Mariah Carey / I'll Be Lovin You Long Time' - HOW THE FUCK do you get your biggest airplay hit ever (or one of) and miss Top 75? Only MUMU could succeed in such an achievement LOL.

 

M.I.A. / Jimmy - This was so popular amongst forumers/casual fans and Radio 1 had it playlisted... that I thought it'd at least get to like #32 or so. In the end it settled for #66

 

Alesha / Knockdown - I know she didn't really stand much of a chance after Lipstick only made #14, but I honestly thought this would do similar to Jimmy... at least MAKING the top 40... but I guess it wasn't too far off (#45).

SOLANGE / SANDCASTLE DISCO - wtf... just... baffling. I know Radio 1 didn't jump on board but it DID have promotion and it is a BRILLIANT song.... video play was fairly big too. I believe it didn't even make top 100? or even close...

Feeder- "Tracing Lines" (2008)- missed top 75 (download only single)

 

Everyone I've mentioned this to in a general music releated conversation, even if the band are not their cup of tea were like me confused why radio 1 suddenly shunned against the band. Since 1997 every single release was listed with frequent A-listings from 2001-Jan 2005, you would think they'd do the same for "We Are the People" but suddenly ignored it and the rest of the album cos they did not like that track when offered it to play. This meant the single charted at #25 and meant it was doomed for the start for this single. The label knew they'd lose money if they went ahead with the physical release, so made it download only. As Feeder are not very popular in the single-track downloads market it was doomed even more before it's release. I last spoke to frontman Grant in Scarborough about the albums sales, and said to me "Even before it was released the writing was on the wall, we really did not have a label anymore but I'm really proud of it". Btw, in case you're wondering, the random girls playing the keyboard are the make-up artists!.

 

 

 

Foo Fighters- Next Year (2000)- 42-OUT

 

What with an amazing video that breaks boundaries and the fact Dave Grohl is a legend, you'd really think even MTV would have to play this and not just your MTV 2's etc. Maybe it was because the band were not fully established in the UK at the time, and so did not just play the songs cos it was by The Foo Fighters and of their worldwide reputation, so went by what they thought of the songs instead. Maybe cos this one was more of a laid-back rock ballad in comparison to "Learn To Fly", "Breakout" and "Generator" which were the first three singles?. Whatever the reason it was a waste not to play it and see it flop like this :(.

Well, it seems I am older but Freeway of Love by Aretha Franklin and The Doctor by the Doobie Brothers (in the late 80's) always stick in my mind for this.

 

Also. There's a Brand New World by Five Star should have been a hit. It was strange that their hits faded as their music improved.

After the top 10 success of their 1996 debut "This World and Body", the band followed this up two years later with second album "Remote". However, the band failed to sustain their success and this criminally flopped :(.

Countless singles, loads of which I have on CD.

 

The most gutting was this one, because all week it was Top 40 in the midweeks, then on a very, very cold and snowy Sunday 27th Feb 2005 it charted at #48. :(

Will never forget that one.

 

LOVE that band. Am unsure of what's happening to them now as Echo are no longer a record label.
