With December coming, Christmas songs are getting bought and downloaded and very soon they'll be on the radio stations.

But what Christmas songs do you hate?

I like Christmas songs but do not like 'Walking In The Air', his voice is too high and it's irritating!

I like Walking in the Air! In year 7, me and my friends rewrote the lyrics to the song. I can't remember what lyrics we wrote, but I remember finding it hilarious (although it probably wasn't funny at all ). Good memories from that song. :)

I don't think there's any I full on loathe, but there's a few I find boring. Like that War is Over one, and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (I'm not sure if those are the correct titles). That might just be because I heard them too much as a kid though.

'Walking In The Air' is only good for one thing, 'The Snowman' - Other than that it's diabolical.

In regards to "most overplayed christmas song", surely Mariah or The Pogues? Particularly the latter (I adore Mariah, but get bored of Pogues to easily nowadays, but I do like it)... The most overrated (IMO) though is Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' :puke:

Most embarrassing? Three obvious ones spring to mind for me:

Cliff Richard - 21st Century Christmas

Billy Mack - Christmas Is All Around

The Wombles & Roy Wood - I Wish It Could Be A Wombling Merry Christmas Every Day <<< Roy Wood officially losing his marbles

Don't forget the MASSIVE guilty pleasure of The Tweenies 'I Believe In Christmas' :kink:

Mariah's AIWFCIY is awful and I generally don't understand how it came to be the second most popular Christmas classic.

I also find Wizzard - IWICBCE overrated and overplayed. It's not that bad though.

Fairytale Of New York on the other hand is marvellous and 100% deserving of its status.

The OFFICIAL ordering of Xmas classics (based on the order in which they charted on week 52 2009):

1 The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl

2 Mariah Carey

3 Wham!

4 Slade

5 Chris Rea

6 Wizzard

7 Shakin' Stevens

8 Band Aid

9 Brenda Lee

10 John Lennon/Yoko Ono/The Plastic Ono Band/The Harlem Community Choir

11 Perry Como/The Fontane Sisters

12 Andy Williams

13 The Darkness

14 Bing Crosby

15 Eartha Kitt

16 Gabriella Cilmi

17 East 17

OKAY, so The Darkness and Gabriella Cilmi are questionable as 'classics' but basically all I've done is excluded Christmas songs released in 2009 - ie. George Michael, Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons (questionable as a Christmas song), Terry Wogan/Aled Jones and Pet Shop Boys.

Also, Bing Crosby's White Christmas is clearly a more iconic Christmas song than, say, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, but just trust the analysis.

Will be interesting to see how this year's rundown differs.

Ha, I liked that at the time actually. Plus it was like the only Christmas song out in 2001 :( How embarrassing for everyone else that we had to rely on the Tweenies to pick up the baton!

But yeah, I don't think it's as bad as those 3 horrors I mentioned ;o

I don't hate any Christmas songs really, some that spring to mind that aren't very good are maybe Have a Cheeky Christmas, The idol's version of War Is over :kink: Im personally find Little Drummer Boy a bit boring myself, but apart from that I basically love all Christmas songs :o

is it possible to have a combined chart including tv and radio airplay to show the most popular xmas song of december 2009?

think mariah did 85k and the pogues did 100k in sales!!?

Fast Food Rockers - I Love Christmas :heehee:

I have to admit that I tend to love the ones that others cringe at. Am I the only one that adds the 'festive' version of the Lazytown and Shaun the Sheep singles to my work playlist for xmas (has to be family friendly in a supermarket and I think they cheer things up!). I think Cliff's 21st Century xmas was actually quite good ("Lets microwave some popcorn put on a dvd and have our selves a .... 21st century xmas!"), and if you only consider the 'physical' chart (i.e. the same chart cliff had been aiming for for 5 decades) then he was number one with it! I also think the Boney M is more of a classic than it's position in recent years would suggest. I do get fed up of War Is Over a little bit and although I love it the Pogues one has been played to death in the last decade. I do like the Chris de Burgh one that someone mentioned though. Just remembered Tony christies brass band version of merry xmas everybody that he released off the back of amarillo, what do people think of that one?

Oh and one more, I love the Wizzard song and the Wombles song BUT I hate with a passion the 'mash-up' wombles/wizzard b**tardised hybrid from a few years back that didn't even fit together with the rhythm of the lyrics or anything. What was Roy Wood thinkin? (answer: £££$$$).
