I did not watch Robbies BRITS performance but I will look on YT .After two dire performances on the X-factor I just could not be bothered. What is wrong with him being smug the British have a funny attitude to success and people who do well , that they should hide their light under a bushel and be humble and insipid with it.
I also like his swing stuff, although I'm glad he didn't continue with it. It's a nice 'one-off'. Terrible for anything else.

Also, I hate how lots of people perceive him to be arrogant and untalented. I personally don't agree with this, but when he releases $h!t like Rudebox, does a fairly inappropriate (it's a singing show, not an entertaining show) and arrogant performance on X-Factor and follows it up with the occaisonal performance where his voice is just completely off, it's no wonder that many people think he's untalented. Personally, I think he's not the greatest talent, but he sure can sing pretty well. :D

I agree it was a good one-off and I am happy he didn't go on that way. I feel Rudebox is greatly underrated and Swing is overrated. It is difficult to explain how his most conservative and less creative album (and my least favorite) is regarded as his best...

A lot of people think he is untalented, well they should think twice. A lot of criticism is understandable for the man with the most Brits the biggest concerts and best sales, if he is not your favorite artist you may feel he is overrated. Untalented is a bit naive to say though. He could be one of the best lyricists of the last 20 years, and his overall album work (which includes A LOT of songs) is in the majority wide and great. He may not have Leona's or Mariah's powerfull notes but the metal of his voice is awesome when he sings high (even falcetto) or sharp rock notes, and is always meaningfull and emontional (though not always in good condition or in tune, thats for sure!) I know he is a great entertainer but thats not the whole story about him, he IS an artist. The truth is that a lot of drinking, drugs weird statements and wrong decisions and a huge amount of toxic press hurt his image. But the media hate him and love him at the same time, the only thing I really care about is his music.

Well said. Regarding Rudebox, I mean the single 'Rudebox' was bad - not the entire album.

Also I agree about the drink, drugs and wierd statements.

In fact I agree with it all. :yahoo:

I was watching the Curling on the other channel when the Brits was on. It should have been the Men's Downhill but I figured even Curling was more interesting than the Brits. Whilst they were checking the bristles on one of the brushes I turned over for a brief while and was lucky enough to catch Lady GaGa ... who I've heard was the best of the night.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your success and even a bit boastful ... I can stand it when people like Noel Gallagher preen themselves. Robbie has just got a face I want to smack! I swear to god he must have been born with that stupid smirk on his face.

Norma

I think Nora that you my just secretly love Robbie... :heehee:
I think Nora that you my just secretly love Robbie... :heehee:

Of course she does....what else would explain her extraordinary interest in him...she only said the other day how handsome she thought he was, yet claims he has a face she wants to smack  And Norma, you have already said you thought Rob's BRITS performance was the best of the night apart from Gaga's, so there is no use to using the Curling as an excuse when you said enough times how it was cancelled. :P

Btw, Rich, cheers for that TT clip - I have never seen it and really needed a good laugh. Priceless stuff

Btw, the actual album Rudebox (not the song) is, as Thisispop along with loads of excellent reviews it got from proper music magazines and broadsheets, a very good and underrated album...too many songs on it (17) but half a dozen fantastic tracks, my personal faves being Viva Life On Mars, The Actor, The 80's and The 90's....not fogetting Keep On, Lovelight and the hilarious Dickhead.

From what I saw on youtube ... yes ... Rob was the best of the night apart from GaGa ... but only because every other artist was sh/te (including Florence & Dizzee!). And it was the downhill racing that was cancelled ... not the curling!

I agree about the SLTS clip by the way ... but what the hell ... they were young, they needed the money, there were incriminating pictures, etc, etc! As bad as it was ... it is infinitely preferable to Rob's f*cking awful RAH Swing Night! At least TT were young kids doing a young song ... Rob was just trying to be an old man before his time. I know that his father 'fired his interest' in this kind of music ... but f*cking hell man ... have a frigging mind of your own. By that token ... I'd still be singing the praises of Country & Western music ... 'because me mam and dad liked it'.

Besides ... even you, as a Robbie fan ... must admit he bears an uncanny resemblence to a wide-mouthed, lipless frog!

Anyway ... what are you complaining about ... ensuring Rob and TT get bashed has kept Leona and Will off this topic for about the last five pages!

Nah, afraid not Norma, no-one would seriously think that piece of pure comedy gold was better (in terms of quality not comedy) in any humanly way to a critically acclaimed, vocally spot on gig that is wideley rememered as being a triumph, along with Knebworth by critics, unless they, like you, loved TT and (claimed) to detest Rob. His Swing gig was fantastic and flawless....even I was suprised at the time just how good his voice can be when he seriously puts his mind to it. It's huge critical acclaim for many of his biggest critics at the time is testement of that.....none of them thought he could pull it off, I doubt even he did, but he more than pulled it off. I have never seen anyone looking so natural and enjoying themselves on stage at he was on that night. He loved the music and took a huge risk at the time (just like he did with the rap/electronic 'Rudebox' was which was what he also loved, I doubt his dad had any interest in it though  ) and talk about pulling it off and then some....he basically revived the Swing genre outside of America, and actually released what went on to be the best selling Swing album outside of the US..EVER (and many UK acts tried to duplicate his success but failed hugely) Pretty remarkable to be quite honest, unlike that frankly appauling clip, which could'nt be less remarkable.Jedward would have trouble topping that.... it's even worse than Westlife's cover of LMEY I had the misfortune of coming accross a few years back when their Croker gig was on TV.

I seem to remember you saying before how when you first saw his Swing gig when it was on you thought it was brilliant, but now looking back you dislike it. I'll have you know you were spot on first time as you obviously looked on it subjectively :P

Btw, I'm not complaining.....I am in full agreement about the Leona/Will bashing running it's course......although I do wonder if you will ever get bored with discussing the Robster on a dailing basis.. afterall I can't stand Westlife, but the thought of discussing them so much would drive me insane .....I am begining to think you have a checklist which to tick each time you get the standard 'digs' in, you know ''the modest talent, Cheeky Chappie, Norman Wisdon" and a few of the other of your 'Greatest Hits' if you will. And I have no comment to make or interest in his appearance, whereas you clearly fancy the pants off the bloke - lips and smug grins can't even get in the way of that.

Who is next for a bashing btw? I'd nominate Westlife myself, in particular Louis Walsh who was on the radio the other day saying how their latest album has been another massive #1 hit for them, and how their Croke Park concert in Dublin has sold out in record time.......when in reality their album did not go to #1 in the UK or Ireland, and it dropped out of the chart very quickly and is their worst seller of their career... and their Croker gig has been on sale since last year I think, and is still being heavily advertised....Louis has got so desperate he has now added JEDWARD as a support act. Never has there been another manager who spouts such utter $h!te.

Im Irish but i think Westlife are $h!te. All they sing now is covers and they are afraid to Release a 2nd single from there latest album because it will flop. Nicky and Shane cant sing and Bearly ever sing a solo line. Im delighted 'what about now' only reached No2 because they really didnt deserve the number 1 spot ha

I think Westlife are great!

Final note ... you're probably right ... I do remember me and sissy getting totally blotto one night listening to it and we were singing along ... so I think there was a time when I thought it was ok. In the cold, sober light of day though ... it was a young man pretending to be a sad old man. But the swing thing was right for him ... I think his swing album is his biggest selling isn't it? I suppose that means people prefer him singing other people's stuff to his own. A bit like Westlife really .... which brings us neatly round!

... but I won't hear a word said against Westlife! So I shall not be partaking of this bit of bashing ... I'll wait until a more worthy act is brought in.

Norma

Nope, in the UK 'I've Been Expecting You' is his best selling album, and globally Intensive Care in terms of studio albums with the GH being the best seller overall with over 8 Million. But there is no doubt about it, his Swing album was an astonishingly successful album, far more so than anyone anticipated. I am glad he never did the second one part of his contract though - it was great for a once off but really most of the best tunes were covered on the album - although I do wish he had've recorded 'My Way' for it, as his live redition at the RAH was fantastic.

Back to Westlife though, it did make me laugh when their hilariously titled Swing effort 'Allow Us To Be Frank' became (at the time) their worst seller ever, that is till their latest album was released. And yes, where is that second single? Very odd how they went on and on in interviews about how fantastic the original material was yet all they have released is a cover so far. -_-

I won't hear a word said against Westlife ... I can't ... I'm deaf! You'll be starting on McFly next! Leave the young kids alone!

Norma

McFly-Baby's Coming Back/Transylvania 1-20. nuff said.

I have to admit this does make a change from the constant Leona debates  but I dont think Robbie and TT deserve to be bashed so much- They've both made great records in their careers

Cant believe that theres been hardly anything on this rap $h!te that is suddenly clogging up the charts- Now that deserves bashing!

Other than Bedrock and Jay Z what other rap songs are in the Top 40?
