Yet again absolutely fascinating, some of the top 20 really surprised me, Kool & the Gang being in the top 20 and Queen not being in the top 10 were the two big surprises. Sad to see Cher didn’t make the top 100, thought perhaps Turn back time, I found someone, Dead ringer for love and Jesse James might have sold enough to get her in there. Her 90s story should be a little different though! 😍 Glad however to see Diana Ross made it into the top 20 (and again a little surprised), guessing the sheer volume of releases helped her!?

OK, this is one of the most lovely replies I've had one here! 🥰 I think it is that "shared" quality you described with radio and TV charts that we have lost, which means the general public is less interested as a whole. I also think streaming has diluted the value of big hits, the million sellers especially. A million selling single used to be a real achievement, and it took 60 years, all the way from the 50's to 2010 to get 100 million selling singles (Rihanna & Eminem Love the way you lie became the 100th million selling single). However by 2017 thanks to streaming the amount had tripled and there were 311, Goodness knows how many there are now. Then you have Harry Styles #26 tracks which are on "1.2 million sales" while something like Tragedy by Steps which was a #1 also on the same sales of 1.2 million., there are some album tracks never released as singles that are "platinum sellers" because of streaming... it just makes a mockery of it all. Recently I have been the most surprised by Madonna's album performance, I was very much expecting something along the lines of 1-37-OUT but so far it has achieved 1-9-14, which is amazing!!

I agree that my initial direct comment was uncalled for giving our past, which is why, on reflection, I apologised for it, and that apology still stands, sorry. My more recent comment was simply because dandy* said that Jason was entering counter arguments at a tangent which was quite unfair really as he was actually making a valid and fair point (which clearly wasn't understood), I was simply saying that if that was to be highlighted then your initial comment should be too. Not having a go at all (again I do apologise if it comes across that way ❤️) just stating a fact. The rest has really just been a fair and interesting discussion, you actually sparked a good debate. ☺️ I also want to say, I do agree with you Janet Jackson was a big artist for sure, I personally don't think anyone was saying she wasn't successful, just that they didn't think she was on the same level as certain other acts mentioned. That was my take on it (I may have read that wrong of course).

I'm searching an updated (or most updated) sales stats of The Saturdays. I'm sure there used to be a thread on here but that may have gone with the Sats forum closed perhaps? Anyone who has them and can share, it would certainly be appreciated. ❤️

I think that TOTP and all the other chart shows going was a big part in the lack of public consciousness and care for the #1 single. I also think less people listen to the radio now streaming is so big (I could be completely wrong on that aspect) as people choose playlists over radio play. Either way, I follow the chart out of habit now but I really have little to no interest in it now. I find the albums chart a tiny bit more interesting thanks to older acts playing the formats game and achieving success.
