2000 had 42 #1 singles.

As for new entries, 1997 was the big year, I think 2003 or 2005 was the 2nd big one, but not sure which one.

Ooops, I added 4 more #1s

So much for this year's "Pass Out", it's still very good for a new rapper to debut in the top 5 with his first single though.

I don't get how this happens, I really expected this to be absolutely huge! :(

Tiësto/Diplo/Busta at #36, not too bad, hopefully it can go top 20 or at least top 30 next week :D I prefer the instrumental to this song, but Busta's rap is good as well, just doesn't add too much to it.

I actually don't know - I do know the start of lots of high debuts started in 95. Not sure of the reason!

That was when the gap between singles being played on the radio and the eventual release really started growing. By late '97 a gap of six weeks was becoming common.

we need robbie or dave to answer that one then...you would think even if they rose the charts their songs must have been in the shops but surely say in 1992 a new release by george michael or madge would have went straight in at no1 the same way lady gaga or britney do in todays release world!!

'Fools Gold'? URGH Another song ruined... :(

Have you even heard it yet?

Although I haven't listened to it in full yet either, so yeah, it might not be very good.

The instrumental of this is amazing. Busta is great as well. Another amazing song!

I swear I've heard the instrumental from somewhere though...

I really like this song by Tiesto and Busta Rhymes! really hope it climbs next week :cheer:

although I think BJ will hate this :(

I haven't heard the instrumental yet :o must give it a listen!

Wow this is good. But then again I do love a bit of Busta (and when I say that, I mean I like "Touch It" and "Don't Cha")

No, but I'm 99.9% sure that 'Fools Gold' cannot and will not sound any good in any other form, especially one with rapping on it. It's a bona-fide indie classic, you can only make it worse!

I really like the Tiesto song :kink:

And what a flop for Britney, poor thing  Bring on single 2 with Katy Perry !

I agree... I hope it climbs!! :w00t: And I hope people on here don't get really bitter if it gets popular. :(

Wretch's new single is called 'Unorthodox', just so you know what to avoid.

Chase & Status are the biggest fallers :( At least Greg is actually playing it though :D

Blind Faith! LOOOOOOOOOVE IT!

It struck me that the "C'mon" bit in the last song sounded like the one at the start of Nirvana's "Terrirtorial Pissings"... I doubt anyone else here will have a clue what I'm on about

Ouch for Chase and Status, really like this though.
