December 21, 20187 yr Afternoon all! :D As always, NO SPOILERS PLEASE! NO positions are to be posted until Radio 1 has announced them.
December 21, 20187 yr Aah, 20 years since the last Spice Girls number one at Christmas. That chart is here in full on Mixcloud if you want some festive listening later: https://www.mixcloud.com/1869300/uk-top-40-...-december-1998/ I still can't quite believe that Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan did the Kylie and Jason parody. I know it was for Children In Need but it was totally bizarre. Strange to think though that Jane McDonald (who was new at #10) has actually had a resurgence in popularity this year!
December 21, 20187 yr Those 2003 and 1998 charts are absolute classics. I particularly have fond memories of listening to the 1998 one.
December 21, 20187 yr Ten years since Hallelujah! The Jeff Buckley version goes on my Christmas playlist every year, it's beautiful. The Alexandra Burke version, not so much. The Darkness have held up rather well over the past 15 years too, and of course five years since Leona Lewis became the Queen of Christmas! Her to out-do last year's #19 position tonight please. Amazing how Chef was so close to beating Spice Girls that week, what a chart upset that would've been! (and of course he did overtake the following week)
December 21, 20187 yr Those are some real battles for xmas number 1 hopefully this year keeps the tradition
December 21, 20187 yr I can see LadBaby just about taking it with his last minute push, I bet it'll be real close though. If anyone has a list of closest races that'd be interesting to see (and this year's could very well be high on that list)
December 21, 20187 yr Retro faves! 2017: 3- LAST CHRISTMAS- Wham! (62,481) 4- ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU- Mariah Carey (35,414) 5- ANYWHERE- Rita Ora (31,668) 7- FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK- The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl (29,446) 2013: 2- HAPPY- Pharrell Williams (63,858) 3- ONE MORE SLEEP- Leona Lewis (44,642) 4- HIGHWAY TO HELL- AC/DC (43,093) 5- HEY BROTHER- Avicii (42,010) 7- HOW LONG WILL I LOVE YOU- Ellie Goulding (35,248) 8- TRUMPETS- Jason Derulo (29,504) 9- MONSTER- Eminem Ft Rihanna (25,711) 10- STORY OF MY LIFE- One Direction (24,376) 2008: 2- HALLELUJAH- Jeff Buckley (80,883) 3- RUN- Leona Lewis (72,417) 4- IF I WERE A BOY- Beyonce (47,092) 6- BROKEN STRINGS- James Morrison Ft Nelly Furtado (36,021) 7- USE SOMEBODY- Kings Of Leon (29,821) 2003: 1- MAD WORLD- Michael Andrews Ft Gary Jules (227,547) 6- LEAVE RIGHT NOW- Will Young (66,000) 8- LADIES NIGHT- Atomic Kitten (28,343) 10- TOO LOST IN YOU- Sugababes (27,000) 1998: 1- GOODBYE- Spice Girls (380,711) 4- BELIEVE- Cher (123,000) 5- TO YOU I BELONG- B*Witched (108,000)* 6- HEARTBEAT/ TRAGEDY- Steps (99,000) 7- END OF THE LINE- Honeyz (82,000)* 8- WHEN YOU’RE GONE- Bryan Adams/ Mel C (75,000)* 9- SHE WANTS YOU- Billie (73,000)*
December 21, 20187 yr I also think Ladbaby will do it, yesterday he was selling 10 times more than Ava on iTunes
December 21, 20187 yr guessing it'll be a pretty close race with the missing data added, I hope LadBaby gets it though!
December 21, 20187 yr Is that 68k in 1998 close to the highest ever for a #10? That's pretty insane! Listening to the chart for the first time in months as work closed early today... Hoping Ava Max is #1 but expecting Ladbaby :(
December 21, 20187 yr Those 2003 and 1998 charts are absolute classics. I particularly have fond memories of listening to the 1998 one. Same and same!
