Dance music success goes in cycles - next year may see a comeback!

I think 2010 has been a much better than previous years for dance music in the mainstream, so hopefully the trend continues for a while.

He's good on the factual side, but I think Scott Mills is better for finding a happy medium of interesting and factual. I thought it was meant to be him next week, but considering he was oop North for X Factor last night...

I used to say Scott, but last time he did a few things wrong and seemed a bit less interested in the chart :(

What are the XF winners songs then? Just so I know what to expect next Sunday

They're only rumours as yet, but supposedly Matt's is

Many Of Horror by Biffy Clyro

, Rebecca's is

Distant Dreamer - Duffy

and

1D's is Forever Young - Alphaville/Jay-Z Feat. Mr Hudson

. Why do THEY get the best song? :drama:

Facebook campaign needed to get this song to the top ten. Dance music is in a poor state.

Trance music hasn't been top10 in so many years, I don't think even facebook campaigns could help it.

I'm quite excited to hear what Greg is going to do with the show today. I can't believe only 5 years ago I was producing a chart for him on his student radio show in Norwich and now he finally gets a chance to do the official UK top 40. Fingers crossed he gets the gig full time next year!

So will you be offering to produce for him if he gets the job? :o

Hi guys :D

I'm hoping for Rebecca to win XF and Matt to come 2nd, so they can both have successful careers (female XF winners always have successful careers, and male runners-up can do well too a la Olly Murs while a male winning tends to be a curse, Shayne aside). One Direction and Cher will be successful anyway, possibly even more than Matt and Rebecca.

Anyway, hopefully Manic Street Preachers have hung on to the top 40, and Ellie has overtaken Willow.

Greg doing the chart show today :w00t:

True. Trance music is like dead now. :( The closest popular song I can think of to trance from this year is Stereo Love, which was one of the biggest hits of the summer (it was EVERYWHERE for like 2 months). The fact that I'm saying Stereo Love is the closest to trance we've seen in the charts this year makes me want to cry, since it's like 3% trance at the most.

Hello everyone!

glad Greg James is in today, and Matt to win XF please :cheer: although in a way, I kind of don't want him too as he will be better not being managed by Syco

Who is Greg?

Greg James - DJ that does the mid week chart show. He is very good!

Alexandra Burke to win X Factor this year I think :w00t:

Youtube'd the BEP performance, just like all the X Factor performers it was wonky and terrible. But unlike the X Factor performers I love the song  Willow and Ellie making the top 3 will make make extremely happy.

Also Olly Murs is soooo yummy and his songs are actually really good

So will you be offering to produce for him if he gets the job? :o

Haha I wish. I genuinely always thought he had the potential to go national as he was the only decent presenter we had, but had I known he was going to end up doing the chart show one day I would have made more of an effort to be his mate! He could have helped me get into the industry myself. Oh well. I just used to compile the weekly chart based on Livewire airplay and I sat in with him on the show a couple of times too. He used to actually run down the midweek charts on his show as well, which makes me wonder if the "Official Chart Update" was his idea. He clearly has an interest in the charts unlike Reggie, which is why we should be championing him as the next presenter of the show - if he does a good job today maybe we should all e-mail the BBC? Reggie has made the show unlistenable.

Oh nice. That means that no Reggie?

Btw, hi to everyone! Hope Ellie gets to number one (in a far away dreamland )

I don't remember one! Do you mean Calvin Harris?

I can definitely see trance in I'm Not Alone I suppose.
