Posted September 7, 200916 yr Pixie Lott is looking on course to make history this coming Sunday with the biggest climb yet to the top of the UK singles chart. Her second Mercury single Boys & Girls, which debuted at number 73 last week, is presently the week’s biggest-selling single with a lead of more than 5,000 sales over its closest rival, Positiva/Virgin’s Sexy Chick by David Guetta featuring Akon. The biggest climb to number one up to this point was achieved last year by Pink’s So What when it moved 38-1. The Roc Nation/Atlantic-issued Run This Town by Jay-Z featuring Rihanna and Kanye West, which debuted at number one last Sunday, is the week’s third top seller so far, according to retail reports, just ahead of the newly-issued We Are Golden by Casablanca/Island’s Mika. The Mika single is one of three new entries at present filling the Top 10 positions. The others are Left My Heart In Tokyo by Geffen-signed Mini Viva and Uprising by Warner Bros’s Muse. Mercury’s U2, whose last single Magnificent failed to make the Top 40, are heading for a better result this time with the follow-up I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight likely to debut in or around the Top 20. It should be joined in the Top 40 by Love Comes, the comeback single by Bananarama who are now signed to Polydor label Fascination. After helping to revive Kings Of Leon’s Sex On Fire last week when a contestant performed the song, X Factor is now doing the same for Columbia artist Jennifer Hudson’s version of the Dreamgirls number And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going. Performed by contestant Jade Fubara, it last week sat at 135 on the chart but is now poised for the Top 40. Ahead of the release on Wednesday of The Beatles’ remasters, the albums market is currently led by two brand new albums: Virgin artist Jamie T’s Kings & Queens and Wichita-signed The Cribs’ Ignore The Ignorant. Albums by Decca’s Vera Lynn, Domino’s Arctic Monkeys and Positiva/Virgin’s David Guetta complete the top five sellers so far this week. A number of new albums are on course to make Top 40 debuts this coming weekend, including titles by Xtra Mile’s Frank Turner, Beverley Knight on her own Hurricane label, Ruby Works-signed Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Kicthenware’s Prefab Sprout and Eleven Seven’s Jet through EMI. September 7, 200916 yr Author The Beatles albums Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band look set to make a return to the Top 10 this Sunday after being re-issued yesterday alongside the rest of the Fab Four’s original catalogue. Based on only one day’s sales, the two EMI-released albums are presently the seventh and eighth biggest-selling artist albums of the week and are joined by three other Beatles titles among the top 20 sellers of the week so far. Perhaps the most remarkable sales performance is that of The Beatles (Stereo Box Set) comprising all the remastered albums which, despite coming with a retail price of around £170, is now the week’s 13th top seller and shifted nearly 6,000 units yesterday. It is a few hundred sales ahead of the band’s Rubber Soul album and just behind Revolver. Ten other remastered Beatles albums are currently registered among the week’s Top 75 sellers, including the 1968 The Beatles set (aka “The White Album”) at 28 and The Past Masters double album rounding up all their non-album singles and EP tracks at 39. The Beatles In Mono boxed set is presently placed in 45th position, outselling a number of the individual remastered albums, despite its price. A Beatles album not part of the remastered programme that rolled out on Wednesday alongside The Beatles: Rock Band video game is also figuring in the Fab Four’s chart return. Their 2000 retrospective 1 that combines all their UK and US number one singles is the week’s 55th top seller so far with its sales more than 100% up on last week.
