Singles usually get cherry-picked more than non-singles though. It happens every time an album is released, like with Chris Brown's and Nicole Scherzinger's ones this week.

You're just being overly pedantic here, I think...

How's that being pedantic? It's generally what happens with when albums are released.

I don't understand what you're getting at. The average pre-album single DOES get cherry-picked more than the average album track.

But we'll see if Till the World Ends is the least cherry-picked track from the album this time on Monday. :)

This. I don't think I've ever seen it not happen before. I'm racking through my memory, and I can't think of a single album that's been released where the singles weren't amongst the top half of the most cherry-picked songs. Not even one (although it probably has happened before ).

I personally wouldn't class downloading singles which are already available as cherry picking, for a start.

And it was pretty obvious they were referring to album tracks. No one is going to say "I hope Hold It Against Me does the best on cherry picks!" when it's already available to purchase lol.

Oh, of course I'm not denying that. But like I said, I wouldn't class that as being cherry-picked.

But while we're at it, no I do not think Till The World Ends will be the most downloaded song off the album, considering HIAM is like, 100 places higher than it currently!

Well if they're downloading the album version, then yes they would be cherry-picking.

Meh, I feel like I'm being misconstrued here...

Yes. In the literal sense, if you choose to download one song from the album, you are cherry picking from the album.

But in reality, who will search for the album, look at the tracklisting and be like... "I will download HIAM/TTWE first to see if I like it or not" when they've already been available for weeks? I would guess most of those downloads just come from searching for the song in question.

no he's right, singles do tend to get cherry picked more than album tracks

Yeah. I'm always interested in cherry-picking of album tracks. The tracks which seem to get cherry-picked the most are:

- Big collaborations (e.g. Telephone by Lady Gaga/Beyonce)

- Songs that music videos/promo singles (e.g. Wait You Turn by Rihanna)

- Songs that have been hits in the US prior to the album release in the UK (e.g. Airplanes by B.o.B.)

- Songs that have already been confirmed as the next single before album release (e.g. S&M by Rihanna (although they almost changed their mind on this))

- Songs that have leaked onto the Internet and gone viral (e.g. Ridin' Solo by Jason Derulo)

- Songs that are already being promoted as singles, but haven't been released yet (e.g. Blah Blah Blah by Ke$ha)

- Songs that are the album's title track (e.g. Monster by Lady Gaga)

- Songs that have been promoted before the album's release (e.g. Someone Like You by Adele)

- Songs that are track #1 on the album (e.g. Your Love is My Drug by Ke$ha)

This week, we had Chris Brown/Justin Bieber, which is a "Big collaborations" one, and Look At Me Now, which is a combination of "Already big hit in the US" and "Has a music video" (it's also getting a tiny bit of airplay in the UK).

But if you look at the chart runs for some songs, they climb on the week of the album release, which suggests that they're getting extra sales due to cherry-picking from the album, rather than the same amount of sales, just split between the two. For example, Do It Like a Dude by Jessie J recently re-entered the top 10 when its album was released.

God, who the hell CARES about cherry-picking... this thread is unbelievably tedious these days.

Anyway, on the subject of what is out tonight, surely Panic! At The Disco will at least go top 40? It's been getting a lot of airplay on Radio 1. I'm sure it will at least go top 100 anyway.

Also, on the subject of Radio 1, I am VERY surprised they're ignoring Milk & Sugar  The song has still had decent video support/some radio airplay on other stations but R1 really could have pushed it up into the top 10. Shame.

I care about cherry-picking. But we can all stop talking about it if you don't like it. :)

PATD should go top 40, I would think. I've also heard it a lot on Radio 1. I don't enjoy the song though. :(

About Milk & Sugar, Radio 1 is actually the only place I've heard the song so far! It's not on their playlist, but they have played it before. I listen to Capital the most, and I've not heard it on there.

1hr 30min before on the floor is available on uk itunes :D

Really excited to see how this does :D I shall be purchasing.

P!ATD will be lucky to go top 100 IMO, they've never exactly been massive in the past and I haven't even heard TBOML once yet. It's also not done very well in the USA.

I find it odd that Milk and Sugar have been released now with not a huge amount of support- they should have waited for when there was more hype around it, its a shame, I thought this could go be number 1 but it looks unlikely now :(

I think Panic could get in - but alas there a rock band so low top 30 beckons :drama:

It's not that I don't like it as such. I just find it tedious how one simple comment seems to be drawn into a page long discussion every time I look in this thread. But whatever, if that's what people want to do, then who am I to stop them  But honestly, if people stopped being so picky it could really be avoided almost every time.

But was it A-List on a station like Radio 1 in the US? I wouldn't really take much from that to be honest. A helluva lot of rock singles do better here than in the US.

... it's a forum. Avoiding discussion sort of defeats the purpose, wouldn't you agree? :P
