Its truly amazing in this climate how Take That have managed to give the albums market a huge kick up the backside, there 3 studio albums have all managed huge success since the re union and its great to see there is huge demand for the phyisical cds.
Albums

1 Take That 235,000

I read about this on the BBC News website today at work. I'm seriously surprised - I had a feeling it'd have strong first week sales but I was thinking "strong" as in 235k for the week. :kink:

Does that mean Take That have the fastest selling first day sales for a new album release. How much did Oasis 'Be Here Now' sell in its first day of release in 1997? Iirc, that's still the fastest selling album of all time in terms of first week sales (it sold 1 million copies in 11 days?). Could 'Progress' break both records in a faster amount of time? :o

'Progress' now has the 2nd most UK Album Sales on the 1st Day.

'Be Here Now' was released on Thursday 21st August 1997. It sold

356,000 on the 1st Day. In the 3 Days before that Weeks Chart, it

sold 696,000. It was also a big Global success. No.1 in at least 9

Countries, & Top 3 in at least 6 more. It eventually sold an estimated

8 Million, Globally.

We will see how 'Progress' does Internationally - bearing in mind, that

Take That have not been really big outside the UK, & Ireland, since 1996.

('The Circus' only reached No.14 in Germany, for example). We will

see if Robbie re-joining makes them bigger, outside the British Isles.

(Robbie has just had his 9th No.1 Album - in a row - in Germany).

Zeus - Billboard have now claimed 'Bere Here Now' sold 424,000 in it's first day - the OOC is it's source, however the OCC claimed in their article it was 350,000. Very odd isn't it?

Reuters have also corrected their article changing the Oasis number from 350,000 to 424,000 - after the OCC corrected their original figure.

Actually Take That were massive across Europe in 2006 when 'Patience' was released and 'Beautiful World' was a successful selling album. It's just that 'Shine' didn't exactly follow it up in quite the same way - yes, it was no. 1 in the UK but was a semi flop across Europe.

Patience did do well it must be said - #1 in several countries if I recall. And yes Beautiful World' was a successful album (sold around 400,000 outside the UK and Ireland) but not hugely successful and not on the level of their 90's success. After the initial success their popularity declined hugely. Most of their subsequent singles flopped and 'The Circus' failed to chart in the top 20 in most countries - although got to #14 in Germany. As I said in the other thread - with Robbie back and this change of direction which has resulted in an exciting and fresh record - they have a good chance of regaining the European success and beyond - the key in the promotion which starts on their Europ promo tour next month.

Zeus - yes Oasis were MASSIVE in the 90's globally but also bear in mind that their global album sales SINCE Be Here Now decreased hugely - largely due to many people's low opinion of that album. It has massive initial sucess and an initial shipments of 6M in it's first few weeks but it didn't continue selling hugely like Morning Glory did which as we all know is one of the biggest albums of all time both in the UK and Worldwide.

In fact Shine wasn't released everywhere. Reach Out was released and received promotion instead in Germany. Anyway the album reached no 2 there.

Then Greatest day was a flop. The Garden was released instead of Up all night. I don't know about Said it all.

Strange marketing choices...

Take that were NEVER massive accross europe... what do you mean massive? What is most weird is that people saying that do know more about charts than I do... Patience had a little success but I doubt they received any heavy European cetifications. (also consider the market was at a better state back then) 400K was not massive at all imo... (It is not that, but it could be translated like 1Xplat in Germany and 1Xplat in France)

ALSO:

Has any other song of TT except for Patience even recieved any top10 placing in Europe? I remember Cheryl managed that with FFTL (she is a UK only act as well) LOL

Westlife  to #10 on itunes, #6 today so i would say very frontloaded, getting near to no support from tv or radio so i see the same peak as Vickers & Ward at #13-#11.

Cheryl Cole has had one big European hit. I'll be gobsmacked if 'Promise This' does as well as 'FFTL' and ends up no. 1 in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc...

As for Take That, they made top 10 in central Europe with the following tracks:

'Pray' (#8 in Norway, #10 in Australia)

'Relight My Fire' (#10 in Holland)

'Babe' (#5 in Holland, #7 in Sweden, #8 in Switzerland, #9 in Germany, #10 in Norway)

'Everything Changes' (#7 in Holland)

'Back For Good' (#1 in Australia, #1 in Germany, #1 in Norway, #2 in Holland, #2 in Sweden, #2 in Switzerland, #3 in Austria)

'Never Forget' (#6 in Switzerland, #8 in Holland, #10 in Germany)

'How Deep Is Your Love?' (#5 in Switzerland, #6 in Norway, #7 in Austria, #7 in Germany, #7 in Holland, #7 in Sweden).

'Patience' (#1 in Germany, #1 in Switzerland, #4 in Austria, #6 in Sweden).

7heDreamer - In 1995 & 1996, Take That were relatively huge in Europe.

'Back For Good' was No.1 in several Countries, & Top 5 in many others.

As was the 'Nobody Else' Album. As was their 1996 'Greatest Hits' Album.

As was their 1996 cover of the Bee Gees, 'How Deep Is Your Love'.

As regards 'Beautiful World' - it was not No.1 anywhere, except the UK, &

Ireland. I'm aware of it reaching No.2 in Germany, but it was no-where near

as big outside the UK & Ireland, as it was in those 2 Countries.

And, 'The Circus' was not a very big Album - at all - outside the UK, & Ireland.

So, their Sales since 2006, (inclusive), have been vastly added to by the UK, &

they've sold no-where near as many elsewhere, in that time. (Only 4 Million people

live in Ireland, so, whilst they've been huge there, (since 2006), they've certainly

not sold vast numbers of Singles, & Albums, there).

We will see if 'Progress' can do better outside the UK, & Ireland - seeing as Robbie

is bigger than them in Europe, & he's now in the Group, again. (Getting to No.1,

in Countries besides the UK, & Ireland, would certainly show a rise in their popularity).

I think the difference with take that mark2 was they didnt really do much promotion outside the UK and Ireland and they mainly based their career in the UK to a certain degree where as take that phase 1 went round the world promoting at that time.

Progress will definitely do better. (how much is the question here)

I was only refering to the reunited TT as a four-piece. "that goes to Hitstastic as well"

Wouldn't be suprised if McFly aren't top 10. Great album but a lot of people did get it for free.

Still waiting for mine in the post. <_<

um...should be patient to wait for the full report...i think McFly will have it top 10...unless the really hardcore fans don't want to push the sales cuz they get it for free :S

for me (if im in the UK) id still be buying an album even tho i have it for free...buy it for someone never wanted to heard them in class :yahoo:

actually does anybody care about the McFly sales? lol seems like we three are the only ones talking about it hahaha

lol more than that...the free copies have the bonus DVD too?

Regarding this Oasis thing - i note the Wiki article says the 420k(ish) figure in the top text, but under the sales/reception bit lists the 350k(ish) figure. I can remember originally at the time they said 350k. I wonder if 420k could have been its worldwide sales 1st day, bearing in mind it wasn't released everywhere on that dat probably and they're not half as big anywhere else. Otherwise they made some serious miscalculation at the time and backtracked, or 420k is just plain wrong. Regardless, TT have not beaten their one day total and need 700k for the week to beat them. Maybe unlikely but at this stage not completely out of the question judging by their previous patterns and the time of year!

Take That Progress only £5 on 7digital.com btw! Cheapest i've seen it so far, and good site!

OCC don't arrest me for chart fiddling!

lol How about Brian goes back to Westlife and release thier album in this week? what would they be selling? :P EPIC!!!! hahaha
