This very much... Bohemian Rhapsody is probably among the greatest songs of all time, and that was Xmas #1... twice...

Also, to a certain extent, I'd say Bob The Builder is a bit of a pop classic. If only for the fact that everyone knows it.

It was only a #1 2nd time around because Freddie died or the song would never have seen light of day that xmas

Please do not post any spoilers on the top 2 singles anywhere on the site (including in spoilers) as we all want the result to be a surprise today (hopefully a nice surprise).

I will tempoarily ban anyone that ignores this request.

Rubbish, why are you agreeing with what Simon said in the NME? I don't understand it; or are your far right wing pro-corporate fat cat views showing at their ugliest?

Are you seriously telling me the likes of: "What Do You Want to Make Those Eyes at Me For?"; "Moon River"; "Return to Sender"; "I Want to Hold Your Hand"; "I Feel Fine"; "Day Tripper" / "We Can Work It Out"; "Green Green Grass of Home"; "Hello, Goodbye"; "I Hear You Knocking"; "Merry Xmas Everybody"; "Bohemian Rhapsody"; "Mull of Kintyre" / "Girls' School"; "Mary's Boy Child" / "Oh My Lord"; "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)"; "Don't You Want Me"; "Only You"; "Do They Know It's Christmas?"; "Merry Christmas Everyone"; "Reet Petite"; "Always on My Mind"; "I Will Always Love You"; "Stay Another Day"; "2 Become 1"; "Too Much"; "Goodbye"; "Sound of the Underground" & "Mad World" are not pop classics?

I am not talking about the 60's, 70's, 80's etc, some great records were #1 but from 1990 onwards I have liked 2 songs - Mad World and Bohemian Rhapsody and the latter only came out because Freddie died, the rest of it has been novelty records like Mr Blobby and Bob The Builder, boyband/girl band dreary ballads, charity records etc etc

The true spirit of the xmas #1 died in 1989 for me

Oh and Spice Girls had competition remember? Not like X Factor which already has 200k on its name in 12 hours? It's not as if the Spice Girls didn't EARN their no.1? They did it without media hype?

And original songs!

And original songs!

The Spice Girls were a marketing machine every much as X Factor is, if Spice Girls bought out a song of them farting in the bath it would have been a surefire #1 with all the marketing that surrounded them, they had a movie (how many modern groups have had their own movie ?) they had a massive marketing machine that filled WH Smith's with Spice Girls merchandise, colouring books, annuals etc etc, the Spice Girls were a product

yes they were but you have to have the music to back it up to, thats why they weren't 1 hit wonders and had 9 uk #1's. they had insanely catchy tunes and the slower songs 2 become 1, viva forever and goodbye were all good quality songs. theres no way you can sustain their sales for 3 years without having the songs to back it up. look at leona she hasn't managed to keep up her amazing sales, yet shes still hyped to the max.

you talk nonsense... 1 campaigne to deliberately upset the cowell roadshow isnt a 'wrong'... its a protest by people who are sick of the cowell karaoke circus.

i cant see it setting a precident , but id support anything that attacks the cowell bandwagon. i think things would just become confused with several alternatives ...

A campaign to have another song at No.1 isn't wrong, but for people to blatantly break chart rules by downloading the same track dozens of times, use vouchers/promotions that they are not entitled to, those from OUTSIDE THE UK being able to influence who gets the UK No.1 by downloading as well, people going into shops and sabotaging sales of another product by hiding/covering it up - THIS IS ALL WRONG.

FWIW, I don't actually like The Climb and would prefer something else to be No.1, but if the amount of people who actually pretended to give a f**k had acted in a manner which complied with chart rules then there wouldn't be a question of who was No.1 - the result would be guaranteed.

Cowell is CHEATING by using prime product placement in supermarket chains that are only stocking this one single.

And the Facebook campaign has been all above board, has it?

If the commercialist aspect is what you're getting at, this one campaign isn't going to change what supermarkets stock, or what radio stations play. These are far greater issues on what controls the charts.

I do agree with this and to be fair I think 2 Become 1 is a decent song anyway and Goodbye is their best.

They may not be Queen but they did have some overlooked songs imho.

Exactly, the RATM campaign make themselves out to be modern day Robin Hoods/freedom fighters who are out to save the integrity of the chart and the music industry when infact they have been more Robert Mugabe than Robin Hood with the devious and underhand tactics

Right now no one knows for sure. So any posts otherwise can be taken with a large pinch of salt.

JOE now odds on with Betfair!!!!!!

WTF??!!!

Er... no he isn't?

On my comp at least, it's Joe 3.25, Rage 1.35...

Anyway, Betfair odds are based on what people are betting on.

Edited by BrayFish

He was a second ago, something happened that caused Joe's odds to go from 3.5 down to 1.55. RATM are back in front now, but it's still very close

I quite never understood how those odds work... do these numbers mean more people think Joe or RATM will win it?

Once the result is known betting will be suspended, so it's pointless over analysing odds, which can be manipulated to encourage a flurry of late bets.

Read the Comments under this 'Daily Mail' Article,

to see what a great many people think of 'The

Climb', the 'X Factor', the Judges, & the 'Race' for

the 2009 Christmas No.1. (It only shows the 1st 6

Comments - to see all 27, Click-On 'View all').

People are just tired of weak, manufactured Covers

automatically going to No.1 at Christmas - just

because the Winner of the 'X Factor' is Singing

them. It's nothing to do with Music - just about

easy Fame, & Simon Cowell making even more money.....

Gareth Gates admitted in last nights 'Manchester

Evening News' that Simon Cowell had told he & Will

Young, that they'd BOTH get Record Contracts off

him - no matter who Won the 2002 'Pop Idol', when

he & Will were in the Final.

Gareth said he wasn't sure if he ought to reveal

that. (That's because it means that the Voting was

purely to get Cash out of the Viewers - the 'Prize'

was going to BOTH Guys! It's called a Con! A deceit).

'The Climb' has a huge advantage over the RATM 'Single'

- it is available on CD. 'The Climb' was always going to get

to No.1 - even if it isn't today, it will be next Sunday. The

RATM Campaign was always going to die out after today -

if it is No.1 in today's Chart, then its 'Goal' will have been

achieved, & people will cease Downloading it. If it is No.2

today, its 'Goal' has failed - and people will cease Downloading

it due to that. 'The Climb' is AWFUL - but, it was always going

to be a No.1 in the UK - either this Week, or next.....

Really dont like Cowell and definitely dont like The Climb but the RATM campaign has cheated and used underhand methods all week to achieve their aim. There are even American forums thay they have gone on detailing how they can influence the UK chart and take advantage of promotions and free downloads. It is ridiculous the lengths they have gone to in order to make a point. I really do think there are grounds for the song to be disqualified and despite my dislike of Cowell I actually couldnt care less if The Climb got to number 1 now.
Will they really show RATM on Xmas TOTP if they are #1? I know Joe has recorded his performance, they obviously thought he was a dead cert!
