Bandaged's "All You Need Is Love" made #161 in this weeks chart, which is very disappointing and deserved for this song.

Have any other charity songs done disastorous?

===============

This is a list of all the charity singles that have entered the charts, not sure if there is any others to add which I collated over the years.

some of those are wrong

Saturdays got to No.2, Young Soul Rebels got to No.10, Spice Girls #11 etc...

Does the artists stand up to cancer one count? It peaked at 26
I personally wouldn't count that as a "flop" as such. It did brilliantly for a single with literally zero airplay, zero videoplay and zero promotion. I was shocked it got as high as it did actually LOL.

I've revised some of them, It seems a few of the later ones have not been revised.

Stand Up To Cancer did peak at #26, my mistake. There maybe a few more errors in there that I haven't noticed.

You'll Never Walk Alone was by The Crowd, not The Crows

 sounds much better as Crows. ;)

Atomic Kitten - Anyone Who Had A Heart was for charity wasnt it? Reached a miserable peak of #77 I think.

Position - Artist - Title - Date

33 - Starvation Starvation / Tam-Tam Pour L'Ethiope - Mar 1985

Oh yes! :o

Thank you very much for this :)

It seems we are back to the late 80s/early 90s with the flop CIN singles.

Some are inapprorpriate I may say:

"Girls of FHM" for a Breast Cancer charity - not appropriate for the confidence of these women.

"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" for UNCIEF - Sick a bit!

"Run To The Hills" for MS - Thats just distasteful.

Edited by Joinwithus

To add to the list of charity records:

This was billed as a "benefit" record rather than a "charity" record but the same principle of donating all profits applied:

Soul Deep (Part 1) - Council Collective, charted December 22, 1984 and peaked at #24 the following week.

The song was a benefit record in aid of "Women Against Pit Closures" (the miners were on strike during much of 1984 through to 1985) though a donation was also made to a fund set up following the death of David Wilkie, a taxi driver, who died on November 30, 1984 driving a non-striking miner home from work. Two striking miners dropped a concrete block from a road bridge onto his taxi as he drove, killing him instantly.

Artists on the track:

Paul Weller, Mick Talbot (both Style Council), D.C. Lee, Dizzy Hites, Junior Giscombe, Vaughn Toulouse, Leonardo Chignoli and US singer Jimmy Ruffin.

It meant Paul Weller featured on 2 charting charity records at the same time, this one and Band Aid.

Another to add to the list, In Your Care by Tasmin Archer was released for the Childline charity, #16 in 1993.
Thank you very much for this :)

It seems we are back to the late 80s/early 90s with the flop CIN singles.

they've been awful recently...Peter Kay aside...

McFly's one last year were songs from their already released album, the Spice Girls song was the weakest of their career, Liberty X's song was a bland cover version...

compare it to 2000 and 2001, two original pop songs from S Club 7, and arguably two of their finest singles...and You & I from Will Young in 2002, which was an extremely good song

we need more original pop songs, but all charity singles these days seem to be cheap sounding emotion sapped covers :(

That charted in the UK? Wow :o Very successful since it was French and featured almost exclusively African artists...
The AA side featured African artists but the A side, Starvation, featured a number of UK acts from the 2 Tone era including members of The Specials, Madness and The Beat plus UB40.
