Rule The World always sounds stunning as a soundbed, I forget what a grand and sensational piece of music it is, easily one of the greatest pop songs of all time, despite all of the radio overplay :drama:

I find the lyrics quite cheesy and cliched and the music quite generic.

 

Still, it's probably one of the best things they've ever produced.

I think Rule the World is a fantastic song. Not one of the best of all time, but it is extremely good in my opinion.

 

And Halo/Walking in Sunshine was used on BGT?!? I hope it does rise. It's a really good song I think. Halo sounds so much better when it's sped up.

Yes, I love it! It's so much more than generic in my opinion, it's so grand and overblown for a pop song but that's why I love it, particularly coming from a band previously best known for the likes of Pray and Relight My Fire - it couldn't be much more different :lol:

 

I think people will look back in 20 years and still remember it so I do think it qualifies as a future classic.

I know this could come across as bitchy/smug when taking the fact that i'm a huge Leona fan into consideration, but i think it's quality was unfortunately overshadowed by the success of Bleeding Love which was released the same week.

Not at all, in many ways I agree with you. I'm as big a Leona fan as Take That, particularly Bleeding Love which is incredible. Take That should have released Rule The World a week earlier really so it could have got a week at #1. Having said that, although I agree that for the first couple of months Bleeding Love's success completely dwarfed Rule The World, in the long run I think they'll both go down as British pop classics, although obviously Bleeding Love is more of a worldwide pop classic seeing as Rule The World didn't smash anywhere else.

 

I can't think of many weeks where two all time classics were released simultaneously, but that was certainly one of them :wub:

Yeah i agree. But it's possible that BL and RTW both benefited from higher sales due to being released the same week. There was a huge thing made of that week - with McFly, Britney and i think Amy/Mark Ronson releasing as well.

 

Anyway, no i can't remember any other former chart rivals that have gone down as classics - although wasn't Unbreak My Heart held off the top spot by Spice Girls' 2 Become 1 or Wannabe (i think it was in the Uk, might have been US though :lol:)

I would like to think "Patience" would be held in greater regard in years to come... now that is a classic.
