June 16, 201016 yr There's room for Dan Balan, Kids In Glass Houses and (worst of all) JLS on the A-List yet MIA, Kelly and Kelis are all stuck on B-List
June 16, 201016 yr :puke2: Why is JLS's Godawful song on the A-List when Alexandra's vastly superior All Night Long didn't get playlisted at all? Radio 1 are always bumlicking JLS over Alex & Diana's new single is awful (an extremely poor Once ripoff) but I do feel bad about how hard she flopped so I hope it gets playlisted in the end
June 16, 201016 yr No Diana Vickers? :o TBWML is released in less than a month. :o I think she will do a Cascada and have the follow-up to her #1 single peak out of the top 40. :( I seriously cannot see it peaking anywhere less than top 10 tbh, even without R1 support
June 16, 201016 yr It's times like this that I'm glad for Asda FM. Well, apart from their bummage of Lady Gaga and 2000-2002 garage hits (if I hear Mis-Teeq's 'All I Want' again, I will not be held responsible for my actions) Yes I know what you mean  It's a lot more varied and respectable than supermarket radio stations should really be allowed to be mixing future releases with older forgotten/semi-hits that nowhere else plays and the occasional 'classic'. Plus they nearly always play my requests when I text in :D I love when they effortlessly switch from playing something like Vera Lynn or Judy Garland (to satisfy the older customers) to Tinie Tempah or N-Dubz - now THAT is variety
June 16, 201016 yr This playlist is just getting worse why waste time playlisting songs that the 16-25 age group do not listen to and will not buy-Darwin Deez, I Blame Coco, Paramore,BBC, Mumford and Sons are going nowhere fast. I'm 23 and listen to the highlighted bands which is the majority. If they judged what song are put on the playlist by 'what's going to be #1' then the charts will always remain the same and nothing new would ever have been playlisted. By Buzzjack logic in the 60's when they'd be pondering whether to playlist this song called 'She Loves You' by this band called 'The Beatles' you'd all be like 'zomg their first song flopped. it only got #17 lets put this old crooner on instead!'
June 16, 201016 yr Vera Lynn, Tinie Tempah or N-Dubz - now THAT is variety  That is a collaboration in the making, gooddelta.
June 16, 201016 yr Fantastic for Basshunter. It deserves to be HUGE! Surprised they haven't playlisted Brandon Flowers this week! I know he has ages for release, but I thought he'd be one of those longer playlisted songs...
June 16, 201016 yr At least you get songs you know at work! In Burger King I don't recognise a single song in there, there's one that goes ''Someday it's gonna be me, someday I'm gonna be the only girl in the room for you to see'' or something which is on every five minutes. :/
June 17, 201016 yr Again dont misquote me I am talking about popularity amougst the 16/25 age group.I know that most of Paolo Nutini's fans, single and album buyers are not the R1 target audience but older adults. Other than the lead single which did well, all his last singles have been playlisted and not one has even scrapped the Top 60.He is no differnt from Michael Buble in who his target market is. It is a waste constantly playlisting him on R1 even you cannot disagree with that Bray So it doesn't matter that Paolo Nutini's latest album has sold over a million copes in the uk, but you're saying Radio 1 shouldn't playlist him just because his individual songs don't impact on the singles chart? How utterly ridiculous. Have you considered that some people actually prefer to buy an artist's album after hearing their songs? Or am I 'misquoting' you again?

Did not realise Paulo Nutini was a Buzzjack favorite.Yes many people do prefer buying his albums the vast majority being older adults.

Even if 90% of Paulo's albums are bought by outisde Radio 1's typical target audience, it still means that their target audience by more of his albums that a lot of other artists they playlist, and the ones they don't which you suggest they should playlist.
June 18, 201016 yr dre i think the new futureheads single is in the blist - theres only 15 songs in there?! as for the playlisting of songs they decide what to play by gathering info from various radio 1 djs including evening ones so you will have the likes of zane lowe, annie mac, fearne cotton, pete tong etc all putting forward arguements of a song they think should get some daytime play as they think they will be big. it makes sense since they are the experts in their field eg pete tong will argue for a big house song he's loving at the mo to be playlisted. for marrb to suggest the playlist should be dictated by chart position is ridiculous thank god it isn't and the list isnt full of xfactor rejects and cheesy pop.if you look at the chart history of some of the biggest songs of a particular generation many of them didn't chart overly well.eg one of the biggest hits of the noughties was 'mr brightside' by the killers - and i think it peaked in the top 15 - i would say it will be remembered much longer than lets say the no1 single bad boys by alex burke - the ultimate throwaway no1 imo!! but thats not saying massive pop hits by lets say britney (toxic) dont deserve recognition as thats a classic pop song!!

For the millionth time I am not stating that chart position but what appeals to the 16-25 age group that should dictate the playlist. Some acts that are playlisted have limited appeal to that age group and it makes no sense to keep playlisting them over and over again.Surely newer acts are being poorly served as opposed to middle of the road, old rockers and folk acts that would appeal to R2 lisiteners but are always added.Of course R1 can play whom they want but I think their current playlists will merely ensure they loose listeners who prefer pop.steve201 unless you have a crystal ball you do not know what songs will stand the test of time so not sure what your point is.Interesting piece that may explain some rather odd playlist decisions. Interestingly, a sad day for 6Music listeners is also a sad day for Radio 1 listeners because the closure of 6Music will have a huge impact on Radio 1's playlist. According to The Times, "Andy Parfitt, the [Radio 1] Controller, will be told that the demise of 6 Music will lead Radio 1 to become the corporation’s only major outlet for popular [by popular they mean not classical or opera $h!t] music. He will be ordered to tie the station more closely to 1Xtra, its digital counterpart, with greater cross-promotion". What this seems to suggest is that Radio 1 will have to take on board 6Music music and 1Xtra music, playing more alternative and urban tuneage. We can tell you right now that the number of 6Music listeners likely to switch to Radio 1 due to Greg James playing an extra Ash b-side every fortnight is precisely zero. What will happen, however, is that there will be less room for pop on Radio 1. Switch on a Sunday night is one of the only places on the Radio 1 schedule for a decent pop exclusive. Switch does Girls Aloud first plays and things like that, but Switch is going. his means you're looking at daytime for pop coverage, but with more genres to fit in, will Radio 1 be able to find room for a new Mini Viva, or a new Pixie Lott, or a new JLS? Will it even bother, or will it just be left to 'commercial rivals' leaving Fearne Cotton to bang on about The Temper Trap at even greater length? It's not looking good, readers. It's not looking good at all. What we seem to be looking at here is the BBC turning its back on pop music.

Have you ever considered that maybe R1's playlist IS what appeals to 16-25 year olds? They've found their audience doesn't respond well to pop (see Leona, Alexandra) and therefore are very hesitant to add it unless it's by a massive name in the UK charts (GaGa, Pixie) Edited June 18, 201016 yr by Bray

June 18, 201016 yr Sorry but NO You can't dispute stone cold facts. Broken Heels and Happy didn't go down well with R1's audience leading to their snubbage of ANL and IGY.
June 18, 201016 yr You can't dispute stone cold facts. Broken Heels and Happy didn't go down well with R1's audience leading to their snubbage of ANL and IGY. That statement makes no sense if Broken Heels had peaked at 16 and sold 100k fair enough but it peaked at 8 and sold 274k so who downloaded it. I am sure alot of R1 listeners as Alex's main fanbase is young. Not sure how well I Got You did but I think it peaked at 13 about the same as Cry Me Out by Pixie and Blah Blah Blah by Kesha both songs that were playlisted so your argument makes no sense.Anyway I am not changing my opinion that it is a playlist by R1 DJ's and producers compiled mainly based on theit own tastes and not based on what most 16/25 like.
June 18, 201016 yr You can't dispute stone cold facts. Broken Heels and Happy didn't go down well with R1's audience leading to their snubbage of ANL and IGY. They actually playlisted 'I Got You' and that excuse you gave is flimsy, and clutching at straws and you can't back that up...
