I'm sure songs have gotten #1 after a Monday release before. I think Matt Cardle might've done actually. And Shout last year got #1 when it was released on Wednesday or something. Bruno Mars would've probably got #1 this week, even if released on Monday.

If Britney's sales are high enough, there's no reason why she couldn't do it (although she's got a lot of competition in this case, it seems).

I reckon it will do something similar to 'Club Can't Handle Me' which was also released on Monday. I don't think it will debut at #1 but it surely will climb to #1 after 3 or 4 weeks :D

how do you know the Coldplay release date?

Yeah, I don't know tbh. Releasing it on Monday does certainly put it at a disadvantage. It'll still sell well though, and one good thing about Monday releases is that it gives the song a slightly less front-loaded chart run, which some people on here value more than the peak and total sales for some reason.

Wretch 32 :P

I think that's what will happen, it will obviously do well, but it hasn't got massive airplay and it's a busy week, so I reckon it will chart at 3 or 4 next week.

It might not have massive airplay but you can't deny it's a massive *song*. It'll definitely be a high selling top 5 hit at the very least.

I can see it being potentially as big as Pass Out (but probably without getting to #1)

I think Britney will début at 2 or 3 then climb to #1 the week after next.

Hate them to release it in the hardest week of the year and not on a quite one like it supposed to... and plus to all this - on Monday!

i dont think it will be as defining as pass out, its too slow a rap song for that - hardly a club banger!! top 5 at best, especially with the competition!!

did they not say when they released the xmas song in december it was having a march release - thought it was the 6th tbh???

NO, I wish.

There's a remix of it which is basically the same as the original but twice as fast.

I love Grenade, but I might have to kill Bruno Mars if he stops Brit's HIAM being no. 1 :(

i think the majority of people will have heard the single version on radio 1s playlist!!

People underestimating Britney :o

It's Britney Bitch... Enough Said.

But 3 didn't do as well as expected here. :( Although, to be fair, the song wasn't that amazing, but it was okay, and I have very fond memories of seeing my friends faces when they heard it for the first time. When they heard heard the orgasm noises they were just like "What the...?" I wish I'd played them Video Phone by Beyonce/Gaga!

But this one is a BIGGER one, and a better one and the HYPE is unbelievable. Not Womanizer or "3" did even close to this in the world... so why not in the uk?

Agree. This song is MASSIVE. Its topped the iTunes chart in the majority of countries it has charted in and is breaking records. BRITNEY HAS ARRIVED. "3" wasn't the best single but that has nothing on "Hold It Against Me,"

And the last time she had a number 1 in the UK was....?

Years Ago - It will go top 10 IMO, but I cant see her shifting Grenade from the top spot

If the track is popular enough, it will go to no. 1 ;) Look at Shaggy. Had a no. 1 hit in 1995 with 'Bombastic', then nothing for six years and it was the release of 'It Wasn't Me' that propelled Shaggy back to no. 1 in the UK (and his most successful era too).

So yes, Britney's not had a UK #1 since 'Everytime' in 2004 but many artists make massive comebacks. Cher's another one; 'The Shoop Shoop Song' (1991) then 'Believe' (1998); a seven year wait between UK no. 1 singles.

Can't rule out Britney getting to no. 1 just because she's not had a UK #1 in almost seven years.

And don't forget Blondie :P 19 year gap between 'The Tide Is High' (1980) and 'Maria' (1999)

Anyway, I finally heard Grenade this morning. It's very boring. Disappointed.
