June 21, 200916 yr Soon it be like the Billboard hot 100 and include airplay. :puke2: I was just going to say the same thing myself but stuff that sells really well via download channel still does ok on the overall charts so its not bad . I think we have 40/60 ratio sales to airplay over here. While I don't completely agree with the formula , it still is a way that music companies track success of their songs
July 8, 200915 yr They are always looking into new things to include in the singles chart but I wonder how many people don't bother with singles because of albums. There are a lot of acts who have good singles but people purchase the album so the single charts poorly but the album does well. You also see albums shoot back up the chart when a new single is out but again this has no affect on the singles chart so maybe some sort of album data should be included first before they include streaming data. July 9, 200915 yr the OCC is well aware that the digital era as we know it is to become an obsolete concept soon. we, the buying public, may not foresee this yet because the market has caught up on downloads only recently. but it is apparent now that formats have a shorter life cycle than before. like the report says, it's gonna take a while, years surely, but the growth of digital downloads is not only bound to reach a plateau, it will inevitably get in reverse mode. so, yeah, when that happens streaming is gonna be more than just an option Edited July 9, 200915 yr by Twisted Tender
July 9, 200915 yr Goodbye to physical singles, last week was a prime example of HMV's physical sales not added, where else can you buy them, you will have hard time to find a physical single, the chart will be based on downloads 100% soon. It had to happen sometime, we are in the digital age. Physical Single RIP  yup, physicals are basically non-existent in the states, they include digital sales, streaming and airplay in their hot 100
July 9, 200915 yr I like the idea of a separate streaming chart as people have said but I don't like the idea of including streaming in the chart. It's not as if the chart needs any sort of boost atm and streaming is free and not equivalent to a sale in any way. Still, I think it's good that the OCC are always looking at new ways to improve the chart. As long as airplay stays the f*** away :heehee:

Music downloaded for games such as Rock Band, Guitar Hero and SingStar could feature in the UK charts before the year is out. Games industry magazine MCV reports that the Official Charts Company wants to see sales of music via these interactive games count towards the download and official singles charts, provided a deal can be made between publishers and format holders. “We have been in discussion with record labels and the various games companies that host games which allow users to download master recording versions of artist tracks. In theory they could be eligible to be combined with downloads of the same tracks that take place from the wide range of digital retailing services that currently make up our chart panel,” OCC chart director Omar Maskatiya tells MCV. MCV says that globally around 40m tracks have been downloaded by Guitar Hero fans; while more than 30m are thought to have been downloaded on Rock Band. Maskatiya adds to MCV, “Our brief is to ensure that the charts are the most accurate barometer of the best-selling tracks or singles in the UK. And the information we have to date suggests that the incredibly successful Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises can generate significant volume of master recording downloads that we would like to capture within our weekly survey. “We are at various stages of discussion in terms of capturing these additional downloads so we are not talking about inclusion from next week, but it is certainly high on our agenda to follow through between now and the end of this year.” Source : Music Week
July 9, 200915 yr While that sounds like a decent idea, it just means we'll see a lot of old rock tracks hogging up the chart.
July 9, 200915 yr Great idea. That benefits my favourite track Young by Hollywood Undead. It's available in Rock Band 2. :heehee: While that sounds like a decent idea, it just means we'll see a lot of old rock tracks hogging up the chart. It will not be much. Don't worry. I doubt half of GH/RB users buy d/l-able tracks.
August 17, 201014 yr If streaming starts to count towards the charts does that mean bands and labels not allowing their music to be streamed might have to consider letting their music to be streamed, new arcade fire album comes to mind. Also you can stream a song 100 times a week so I'm guessing that would have to count as one
August 17, 201014 yr Old thread  I actually use We7 all the time, and use it to scrobble to my LastFm :o

August 17, 201014 yr Adding streaming music to the charts wouldnt be a good idea imo- it would just mean that songs hang around longer, and tbh I like that the charts are going far quicker this year oh and Guitar Hero songs would actually be good to see rock classics peaking again, some didnt even chart the first time- but it would get tiresome if they clogged up the charts oh and airplay should stay WELL AWAY from the charts
August 17, 201014 yr Y'all got the wrong end of the stick regarding Guitar Hero/Rock Band downloads. The vast majority of tracks offered as DLC for those games are new releases or stuff a little too obscure or an acquired taste to take up space on the main disc. Stuff like Livin' On A Prayer, Sweet Child O'Mine and all those old classics will almost always be included on the disc and so wouldn't count towards the charts. However, it could prove very helpful for new rock/metal bands who don't make as big of an impact on the charts as they could if these downloads were included. I know that Metallica and Guns N' Roses latest albums were both released on Rock Band/Guitar Hero, although they went to No. 1 and No. 2 on the album charts anyway even without that. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine could certainly see the benefits though.
August 17, 201014 yr The thing is, if the charts included online streaming, songs like Boom Boom Pow and Poker Face would probably still be in the chart. It might get a bit boring, even though one could argue it'd make the charts more accurate. However, I hope it stays the way it is. The methodology of our charts is quite good in my opinion, and not much needs to be tampered with.
August 17, 201014 yr Old thread  I actually use We7 all the time, and use it to scrobble to my LastFm :o It maybe old but its a bit relevant at the moment, it ties in with the other thread "slaps head"
August 17, 201014 yr 1 play won't equal 1 point for the chart. It'll me in millions of plays I should think. Or maybe that's a bit ambitious more like 10,000 plays = 1 point.

It might get a bit boring, even though one could argue it'd make the charts more accurate. I don't think that's quite true.
