Oh right.

I thought you were applying that statement to your personal chart history. My bad. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

If your counting acts that are completely one genders (so I can't count Young Soul Rebels, Paramore, B.o.B Ft. Hayley Williams or Alexandra Burke Ft. Flo Rida), it is surprisingly males that come out on top with four :o

Timmy Trendy Ft. Gok Wan :kink:

Joe McElderry

The Killers

Placebo

Longest for females is three, for which I have a couple of examples.

My first ever number one was sung by a female, after that it would be exactly a year before another song featuring a female on vocals would be number one.

2 18/01/2004 Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out (2 weeks)

3 01/02/2004 Lost Prophets - Last Train Home (2 weeks)

-- 15/02/2004 Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out (1 week, 3 total)

4 22/02/2004 Keane - Somewhere Only We Know (2 weeks)

5 07/03/2004 Blink-182 - I Miss You (1 week)

6 14/03/2004 Jet Look What You’ve Done (3 weeks)

7 04/04/2004 Basement Jaxx - Plug It In (2 weeks)

8 18/04/2004 Wolfman ft Pete Doherty - For Lovers (2 weeks)

9 02/05/2004 Streets - Fit But You Know It (4 weeks)

10 30/05/2004 Killers - Mr Brightside (7 weeks)

11 18/07/2004 Snow Patrol - Spitting Games (1 week)

12 25/07/2004 Ash - Starcrossed (3 weeks)

19 05/12/2004 Babyshambles - Killamangiro (2 weeks)

20 19/12/2004 Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (3 weeks)

----

Only twice have I had three consecutive number ones sung by a female, both last year.

122 12/04/2009 Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Zero' (1 week)

123 19/04/2009 Bat For Lashes 'Daniel' (2 weeks)

Longest Male (as the leading artist) Row at no.1 (mixed groups [male & female] count as male):

From 4/1/10 to 8/11/10 every number one had a male in the leading artist. Artists in the row included Joe McElderry, Iyaz, Helping Haiti, Jason Derulo, Tinie Tempah, Usher, Professor Green, Roll Deep, Jason Derulo (a second time), Dizzee Rascal, David Guetta, Tinie Tempah (a second time), K'naan, Eminem, Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup, B.o.B, Eminem (a second time), Caspa, Cee-Lo Green, will.i.am, Tinie Tempah (a third time), Duck Sauce and The Black Eyed Peas.

Thanks a lot Willow Smith for your non-number one ruining the row of 44 weeks! Willow Smith is the only female number one I've ever had on my chart (well Rihanna was very close but David Guetta put his name to it!)

All of my #1s in 2005 were by a female lead! The only male involvement was as a featured artist (Petey Pablo on Ciara's Goodies & Busta Rhymes on PCD's Don't Cha).

Then my first #1 of 2006 happened to be my first male only #1 - Shayne Ward.

Edited by Aidan

I always knew Rihanna was hiding something.

I didn't count featured vocals, well then it's the secquence of three on the other side of it then :D

  • 7 years later...

Not quite the same as this topic but 8 out of the Top 10 feature female led vocals on my personal chart this week, that's the highest it has ever been (I think!)

Yaeji, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lily Allen, Rapsody, Kimbra, Kelela, Superorganism (Orono "OJ" Noguchi) and Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer Andersson).

I guess this highlights how male dominated my chart usually is..

Edited by Doctor Blind

If just taking the lead act into account 2017 had a 42-week long run of male #1s (well I know Clean Bandit are mixed but more males to females), although only six of those weeks had no female contribution at all.

02 120 137 Aly & Fila meets Roger Shah and Susana ~ Unbreakable (20/01/17 - 10/02/17) 4 weeks

03 121 138 Gareth Emery and Standerwick ~ Saving Light [feat. HALIENE](17/02/17 - 17/03/17) 5 weeks *

04 122 139 Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson ~ Symphony (24/03/17 - 02/06/17) 11 weeks *

05 123 140 Calvin Harris ~ Rollin [feat. Future and Khalid] (09/06/17) 1 week

06 124 141 TheFatRat ~ Fly Away [feat. Anjulie] (16/06/17) 1 week

07 125 142 Jax Jones ~ Instruction [feat. Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don] (23/06/17 - 30/06/17) 2 weeks *

08 126 143 Calvin Harris ~ Feels [feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean) (07/07/17 - 11/08/17) 6 weeks

09 127 144 Avicii ~ Without You [feat. Sandro Cavazza] (18/08/17 - 15/09/17) 5 weeks *

10 128 145 Avicii ~ Lonely Together [feat. Rita Ora] (22/09/17 - 03/11/17) 7 weeks

The longest run of male #1s with no females is 23 weeks in 2013-4

13 85 Tiesto, Mark Alston, Baggi Begovic & Jason Taylor feat. Teddy Geiger "Love And Run" (2/9/13 - 9/9/13) 2 weeks

** ** Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc "Wake Me Up" (16/9/13) 1 week (8 n/c weeks)

14 86 Avicii "You Make Me" (23/9/13 - 30/9/13) 2 weeks

15 87 Martin Garrix "Animals" (7/10/13) 1 week

16 88 Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo "Boneless" (14/10/13 - 4/11/13) 4 weeks

17 89 Storm Queen "Look Right Through (MK Vocal Mix)" (11/11/13) 1 week

** ** Martin Garrix "Animals" (18/11/13) 1 week (2 n/c weeks)

18 90 Avicii "Hey Brother" (25/11/13 - 16/12/13) 4 weeks

19 91 Arty, Matisse & Sadko "RIOT" (23/12/13) 1 week *

** ** Avicii "Hey Brother" (30/12/13 - 13/1/14) 3 week (7 n/c weeks)

01 075 092 Fuse ODG ~ Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad) (19/1/14 - 27/1/14) 2 weeks

02 076 093 Chris Malinchak ~ If U Got It (3/2/14) 1 week

And the longest of females with no males is... 8 weeks, done in 2011. Yeah there's an obvious male bias in my chart largely down to EDM being super male dominated.

01 28 Rihanna - S&M (7/2/11 - 14/2/11) 2 weeks

02 29 Lady GaGa - Born This Way (21/2/11) 1 week

** Rihanna - S&M (28/2/11) 5 weeks (7 n/c weeks)

Most of my #1s from last year have been male but there are some exceptions!

Sia - Never Give Up

Alessia Cara - Seventeen

Sabrina Carpenter - Thumbs

Elina Born - In Or Out

Sophie Francis - Without You

Kah-Lo - Fasta (ft. Riton)

Although all bar Kah-Lo were #1 in the first 4 months of the year...

Also MOWE are a male/female duo who've had 3 #1s over the past year (2 of which feature a female so technically more female than male)

  • 2 weeks later...

A 13-week long male-dominated #1 bookended by Camila & Rita
