I don't agree with those people suggesting that 5 of the existing songs will be in the decade-end top 10. The thing is, we have 8 years left of the decade, and sales are only increasing. If sales keep increasing throughout the decade, but the end we could be seeing whole year-end top 10's passing 1 million within the year, so all the current songs will just fail.

And who knows what could happen? Perhaps we'll start doing what they do in Korea, where everyone pays a monthly fee to download a certain (high) amount of songs. If that happens, and gets popular, nothing in 2010 or 2011 will stand a chance of even making the top 100, since sales would go astronomically huge, totally eclipsing the sales of today.

But if we keep doing things the way we are today, I think sales will peak and fall in a few years, and I think the only current songs to make the decade-end top 10 will be Moves Like Jagger and Someone Like You.

I think if there is a Band Aid 30 they will do either

1 - try to urbanise it (they already did in 2004 by adding a Dizzee rap I know) by including raps by Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah and the next big UK rapper - and it will relatively flop

2 - Simon Cowell will make sure all his acts are on it - and it will relatively flop

3 - make ADELE and Ed Sheeran sing most of the song - and it will be a massive sucess (I think they'll still be relevant by then, most definately ADELE and I don't think Ed will go away anytime soon if we're about to have an indie revival)

God I really hope it is #3 out of those options! :o :P

I'd be really let down if Bob Geldof actually allows a load of rent-a-rappers and "street" artists to murder and ruin DTKIC? and to also make it such a niche record.

I doubt Bob Geldof would let Simon Cowell have any input. Although, if Leona's album does well this year, hopefully she could feature on the record (if it actually materialises). Hopefully no Cher Lloyd.

I can definitely see Adele and Ed Sheeran featuring heavily on it. Although I do wonder whether Ed will be anywhere near as popular as he is now in three years time. He could do a "James Blunt". The cynic in me predicts a boyband to feature in an attempt to shift more copies of the single. Maybe One Direction if they are still big by then or Harry Styles if he goes solo. :kink:

I would really be up for that, 99p is too expensive for a single track for some people. The 59p effect is proof of this - I'm sure one day the record companies will wake up and realise if we paid £20 a month for 50 songs (or something like that, I don't know exactly how they do it in Korea) that would be good for us and them :D

Harry Styles and Aston from JLS will both go solo when boy bands get less popular, it happened in the 90s with Take That and Boyzone so it will probably be the same again when the bands split up or get unpopular

They need to book Gareth Malone now to organise Band Aid 30!

Yeah it's definitely Aston and Harry who will go solo.

Oritse and Liam/Zayn will be the "Nadine" of each boyband and will go on to have a less successful music career.

Marvin and Louis will resort to any reality shows that they can get a gig on (SCD, IAC, CBB etc).

JB and Niall will fade away.

What about The Wanted? Does anyone care about their individual members at all? :kink:

Nathan (I think that's his name) will probably go solo from that group but will flop like Nicola Roberts of GA due to not being well known enough - The Wanted dont get lots of press like JLS and 1D so they'll probably go away first

well, I'm pretty sure 21 will be the best selling album of the decade, this is a rare phenomenon, I do wonder if she will actually be close to the top album of all time by the end of the decade! :o

I reckon Moves Like Jagger could be the highest selling 2011 song though (I wonder who would've predicted that this time last year  ) although I can see both that and SLY being in the top 10 of the decade

as for Band Aid 30, that could be potentially massive, I hope they get a wide range of artists from different genres whilst putting their own spin on it (a bit like the 2004 version, although its not aged that well) a Simon Cowell or Urban dominated Band Aid would make me die a little inside :(

I think Max (the uber hot one with a shaved head) is probably the most 'liked' and I'd say he probably has the best voice too, but he doesn't seem the type to go solo. I don't think any of TW will, I think 2 or 3 of the JLS lads definitely will though.

'Someone Like You' selling over 1 million copies within a calendar year is surely a good sign? Those that have trickled sold their way to a million will only continue trickle selling. As Adele's track topped 1 million sales whilst the track was still comfortably in the Top 40 means it's going to continue selling quite well for a while.

Let's see how much of a sales boost 'Someone Like You' gets post-Christmas week. All the music channels will be counting down the big hits of 2011 so 'SLY' will no doubt be getting a lot of video airplay these next 2 weeks.

'We Found Love', 'Moves Like Jagger', 'Party Rock Anthem' and 'Price Tag' will most likely sell over 1 million copies in 2012. Jessie J is going to be a judge on The Voice in Spring 2012 - anytime 'Price Tag' is played on that show, that's another 1k sales guaranteed. :P

There's also 'Wherever You Are' which might break 1 million sales but it all depends on how much of a decrease in sales the track suffers next week.

On a seperate note, I think Lana Del Rey could have the biggest selling album of 2012.

I wouldn't be surprised if '21' leads the 2012 YTD list until the big Q4 releases (or the whole year if there are no big ones).

That really wouldn't surprise me either.

I do think Lana Del Rey will sell a good amount though, also I think Take That are planning a new album and Michael Kiwanuka could have Plan B levels of success so I think he'll be up there (obviously not right at the top though.

Any talk about Band Aid 30 having some kind of 'theme' concerns me. The whole point of the original (and the aspect that Band Aid 20 did well) was getting together the biggest contemporary artists of the day together regardless of genre. Band Aid II is surely proof that anything led by Cowell would be a miserable failure. I'd like to think that Geldof will rope in the likes of Ed Sheeran, Adele, Plan B, Tinie Tempah, Chris Martin, Matt Bellamy etc.
June 2012 will be the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Sex Pistols 'God Save The Queen' for UK #1 come 3rd June 2012.

Well, surely Helping Haiti gives you an idea of what Simon Cowell's idea of a "charity single" is.

Leona? Check.

Alexandra Burke? Check.

Joe McElderry? Check. (bless :P )

Gary Barlow? Check?

Cheryl Cole? Check.

Michael Bublé? Check.

Mika? Y'WHA?!!! :o

So if there was a Band Aid 30 fronted by the Cowell, it might as well just be credited as The Best of X Factor Finalists featuring Gary Barlow.

What about The Wanted? Does anyone care about their individual members at all? :kink:

Max will attempt a solo career but after his lead single doing okay, his follow-ups and the album will crash and burn. He certainly is the type to go solo if it means more fame and fortune. Afterall, he was in that group on XF that infamously got axed from appearing on the live shows and then having the cheek to criticise the show in an interview he did with The Wanted, just to seem more credible. Something about him bugs me, as you can see. :P

I think that asian member who was a model will go back into modelling. The two members that look quite similar to each other won't do much and the Irish one(?) will probably do the reality tv circuit (or Nathan - is he the one who appeared on his own on Xtra Factor?)...

Anything would be better than Gary Barlow organising it. Look what happened to The Collective... :P

I've got a feeling if they do end up doing another Band Aid, sonically it will be like The Collective :( Obviously it being Xmas and another Band Aid track it'd sell a heck of a lot more but it'd very likely be crap.

If a Band Aid was organised for next year (obviously it wouldn't be since I doubt they'd call it Band Aid 28 ) I'd put the likes of Adele, Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah, Coldplay, Emeli Sande, Labrinth, Little Mix (for variety), Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks, Take That and Leona Lewis on.

Trying to be as realistic as possible as well as adding my preferences. :D

Bump! I was searching for the predictions we made at the end of 2018 thread for this year's music and found this old thread. Pretty timely to bring it back, no? Some interesting thoughts here, what with the actual top 100 tracks of the decade being released just this week.
