December 27, 200915 yr Its just BEPs I gotta feeling isnt far behind it, and will probably get another boost this week because of the 'itunes gift card' effect Poker Face will also receive a boost - BEP won't close the gap.
December 27, 200915 yr I've emailed the OCC about this. Hopefully we'll have confirmation this week. Did you ask them to forward or email you a copy of the top 200 Singles and Albums of the year :D
December 27, 200915 yr If you don't ask, you don't get :P The reason they didn't do it today has to be that they still have a week to go. I imagine the Radio 1 producers didn't realise that either. Edited December 27, 200915 yr by Dave B
December 27, 200915 yr Did you ask them to forward or email you a copy of the top 200 Singles and Albums of the year :D  I sort of hinted about it. If they reply without them, then I'll send another email of gratitude whilst asking for them :P although theyt may not be ready, especially if there is still a week of sales to go.

December 27, 200915 yr As long as I am correct that even when the chart was announced on a Tuesday, it would be a Sun-Sat sales period with the Saturday being the week ending date, the following years had 53 chart weeks using my method (ie. when W/E 7 Jan occurs, that year has 53 weeks): 1956 1961 1967 1978 1984 1989 1995 2006 So that's 8, and the 9th 53-week year will be in 2012 (though the last week or two may be cut short by the world being destroyed). There's a 5 or 6 year gap between each (which makes perfect sense due to the way leap years work - if they didn't exist, the W/E date would be set back 1 day a year, and it would take 7 years, but depending on whether there are 1 or 2 leap years in that period it would take 5 or 6 years), though twice a leap year has come in at just the right time, skipping over the 'scheduled' 53 week year to bring the gap to 11 years. As far as I can tell, the pattern is 6yrs-5yrs-6yrs-11yrs and it then repeats Edited December 27, 200915 yr by BrayFish
December 27, 200915 yr Your thinking is correct, but OCC are using different criteria to Gallup's. Since Gallup took over the 53-week years have been 1986, 1992, 1998 and 2004. Note using Gallup's methodology 1997 and 2003 would have been 53-week years rather than 1998 and 2004. As this year has the same day/date combinations as 1998, this should be a 53-week year, but we shall see.
December 28, 200915 yr Phil from OCC is out of office until a week today so its quite likely we'll know the cut-off date before he replies to me anyway. As for the charts we may as well just wait for them to be published since answers won't arrive until next weekend probably.
December 28, 200915 yr Hi everyone. First post! Radio 1 is currently playing the top selling albums of the decade. Doesn't that imply that the sales for 2009 have already cut-off after yesterdays' charts? Edited December 28, 200915 yr by mickeypops
December 28, 200915 yr Hi everyone. First post! Radio 1 is currently playing the top selling albums of the decade. Doesn't that imply that the sales for 2009 have already cut-off after yesterdays' charts? It shouls do but in the past there has been confusion. Like in 2004, Scissor Sisters had the best selling album but Radio 1 announced that Keane did, as they didn't take the final week into account.
December 28, 200915 yr Hi everyone. First post! Radio 1 is currently playing the top selling albums of the decade. Doesn't that imply that the sales for 2009 have already cut-off after yesterdays' charts? Yes it would but http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a19...number-one.html The Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "The race for Christmas number one was the most exciting many of us can remember, but, having secured his own number one, McElderry can top his year off with another honour and has an excellent chance of making the year-end top five by next week." Got a funny feeling there is another week, but its a bit sketchy
December 28, 200915 yr So, on the "official" rundown of the decade's best selling albums, they've just announced Susan Boyle at number at number 56. If they're announcing this early, with another week's sales to add, her album could easily sell another couple of hundred thousand which would have pushed it up, say ten places. Other artists with currently selling albums will also be affected - e.g. Lady Gaga. What's the point in publishing the list if it's just plain wrong?
December 28, 200915 yr Even if sales up to Saturday January 2nd count towards the 2009 and decade charts, it doesn't make this chart wrong. It merely covers a period that is one week shorter, just as any number of YTD lists that have appeared here and elsewhere over the months have not been wrong just because it wasn't the year-end. The alternative to this would be for the broadcast to be in the first week of January when many potential listeners would be back at work / school etc. OK, there would still be ways of listening to it and the chart would still be on here etc. Back in the old days, when access to sales figures was nil or patchy, charts that covered one week less than the full year were very useful because you could compare the broadcast chart and the full year chart and use the differences to judge sales gaps between some of the records.
December 28, 200915 yr And it's not like the next week is going to cause loads of differences on the decade list, particularly the albums. One week out of 10 years is a drop in the ocean, especially considering no album is going to sell a lot this week. Susan Boyle and Lady GaGa might move up a few places on the final list after next week, but that will be pretty much it.
December 28, 200915 yr btw everyone, the chart of the year on viva now is 3 weeks old, meh No point in watching it, what a waste of time showing it argh...
December 28, 200915 yr btw everyone, the chart of the year on viva now is 3 weeks old, meh Huh :o you mean they've screwed up :o. Is it the actualy biggest selling songs of 09 . TBH i think the Hit 40 uk top 100 of 2009 is it. :D
December 28, 200915 yr mtv also showed the biggest selling singles of 2009 there with pokerface at no1 and igotta feeling at no2.then i turned it over to 4music and they were playing the no1s of 2009 and unbelieveably they played rage as the xmas no1, joe as this weeks no1 and kesha tik tok as next weeks no1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whats that all about. the music channels really just play the countdowns this week to fill in their xmas scheduele and nothing more - they arent very accurate - their researchers should come on here - that would confuse them all right lol
