February 25, 201015 yr I wasn't sure about the album version of 'Wish I Stayed' at first either, but after a few listens it's really grown on me. I think I probably still prefer the demo version atm but only marginally. I think I prefer the album version of Wish I Stayed :o Yeah, it is growing on me, but the demo is one of my most played songs since having it from like 2008 ! The album is very solid though and I love it as much as I hoping tbh ! The end of 'Guns and Horses' is quite lol ! Hopefully it has the success that 'Starry Eyed' has had so far!
February 25, 201015 yr 'guns and horses' is growng on me  another album highlight tbh. so far, my favourite album of 2010. <3 Edited February 25, 201015 yr by Doug Vickers
February 25, 201015 yr I'm loving this album, much more than I was expecting to as well. 'Your Biggest Mistake', 'Guns And Horses' and 'Wish I Stayed' are my favourites atm, I really love the tone to her voice.
February 25, 201015 yr Totally fallen in love with this album! So much so that I booked to see her in Manchester after 1 play of the album  Loving 'This Love', 'Under The Sheets', 'The Writer', 'Your Biggest Mistake' & 'I'll Hold My Breath' in particular. I realise this is half the album.. haha I much prefer the demo version of 'Wish I Stayed', but I still like the album version.
February 25, 201015 yr Agreed, having listened to Ellie's album one artist comes to my mind = this generation's Dido = fairly bland but good background pop music that will shift a hell of a lot of units. I'll stick with the quirkier Marina, thanks. Agreed. Ellie's music lacks personality, unfortunately. Very pedestrian, anybody could sing it, no real "stamp" of hers on it. Of course it's a good pop album compared to a lot of others in the genre, but it doesn't stand up to more "credible" albums. And re: the comparisons - listening to Ellie and Marina one after the other it's very obvious which album is better.
February 26, 201015 yr My copy's just arrived in the post. I'm actually in love with this album atm.
February 27, 201015 yr I didn't know anything of hers at all prior to Starry Eyed so I've gone into listening to the album with quite an open mind and I really like it. I don't think for now at least anything is as majestic as the single but I properly love Your Biggest Mistake. That needs to be released next. I agree with Jack about her tone of voice - it's pretty much perfect for jittery pop like this. Oh but I should mention that The Writer is the worst song on there. The lyrics make me want to stab myself. Boo at all the love!
February 27, 201015 yr Its like putting Marina & Ellie head to head, I still prefer Marina over Ellie, but they are 2 different artists altogether. I still think the Brits Critics choice should have went to Marina. But I do think Marina has the better voice. Starry Eyed is OK, I like it, but I think Under The Sheets is far better, might you I haven't heard Ellie's album yet, if I find time I look on you tube first before I buy her album, some are bound to appear on there.
February 27, 201015 yr Album arrived this morning and I'd rate as follows: 07|Guns And Horses 07|Starry Eyed 03|This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) 09|Under The Sheets 02|The Writer 04|Everytime You Go 04|Wish I Stayed 02|Your Biggest Mistake 02|I'll Hold My Breath 03|Salt Skin The worst album I've bought in quite some time tbh. The lyrics are incredibly bland and generic and, incredibly considering the easy subject matters, often don't even make sense as a whole. Whoever said that she is the new Dido is spot on, that's who came to my mind as I was listening - except for I would say that the Dido albums are probably more exciting. :( Edited February 27, 201015 yr by Dandy*
February 27, 201015 yr Will listen to it on Monday, when it's put onto We7 Will be the 4th album of the year that I've properly listened to. Marina has the best so far, closely follow by Owl City, with Ke$ha in third even though that's still very good. Hope Ellie doesn't disappoint, I have high expectations
February 27, 201015 yr I heard Ellie's Live Lounge cover of 'Sweet Disposition' and she really won me over with it, despite not at all liking the original song. It showed her voice better and it's quite impressive, despite her trying to imitate Bjork for some parts of it. I vaguely liked 'Under The Sheets' and 'Starry Eyed' is okay, maybe I'll give the album a proper listen.
February 27, 201015 yr I really want to give Ellie and the album another chance, but I really don't feel like it, nothing very memorable from the first listen Might try it again tomorrow
February 27, 201015 yr The worst album I've bought in quite some time tbh. The lyrics are incredibly bland and generic and, incredibly considering the easy subject matters, often don't even make sense as a whole. Whoever said that she is the new Dido is spot on, that's who came to my mind as I was listening - except for I would say that the Dido albums are probably more exciting. :( Well naturally, Dido's first two albums are wonderful! As for your lyrics criticism I have to say I think it's refreshing to hear an artist who is being touted as alternative pop singing lyrics which aren't ridiculous, try-hard riddles like those of so many alternative artists. Her lyrics are still quite original I'd say but they're not going to alienate anybody and that's a nice balance to have found for somebody who is seen as 'quirky'.
February 28, 201015 yr Guns and Horses - 10 Starry Eyed - 10 This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) - 10 Under The Sheets - 10 The Writer - 10 Everytime You Go - 8 Wish I Stayed - 9 Your Biggest Mistake - 10 I'll Hold My Breath - 8 Salt Skin - 10 Overall: 10/10 Absolutely AMAZING ALBUM , deffo overtaken Marina to become my fave album of 2010! It's so brilliant i may even go as far as to say it is almost on par with Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster! My fave ATM except the two singles would be The Writer . but every track is brilliant!!!! It should have no probs hitting no.1 :D
March 1, 201015 yr Author It's hard for me to judge this album properly. There'd only been 3 songs i'd not heard in full prior to listening to the album. The Writer sounds better in its glossy production imo than the demo/ I'm really not feeling Everytime You Go. I love the demo, but the album version just feels too over produced and un-needed imo. It's much better as a stripped back acoustic song. This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) will be the next single, I am guessing. Good choice really.
March 1, 201015 yr Mine arrived today. I got a signed one from Play.com. It looks like her pen was running out and she'd got to the point where writing her last name was too much, but it's oh well. Listening to it now. I think I'll get used to "Guns and Horses" but I love the old version so much more. :( That's about as far as I've got so far. The CD sticker says "Includes the singles Starry Eyed, Under The Sheets and Guns And Horses". I know they're not usually the best indication, but I kinda hope so. It's been one of my favourites until now.
March 1, 201015 yr the itunes only track 'lights' is amazing too  I want it but it's album only :(. edit: nevermind, I have it now. :P Edited March 1, 201015 yr by Doug Vickers
March 2, 201015 yr I'd love for 'Wish I Stayed' to be the next single, not massively impressed with the album, but it's quite nice. :)
March 2, 201015 yr BOYYYYY has this album grown on me or WHAT? LOL. I love it now. (Not enough to buy it, maybe when it's in HMV's 2 for £10 offer :kink:) But yeah. Still loving 'The Writer' the most, as well as 'Guns And Horses'. 'Wish I Stayed' has majorly grown on me now too, probably like it the same as the original actually!
