I expected way more from Duffy  .

BIG OFF TOPIC but it bugs me so i have to say it:

I am very tired how misogynist is the thinking in the music industry and very often here on forum. It is perfectly ok for the men that a feminine act without voice or talent to be on top just because her video is " soooo gooooddd" (aka dance and beautiful girl) but is a nono for woman to like something different, they have a less taste if they like man for good looking for example.

I am very disappointed how often is written here "the music is for the housewoman" as if these woman would be people of third niveau. It may be that women like other music as men, but way do you men believe you have the monopole of good taste and only what you hear is good? :puke2:

So what if an artist is more targeted for the women? Why should we hear your music made from some long-legs-not-another-talent artists? Just because men have something between the legs doesn't mean that they have a better taste, a better ear...

I expect from educated people on a music forum to think more when they want to show that a music is bad in their opinion as putting that "this is music for gran, sister, niece, mum, aunty, .... insert other". I bet your mother / sister/ gran / aunty ...would be happy to know how you think about their taste in music.

I like your view, I hate the patronising way women's muscial taste is considered second rate and sneered at if they are over 40. It's sexist, ageist and without any foundation.

Kids In Glass Houses (I'm very suprised Undercover Lover didn't go at least Top 40 with the help of Frankie Sandford of the Saturday's)

Gorilaz (Not 1 Top 40 hit and being held off number 1 by Boyzone :puke2: )

I think I'd add Mika - although his second album was released September 2009 because by rights (or at least based on the first one) he might have expected to be huge in 2010 instead of which he didn't even register.

In fact - 2nd album seems to have been a nightmare for a whole bunch of artists who might reasonably have expected to be the new 'career' artists rather than the flash in the pan they have turned out to seemingly be - obviously Duffy but also Kate Nash.

I don't think Adele will suffer the same fate though - I think '21' will be huge for her.

I totally agree with you. Women over 40 often have the best taste in music :) . What I was alluding to is that the male record buyers assume that they will like TT and MB and not look further. I don't hate TT or MB, but I'd far rather be given Rumer or The Script, or The Hurts for Christmas.

I agree about Adele. I was quite annoyed when her moment of glory with her first album was totally overshadowed by Duffy's Rockferry. I think Adele will be the artist with longevity though, her voice is in a different league in my opinion.

Gorilaz (Not 1 Top 40 hit and being held off number 1 by Boyzone :puke2: )

Gorillaz latest single 'Doncamatic' got into the Top 40 @ No. 37.

Klaxons, "Surfing the Void" was fancied to be a #1 but only scraped into the top 10 then plummeted.

MCR flopped badly, and "SING" isn't really saving them like I thought it might.

Lostprophets underperformed, but that was to be expected really despite the album being really good.

Linkin Park were a bit disappointment - not in terms of material (given they've released two of the year's best, most original singles and have another in "Wretches and Kings" waiting in the wings for 2011) but in that it was a relative flop. Sure, The Script have done well but I didn't fancy them to beat LP to #1 and "The Catalyst" deserved far higher than #40.

Sugafakes

Kate Nash

Mini Viva

Joe Mcelderry

Duffy

Xtina and Duffy giant disasters, has to be said Kylie and Scissor Sisters unfort didn't do their usual best but I loved both their albums.

Most "returning" acts this year have done poorly...

Kylie (album not even platinum, two flop singles)

Scissor Sisters (#11 single, flop single, album plummeted)

Hoosiers (#11 single, album plummeted)

Duffy (#42 single, album just made the top ten)

Ting Tings (#26 single)

Kate Nash (#12 single, album plummeted)

Tinchy (singles haven't done well at all compared to last year, did his album even chart?)

OneRepublic (single and album stalled in the top 30, then dissapeared a few weeks later)

Taylor Swift (massive in America, #30 single and terrible chart run for album)

Shakira (Gypsy and Loca didn't chart, Waka Waka was a minor hit here compared to the rest of the world)

Gabriella Cilmi (top ten single that plummeted, second single didn't chart, album sold about 15K)

Miley Cyus (BGT couldn't even get a her top ten single, album plummeted)

Sugababes (three top ten singles that had the same dreadful chart runs)

And albums by Enrique, McFly, Neyo, Nelly, Roll Deep (even after two hit singles), B.O.B (even after two hit singles), Iyaz (after one of the biggest selling singles of the year and a further top three hit), Marina and the Diamonds, Ke$ha (considering her profile), Owl City, Selena Gomez, Taio Cruz, Train, 3oh!3 and Usher haven't even reachd platinum yet! :o

Diana hasn't underperformed - because IMO there were no expectations for her in the first place, nobody finishing in 4th place in X Factor before has ever been thought to get a shot at the charts, let alone a #1 album and single.

I agree completely. I may have a biased view but Once has sold nearly 250k, Cherry Tree 150k and TBWML and MWH 50k each with limited promotion (especially the former). That's pretty good for an X factor semi finalist and someone who is very love or hate :D

Anyway, I think the under performing artists this year are Alesha Dixon, Christina, Kate Nash and Duffy to some extent (album charting saves her slightly) :)

McFly's album badly underperformed. Party Girl, although charting well in its first week, only stayed top 40 for about 3 weeks. However, Shine a Light was a good move forward and a bit of memorable success for them. I hope its a sign of a good year to come for them.

Now lets not forget the Sugababes.

Has Once realy sold around 250K? I though it was 220K at a push. And 50K for MWH considering it had an X-Factor performance and wasn't on the album is dreadful.

Suprised no one has said Joe Mcelderry. He has very much under performed. His lead single went out the chart quick. His album has sold perhaps a tiny quarter of what Olly sold in just a month. Plus his recent single bombed. I can't see things picking up.

Sugababes have of course flopped.

Westlife's album Gravity has underperformed this year, especially the single.

Up until back home, they were always guarenteed a million selling album, then they took their year long break

and never recovered.

ermm..she has a deal with a major label. Ofcourse there are expectations for her to have done better, particularly in album sales.

Corinne Bailey rae

What a depressing album though. I mean i know her husband died, but so did her music and possibly her career as far as i am aware of.

Just about every artist I actually like.....

Seriously I really rate albums from Maroon 5, Scissor Sisters, KT Tunstall and Duffy this year. But it appears no one else does.

Christina Aguilera and Nadine Coyle have to, sadly, be the biggest flops of 2010. Nadine should not have let Tesco promote her album, and Christina just fell completely flat with Bionic. Hopefully they'll both learn from their mistakes and their next eras will be better.
