I suppose he was referring to the vocal abilities and not so much about the song! He/she is comparing voices and imo he is totally right! How do they feel when they see any artist that can actually sing atm that they only mime or sound crap live?

I would imagine that's exactly what he/she was getting at. It's an interesting question. I wonder if those 'singers' mentioned do feel embarrassment at their own vocal inadequacies when they hear Adele do something like she did on Tuesday night? If not, they are truly deluded.

Katy Perry on Ellen (it's mostly all painful to witness but 0.58-1.14 is particularly harrowing)

Seriously, is this what the pop world has come to??

That's far better than most of her performances (vocally) I'd say - she actually sounds pretty good there imo.

Now, the X Factor performance...THAT was awful!

Katy Perry should've probably mimed there tbh.

I don't know how they feel when they see other good singers though. They know they're not good singers. Infact, pretty much everybody in the world knows that. They probably got over it a few years ago tbh, so it doesn't effect them anymore.

they get over the fact that they are crap? LOL maybe they went together to a psychotherapist! Yep that's why Rihanna and Katy are friends  Group therapy for being not good singers

She just CANT sing live, I don't know from where all her successfulness is from...

Um, she releases brilliant songs like Hot N Cold and Firework and millions of people hear them, and buy them?

Is that so hard to grasp?

Um, yes? Rihanna has been in mainstream music for over half a decade now. At first it may've troubled her that she wasn't as good at singing as some of the other artists in the chart, but I doubt it's been eating her inside for the past 6 years of whatever. That's just not psychologically healthy, is it? Instead of being depressed that she's not the best singer, she should just get over it, and make the most of what she is. And evidently, she has done, and she's one of the most successful artists on the planet. :)

Can we just adress this question directly, rather than avoiding it. People hear a song they love on the radio. Should they not buy it is the vocalist on the track isn't good at singing live? Yes or no?

Yap, when you sound like that.

Yap, when you sound like that.

She sounds fine on those songs though. They wouldn't have sold millions if she sounded bad on them. Ever heard of a studio?

They will buy it but what they buy is nothing more than a voice fixed in computers! But if they like the song, then why not buy it! And here is where bellboys question comes "Seriously, is this what the pop world has come to??"

The punter is being duped, pure and simple. Up to them whether they want to be or not. If i had seen the singer and saw they couldn't sing live, I genuinely wouldn't buy it. What would be the point? You aren't buying the singer singing the song! I had a look at the Rihanna Brit upload today and there are fans there claiming there was no backing track! Seriously, when music execs have ppl as thick as that to sell to, it's no wonder they go for the lowest common denominator.

Anyway, is the tide turning? Are ppl getting sick of being duped by computers?

Similar results when you look at the Brit uploads of Adele and Rihanna...

The best-selling songs of 2010:

1. California Gurls - Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - 8.369.000

2. Love The Way You Lie - Eminem feat. Rihanna - 8.260.000

3. Hey, Soul Sister - Train - 6.994.000

4. Tik Tok - Ke$ha - 6.910.000

5. Airplanes - B.o.B. feat. Hayley Williams - 6.614.000

Katy Perry and Rihanna top 2!!!

The numbers speak for themselves. :)

Why are you so anti-technology. A song sounds nice. I buy it. Simple as. I do not care if it uses a sample. I don't care if it uses auto-tune. I just hear good music, and I appreciate it.

Sorry, I just can't hear a song like What's My Name? or Firework, and not want to listen to them over and over. Clearly I'm not the only one, as they've sold in their millions.

No, because YT view =/= success.

Despite the promo Adele has done, RITD is #10 on US iTunes.

Katy Perry hasn't promoted ET at all and yet it is at #4.

People buy music if the song is good. Who cares if they can't sing live?? It doesn't mean people won't like the sound of their voice.

But it's not their voice! I can see I'm far too old to understand the concept of this so I'll leave you all to it.

Have fun :w00t:

Just to say that Nikki Kavanagh - Falling (Irish Euro NF) and Yohanna - Slow Down (Nott) (Iceland NF) are available on UK iTunes. I love them both! :D Doubt they'll reach iTunes top 1000 though :(

Nikki kavanagh has entered the irish chart at #44, its a great song and such a huge shame that its not her representing ireland at eurovision.

Well maybe they like the sound of the voice they hear!!

Which is fake! If they are ok with this...

This is such a dire conversation.

In other news, why has Tiesto - C'mon (Catch Em' By Surprise) started to climb again?

Which is fake! If they are ok with this...

I'm not saying it isn't, I'm just saying that the reason people buy the songs is because they like what they hear. Manufactured or not, they enjoy the song.

Which is fake! If they are ok with this...

Of course they are okay with it! Katy Perry performed Firework on X Factor infront of 15 million people, then the song goes sells massively for the next 3 months. Honestly, people don't care that she's not as good at singing as Beyonce or whoever. It's like saying "Oh, I don't like this song because the credited artist didn't write the lyrics", or "I don't like this song, because the credited artist didn't produce it", or "I don't like this song, because the credited artist can't play the drum pattern in it", or "I don't like this song, because the credited artist didn't design the cover art". I can't understand why people do all this. Obviously, it's impressive when someone produces a load of good songs, etc. (hence why I love will.i.am, Alex Da Kid, etc.), but at the end of the day, it's the song we're buying. I don't think it's neccessary to get caught up in all these politics or whatever.

This argument is possibly the most boring argument I've ever seen on the iTunes thread.
