As the title says really.

My favourites are probably The Darkness vs Michael Andres/ Gary Jules battle for Christmas 2003 and then RAGE against X Factor in 2009.

The Saturdays vs. Flo Rida.

In fact, The Saturdays vs. anyone when they're going for #1 and have the midweek #1 but then implode by the end of the week.

1. Oasis' Roll With It VS Blur's Country House! EPIC chart battle! Country House was the winner - love both songs

2. Beyonce' If I Were a Boy VS Britney Spears' Womanizer VS Leona Lewis' Forgive Me VS Christina Aguilera' Keeps Getting Better---> 4 huge ladies..what else do we need! Well, didn't expect Christina to win the battle but neither to miss Top 10! Thankfully, Beyonce was the well deserved winner!

Gaga VS Adele VS Jessie J .... Telephone VS Pass Out... Higher VS Check It Out .... Suppose any Saturdays battle :D

I might add 'Love The Way You Lie' being at #2 for 4 non-consecutive weeks! Unluckiest #2 last year, no doubt.

And Jessie J vs. Adele in general.

I wasn't following the charts until 2006, Joe vs rage is definitely the best for me- I just had no idea of the outcome

also JLS vs B.o.B, Saturdays vs Flo Rida, Shout vs Waving Flag form last year all had me quite tense as I loved one song and hated the other  so I was really praying for the song I like to come on top!

I was pretty tense every week Umbrella was number 1 in 2007 too, as I didn't know the midweeks- I was just so sick of it and was praying for something to knock it off- I literally ran around cheering when it was finally knocked off!

That week where it was California Gurls vs. Airplanes vs. The Club is Alive from last year. I had no idea who'd win that one at the time.

Also that one where Higher and Check It Out were battling for the top 10 place! They should've been battling for #1 though, not #10. :(

The Saturdays v Flo-Rida 2009 and 2010. Missing You/ Club Can't Handle Me Just Can't Get Enough/ Right Round
The only two I can remember being genuinely unsure of the #1 were Joe vs RATM and Jessie J vs Chipmunk vs GaGa. Both really good ones.
I loved the Oasis and Blur week it was really exciting at the time, also i was a huge Blur fan at that time and was definitly on Blurs side so when they won the battle i was ecstatic to say the least.

Gaga VS Adele VS Jessie J Telephone VS Pass Out Pokerface VS Right Round

Rage Against The Machine VS Joe The Saturdays VS Flo Rida. Get sexy VS Run This town!

Edited by Gaga for Glee!

Mr Blobby vs Take That (1993)

Blur vs Oasis (1995)

Cher vs Jay-Z (1998)

Bob The Builder vs Westlife (2000) How do you like them apples Westlife?!

Rage Against The Machine vs Joe Whathisface (2009)

All the winners I wanted to win except Cher, cos she'd already had 6 weeks at number 1. :(

Bob The Builder vs Westlife (2000) How do you like them apples Westlife?!

THIS.

I can't believe you're the first to mention it! Was absolutely amazing for them to get beaten like that. Literally a :cheer: moment.

Joe vs Rage was also very exciting indeed. Those two are the big ones for me. I was excited for Xmas 2002 at first (Girls Aloud vs One True Voice), too, but then the first midweeks came in and Girls Aloud were miles ahead which took out any excitement somewhat! I don't really remember following the Xmas 2003 battle.

And let's not forget the 1999 "Spice Girls" battle - Emma vs Geri! Emma lost despite having the superior song (although I do love Lift Me Up, and the video is hilariously awful), it was very close in the early sales but Geri totally thrashed her by the end of the week... plus Spiller vs Truesteppers in 2000 was obviously a great one and was quite prominent in the media that week too.

Blur vs Oasis was before I followed the charts so hard to call it a favourite of mine, really, plus neither song was close to being the best by either, anyway.

The Sats vs Flo-Rida last year. Literally about one pop bar behind Flo, combined ##1, tons of TV appearances and media attention, numerous remixes and "special" releases, #1 all week due to top the charts for the very first time and then....#3. :(

To be honest, I never found Joe vs. Rage interesting. I mean, at the beginning of the week I was like "Woah" (as Nadine Coyle would say ), but towards the end of the week, at least to me, I thought it was extremely obvious who'd be #1. Not to mention, in terms of the quality of the songs, that week, and the week after, probably have the worst top 3 I've ever seen since I started properly following the charts. :(

The one a couple of weeks ago, with Lady Gaga vs. Jessie J vs. Chipmunk, that is one example of where I was genuinely unsure of who'd get #1.

Except some moron ruined it in the iTunes thread like an hour before saying Chipmunk tweeted he was #2, and it was fairly obvious to deduce the order from that  So it wasn't even remotely exciting for me. Maybe it might have been otherwise though.

And I disagree totally on Rage vs Joe - Joe was catching up all week and many people thought he'd overtake from the physical sales (as it was the weekend before Xmas which is always big for shopping) over the weekend. Indeed, if it wasn't for the Rage "Download Day" on that Saturday, Joe surely would have won. But clearly you had some special intuition on the matter, or maybe as I more suspect you're simply biased as you just said you didn't enjoy the songs - which is fair enough.

To be honest, I think chart battles used to be more exciting back in the physical days. The media used to really get involved with them and the acts involved really went all out to get the #1 spot. Victoria Beckham was working her butt off doing signings up and down the country the week of her battle with Spiller. These days it can be close but there's no extra effort involved to try and snatch it. Rage vs Joe was the only recent one anything like that.

Plus, in those days I didn't know midweeks either - only the small bits the press reported!

I think the snow may have lost Joe the #1 - perhaps 50k lost physicals is a bit overboard but you never know.

With the Joe v Rage battle - it wasn't certain at all, in fact didn't the lead that Rage have slide to under 10K (which IIRC was catching up at a rate of several tens of thousand per daily update)? I remember being at work on that Sunday and a few of us crowding around the radio hoping to hear that Joe was at number 2.

And he was. :D
