I've been making a bunch of mixtapes for friends lately and thought of how successfully the last one went. Would there be interest in doing another one soon, after UP? Same rules as last time obviously, not limited to any genre just that, in general, it should be thoughtful / cohesive / preferably more unknown though that's not a requirement.

I was also toying with the idea of not doing it anonymously. How would people feel about that? Like you would get a PM telling you who you have to make a mix for, and then they get it anonymously. That way you can sort of personalize it. I know it's a bit of a bummer when someone gets your mix and it's clearly not designed for them at all. At the same time, anonymous does make for fun and wild discoveries. Like always though, making the artist / song title / album names hidden would be encouraged / required.

??? thoughts ???

YAY.

i was thinking when was this gonna return.

i like the idea of not anonymously because it's like, i know some people i'd hate to get one from, and they'd probaly hate to get one from me, i'm all for checking out genres I wouldnt hear otherwise but let's face it I'm not going to enjoy 70 minutes of female pop songs in the same way many other people arent going enoy 70 minutes of punk songs i could potenially send.

that said i also quite enjoy the anonymousness of it.

I do like the idea of knowing who you are making it for. If I'd known that it was Dandy that was going to get mine last time I wouldn't have been so conservative with my choices.

YES PLEASE.

And, actually, knowing who you are making it for may be quite a good idea.

The one risk with doing the draw in advance is that people will sign up to take part and then not get round to it.

Yes, good point.

Plus this often does actually happen from my experience of running these things in the past.

I'd definitely take part if we did another CD Swap. I might find it a bit daunting if I was told I'd be making an album for a particular poster and have no clue whatsoever what to tracklist.

I've mostly used the "Now! That's What I Call Music" approach and tracklisted different types of songs. Yes, it doesn't exactly flow from beginning to end (doesn't it Dandy? Remember mine from 2009? The one with the cheesey German summer anthem? :D ) but in these cases I guess it wasn't supposed to.

The exception being 'Fused' from 2008 as I had loads of interesting remixes at my disposal so I created a continuous mix of different indie tracks.

As long as everyone reaches to every far flung corner of their music taste, I don't think this should be a problem.

If someone didn't send in a mix, I'd be willing to make a second.

But yes, people should be trying to create a really nice, diverse mix. But that doesn't always happen. And say if I was to get Chris, I would make a very different mix than if I got Dandy. Maybe we could do a poll later? I'm really down to do it anonymously, too.

I'm having second thoughts on taking part. I really find it difficult review music.

Don't let that put you off. I'm sure I'd feel the same - perhaps if you're in doubt, tracklist songs you hate. By some co-incidence, you might find the person reviewing your album ends up liking the tracks you chose. By "hate" I don't mean Rebecca Black style horrors, but maybe an indie band whose music you find underwhelming.

TBH I'm up for it to be anonymous. I'd find it to be far more difficult trying to make a mix for someone else.

That's even despite of what I got last time which was a CD full of europop.

Yeah, Mah bad.

I'd be up for this again. Less Europop obviously, save that for the BJSC one.

Did I get your CD last time?

Think I may be slightly more amenable if it happened this time (after having taken part in a few BJSCs now.)

Another idea would be to know who you're sending your CD to, but the recipient won't know who they're from?

that's the same idea.

I know I'm hardly a regular Indie poster, and I've not bothered with Unknown Pleasures (let's face it, I'm not exactly "alternative"), but I really enjoyed the first CD swap, so I'd love to give this another go.

However the idea of knowing who you're compiling music for does put me off a little. If you know who you're putting the CD together for, the obvious thing is to try and go for styles that you know that person would like, even if you know f***-all about that genre - and chances are then that the recipient may well already know half of the stuff that you're chucking them. Also I'd be completely f***ED if I got someone like Chris!
