K'Naan Warsame was fortunate to arrive in New York City during his teenage years, as the Somali Civil War was reaching its peak of bloodshed. After spending some time in Harlem, he and his family eventually settled in Toronto, where he began to develop his voice as a poet, which was heavily influenced by the cadences of the early rappers. K'Naan soon sparked attention, most of all from Senegalese musician Youssou N'Dour, who was moved by the young poet's performance in front of a U.N. refugees committee. While THE DUSTY FOOT PHILOSOPHER first saw release and acclaim (including a Juno award) in 2005/06, it was widely reissued in 2008. In the intervening period, artists ranging from Nelly Furtado to Mos Def began collaborating with K'Naan as he prepared new material and toured the world, spreading his message about the injustices against the Somali people. - HMV

It's been 19th July for ages! You'd probably have had problems finding a shop open over here tomorrow anyway!!

Fingers crossed to see if we'll go #1 today? Oritsé x

On the way to radio one now!!!! If we hit that number one spot got a present for the boys haha!! Axx

Do they not find out earlier on in the day ?

Yeah same. I like 'I Am Who I Am' too, but I knew that it wasn't something that was going to chart well. The public's obsessed with up-tempo stuff, right now. Releasing a ballad, right now, isn't the best idea, especially not for a first single.

Yeh an uptempo (Something stronger than Secret Love) followed by a ballad.. then an album release. But I'm still not sure he would have done very well.. I guess hes not very relevant at the moment. Do you know if I Am Who I Am got much radio support ?

Eliza is top 12! :cheer:

It was #18 on the UK Airplay Top 20, so it got decent Airplay, both TV and Radio. It's a shame it didn't chart higher. -_-
