pts. One of the best male wins too, WOO. Must say, even if you hate him, I am eternally grateful for what i believe is your best EVER entry and for introducing me to what is now one of my favorite artists. Everything he touches turns to gold from where I sit. Best male win?
June 19, 200916 yr BJSC07 | Maroon 5 & Rihanna - If I Never See Your Face Again [11th, 76pts (Semi 1: 2nd, 98pts)] In my opinion, this is most certainly my cheapest entry. I really liked the song (and still LOVE it) and thought it would be great to launch my BJSC career. Which it was, gaining me my higest finish of 11th in all my contests. BJSC09 | The Script - Fall For Anything [24th, 42pts (Semi 2: 7th, 59pts)] I first found this as the B-Side to We Cry. I absoloutely loved it and wonder why it wasn't a single :o Then they stuck it on the album and i suddenly felt like i was being cheap...even though i wasn't  BJSC10 | CSS - Jager Yoga [DNQ (Semi 1: 14th, 45pts)] I was trying to reach out to the alternative fans because i LOVED left behind. Don't think much of this song now though...then again, i didn't think much of it then. BJSC11 | Metro Station - Shake It [DNQ (Semi 1: 14th, 55pts)] Discovered this through looking at the Australian iTunes song. I loved this. Made #12 in my chart purely off the base of BJSC (Has never happened before). Eventually went #1 when released in the UK this year. I don't think it was cheap because not that many people had heard it...but then again...not many people liked it clearly  BJSC12 | Feeder - Sweet 16 [27th, 35pts (Semi 1: 13th, 50pts)] My beloved Feeder had to be entered eventually. What a perfect song to enter...their best material imo and i was currently obsessing over Gran Turismo 1 and recently bout the Swim EP. :) Obviously not happy with it not coming first tbhz. but i suppose qualifying was an achievement. :cheer: BJSC14 | Remi Nicole - Rock 'N' Roll [DNQ (Semi 1: 15th, 56pts)] Was listening to her album when i saw a couple of song which i thought would be huge in the BJSC. I tipped Remi as the far better alternative to VV Brown...Leave ended up qualifying and this ended up unfortunately missing the cut. :( Many tipped this to do well...but the hype just wasn't met. BJSC17 | Ash - Return Of White Rabbit [QUALIFIED (Semi 1: TBA)] Wasn't tipped to do anything. In fact, only one person in the odds even predicted it to qualify. Was surprised it qualified and am relatively pleased with its odd's. I'm just praying for a second Top 20 finish. Fantastic single by Ash this is. BJSC#10sSPINOFF | Muse - Knights Of Cydonia [18th, 50pts] One of the best songs ever. Actually...three of the best songs ever were #10s  Fill My Little World and my beloved Feeder were already taken so i settled for Knights Of Cydonia. Fantastic song and i'm glad i chose to enter it as it done better than the 2 previously mentioned.
June 20, 200916 yr BJSC VI - Elle Stevenson - Down - 17th place / 41 points The artist formerly known as Laura. A huge national final was put on to show what Herzebania could do, with 4 previously unheard of artists. The other 3 were just filler though to be honest; I wouldn't have dreamt of sending easy-listening jazz, although I'm still toying with novelty techno act Diggy and Cussons. I have to say I was a little disappointed with how this did, but at least it wasn't in the bottom ten. Thought it was a grower, but in the preliminary voting for the Best of contest, it did even worse. BJSC VII - Jeanette - Hold The Line - 10th place / 83 points (SF1 12th place / 61 pts) My first top ten entry was a last minute change from "Right Now," a song of Jeanette's a prefer but would have been a fool to send. This only just scraped a qualification and I was amazed to see finish in the top ten! OK so it's been all but forgotten since then but I was overjoyed and very pleasantly surprised! BJSC VIII - Carola - Pride (In The Name Of Love) - DNQ (SF2 14th place / 49 pts) I have no idea why, but I thought this would do really well. Looking back, it was a crazy idea, and I think I probably realised this, because I invented a whole media story to try and draw attention to this entry and build it up, but it was a hopeless cause. Still I'm quite proud of the whole story that I'd fabricated! BJSC IX - Helena Paparizou - Teardrops - 8th place / 107 pts (SF2 2nd place / 105 pts) This came from the thorough selection method that I'm most proud of, and may use again at some point, "Herzfest." I unveiled 3 songs by one artists each day, asking for feedback on all of them until they were gradually narrowed down. The result was Helena's second entry to the contest, which did better than Gigolo, her first entry which only came 10th, not 4th. :P I have to say I was a tad disappointed, especially since this had been built up to be among the 3 favourites along with Pink and Margaret Berger, and started off the voting in a solid 2nd place, only to very badly slip down in the latter half of the voting process. Still it was my best result to date so I was happy. BJSC X - Gigi D'Alesio - Non Mollare Mai - DNQ (SF1 16th place - 46 pts) Oh this was fun! This was alot of fun. I'd got a good result in the previous contest, so I thought I'd experiment a little in this one by entering not the most contemporary song, in Italian, sung by a man - in other words the complete opposite of a song that usually does well in the contest - and seeing just how well it could do. I absolutely adored this song, which helped push it. My aim was to qualify, and everybody said it would be a hopeless cause and I would be lucky to get 20-30 points. It didn't qualify, but after a very carefully planned promo tour, it got 46 points in its semi, only 5 points off qualification. The main thing I was very proud of was that it got low points from a total of 11 countries, which is more than alot of qualifying countries got. It also came 4th in the best of the Rejects competition, so even though this didn't qualify, it's probably among my fondest memories from my entries. BJSC XI - Tori Amos - Silent All These Years - 20th place / 70 points (SF1 12th place / 59 pts) The winner of the first and only game of boot and immune to choose a BJSC entry. I even had it in the pop forum to get the opinions of some non-contestants. I was hoping this one would win all along, as I was intrigued to see how it would do having missed out a couple of months previously. It got a couple of very fond reviews which translated into 12s (including the very first set of votes from Kylienips which was frustrating!), but elsewhere it failed to score. I still love the song, but I always did worry it would get a score similar to Laura Stevenson. BJSC XII - Monica - My Grown Up Christmas List - DNQ (SF2 22nd place / 19 pts) My attempt to inject some Christmas spirit into the contest backfired incredibly! I considered entering the Kelly Clarkson version of this, but thanks to the recent RnB slant the contest had taken, I switched at the last minute. Not that it would have made much of a different! I failed to tug at the heartstrings with my home made video for this, and got my worse result to date (at that point...). Maybe this could have done a bit better had the contest been a week later...slightly. BJSC XIII - Agnes - Release Me - 1st place / 199 points (SF1 1st place / 116 pts) This was the one!! I said at the start of 2009 that Herzebania would be stepping it up a gear, so I started with this. Looks like I got the last laugh after On and On was cruelly snapped up by Angelicland a couple of contests previously. I knew that this would do well, but I didn't think it genuinely stood a chance until I unveiled it and started hearing phrases like "inevitable Herzebanian victory." Even at that, I really thought that Lights had it in the bag until the actual voting. Very proud to have briefly held the highest points record, even if it's not really considered to be one of the best BJSC entries, and now that it's been a hit, I can't see it having much impact at the next Best of contest. BJSC XIV - Amanda Jenssen - Amarula Tree - 15th place / 93 points Continuing with the Swedish theme, this was meant to be another big hitter, but didn't quite manage it. Indeed it looked briefly during the voting like Herzebania's second top five finish, but slipped down badly. Although since I was hosting this contest, I wasn't that bothered, and indeed I lost sight of my own entry completely when the activity at the top of the board became extremely interesting! Despite the "cheap" debate reaching boiling point I enjoyed hosting this contest, and I consider Amarula Tree my last proper BJSC entry. BJSC XVI - Martina - Idi Leda Mi Okreni - DNQ (SF2 23rd place / 1 point) I didn't have much time for the contest, so I entered something requiring minimal effort. My highest points record had been overtaken by Mdice, so instead of attempting the near impossible feat of topping it again I figured I'd try something different and see if it was possible to break the lowest points record. This terrible song was entered after the national finals rule had been abolished, and could have been a nul pointer had it not been for Pavel's soft spot for it. I had very little to do with this contest, and lo and behold the record was accomplished. This seemed to offend some people and had all the pro-national finals contestants throwing their toys out of the pram...oh well...this is a fun contest after all...apparently. I disagree, I think it's THE best BJSC entry bar none, and you'll be forgiven in the Best Of I think for the fact that you, me or anybody else had absolutely no idea that this could ever be a UK hit!!! also, I either really liked or absolutely loved all of your entries (even Carola - 8 points in the semi I think :kink:) apart from the god awful Monica and Martina, the former I don't think would have done any better any closer to christmas either, on account of it sounding quite dated...I did really like your home made video though! Why did Laura Stevenson change her name to Elle?

Not all of them, I suspected you were taking the mick (on account of the song being terrible) but thought it was a rather interesting experiment actually :o
