Welcome delegates from all over the Buzzjack world to Sandstad, Sandebörg to this, the 8th re-running of the Buzzjack Song Contest! Our resident historian is currently unavailable for comment (however if you want to add anything Tirren please feel free!) so we turn to original contest hosts FSR Rontvia for the all the low down on contest number åtta.

Onto the eighth contest now – and it was back to FSR Rontvia for the second time...presumably the top two had opted not to host after Maria and Mira finished third in the previous contest - and following a top two in VII of future superstars in Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, the eventual victor of this contest was another star, albeit one that had already seen UK success.

Overall the contest continued to become more and more inspired at this point, with many countries opting for unknowns or blog stars that hadn't yet broken through.

Big hits this month included Europop from Simondly, Xanaga and Faztickle, courtesy of September, Kate Ryan and Alphabeat respectively while rather inspired high finishers came from Triodopolis with a great little energetic pop song and Tapatilandia with a rather epic Spanish language pop track. Ashton managed another top ten finish with Gabrilla Cilmi's brilliant album track Got No Place To Go and Angelicland scored a top three with Ladyhawke's Paris Is Burning.

Lower down were a clutch of former UK hits (they were still being sent but to far lesser success than ever before) from The 411, Kate Nash, Ace Of Base, Royksopp, KT Tunstall, Kate Bush, Solid Harmonie and ABBA. Shockingly Kate Bush and ABBA both DNQ'd in spectacular style with classic tracks.

Kopecka introduced 2009 future star Little Boots to BJSC with Meddle while Frahliso were very early to the party with Charli XCX! The host nation registered a bit of a flop (though today I'd be ecstatic with 19th) in Thermostatic's understated but excellent electro dance track Driving, which I sent to celebrate passing my driving test!

Annie was widely expected to do far better than 18th with My Love Is Better while Eledan went for this year's upcoming Russian Eurovision entrant Sergey Lazarev...and flopped.

Other entries of note were Farahtyn's novelty entry Banana Phone and Quotosibb sending Sara Bareilles just four contests after her Rontvian win with Love Song. Lightning didn't strike twice and she finished 16th with Fairytale.

Up at the top of the scoreboard Lily Allen won by just a single point with a leaked new song that would later become European single F*ck You on her upcoming album. It was a rather uninspired choice seeing as Ashton had come second only a few months earlier with I Don't Know (which later became The Fear of course...).

Hot on its heels in second place was future UK top 20 hit The World Should Revolve Around Me by Little Jackie. 2008-10 was still rife with participants picking tracks from the upcoming releases schedule in the hopes of finding a smash. I have to say I'd have loved this to win and gave it my full 12.

The only real voting controversy – though it was a big one – came from Botanikka who failed to send their votes before the deadline and in fact ended up sending them halfway through the live vote reveal. Obviously I could not accept these at this point and therefore the votes were disqualified, but had they come in by the deadline (and indeed before half of the other points had already been revealed!) then Sangria's Tata Young would have won this contest with I Believe! This track eventually finished fourth, but can it storm to its rightful victory this time around...?

So onto the songs! 12 songs from each semi will qualify to the final along with this contest's AQs. You can't vote for these 3 songs yet, but feel free to take a listen!

Recap Vid

(Again, thanks to Rich for the recap videos still up after 8 years!)

Also, I've updated some of the countries names to their modern equivalent, if I missed any please let me know! And naturally, a majority of the original YouTube links were dead, so hopefully I've replaced them with the correct entry, again if I haven't, tell me!

Voting will be done in the usual manner of awarding your top ten in each semi 12/10/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 points, via PM to myself. As we are still in the stages of Re:Loaded where a majority of the participants no longer participate, there are no deductions for non-voting, however if you do have a representative in the contest, you may not vote for your own entry. Voting closes at 23:59 on Sunday 3rd April 2016, with the qualifiers being announced the following evening.

Wow this contest hitting us so hard out of no where.

I had slightly forgotten about entering Banana Phone. Hopefully it will rightfully smash the competition this time.

Interesting about Tata Young winning with DQed votes. I didn't realise it was that close of a top 4, and for history's sake that would have looked a much more inspired winner than F*ck You.

And Charli XCX in 2008 is some amazing prescience from Frahliso. Having not heard the song I wonder how it'll do now everyone knows her name. Some names that got recycled back when I first joined BJSC in The Do and Belanova too. And that makes Pavel sending two consecutive future Russian Eurovision entrants in his first year in the contest.

Obviously the usual cheap suspects that I'll be limiting my voting for to try and keep Reloaded having a point to it (as far as I can tell if we'd been voting like we have up to now in Reloaded the contest would have never survived), but especial WTFery has to go to The Sign, Mikey, how does that become a discovery for anyone  The 411, KT Tunstall, Alphabeat, obviously Lily Allen and maybe ABBA too (although that is perhaps one of their less known big ones and one people SHOULD know for being godly).

Hype for Röyksopp and Kate Bush ^_^

Nice long voting period, hopefully I won't forget though!

Also, I've updated some of the countries names to their modern equivalent, if I missed any please let me know!

United States of Russiatron should be updated to Xanaga. The rest are correct x

Actually wouldn't mind finally seeing an original winner repeat its win this time, much love for 'Fuck You' Although 'Bananaphone'...

us knowing who charli xcx was before she got all famous and shit :')

hoping for some TRASHYGAI votes for Sergey~

hoping for some TRASHYGAI votes for Sergey~

His talking about a girlfriend here is hilarious.

This isn't the BEST contest overall, especially with what's in semi 2, and annoyingly, lots of the cheaper stuff is pretty decent. But I think I'll have to be team Tata Young. Or Thermostatic. Those are some good AQs.

First set of votes in, only taken a week :cheer:

I will be voting in this! (Would have joined for the Dubtrack session / tried to promote it a bit but I didn't see that post :P)

The original deadline was tonight but I've only got 5 votes so this will remain open until Sunday 3rd April, 23:59, hopefully there can be some more votes!

Shit I had forgotten about this again anyway lmao so thank you x

I might give a Dubtrack session for this a second attempt (and just use it as an excuse to make myself and Jade vote anyway even if no one else turns up haha), most likely on Friday ~

Oh thank you for the extension, I ended up forgetting to vote after all lol. Will definitely try to get some votesies in by the new time!
Nearly forgot about this once again. Will start listening shortly.
