March 30, 201115 yr I'm hoping that Aloe Blacc will be of similar success to Gyptian in late 2010. His album was out, the single recieved downloads; but once the radio got behind it and the single was officially released it peaked at number 14. 'I Need a Dollar' is THE soul song of 2011 for the UK, let's just hope it does well. Great to see We Are The Ocean climbing and the additions of Chase & Status and Sleigh Bells make me happy. Weird how Rihanna gets booted off, yet Jessie J and Gaga remain; oh and Birdy's 'Skinny Love' = A flop surely?
March 30, 201115 yr When can I start to worry about them not adding Blue? Mid/end of April?
March 30, 201115 yr oh and Birdy's 'Skinny Love' = A flop surely? Er, it's top 20 on iTunes and has been top 30 officially for 3 weeks. It is most definitely not a flop. If you want to pick out a flop, go for My Chemical Romance or something, not a song that has already been in the top 30 for coming up to a month
March 30, 201115 yr I don't think they'll add Blue whatever happens, I just can't see Radio 1 playing a Eurovision song because of 'the stigma'. It's a shame because it's very contemporary and Radio 1 friendly, and if it was a Tinchy Stryder single or whatever, they'd be all over it like a rash. Another example of judging the artist/situation over the song.
March 30, 201115 yr Author Well they've always supported Blue, but Radio 1 like to think themselves as "cool and hip" and I dont think they consider Blue as being a cool group these days.

Yeah, but their last single was 6 years ago, times have changed! And I agree with your latter point. Nothing related to Eurovision will ever be 'Radio 1 cool', sadly. Well - maybe Sebastien Tellier - France 2008 (although they didn't playlist it), but that was pretty much the only example I can ever think of short of Tiesto entering for The Netherlands
March 30, 201115 yr I'd agree really. There wouldnt be much hope of a Blue comeback single being playlisted anyway - the Eurovision connection would only damage the chances further really. And regarding 'Till The World Ends' I think it's fair to say that single is completly dead and over in the UK at least surely? It'll be interesting to see what they do with the next single really.
March 30, 201115 yr Well, Till the World Ends is set to climb this week, due to the album release obviously. Don't know what it'll do after that though. It's quite likely that it's already peaked, unfortunately. :(

It's quite likely that it's already peaked, unfortunately. :(Well, the video is still yet to premier and seeing as it is climbing this week, thanks to the album, if they hurry up with the video and capitalise on it's momentum then it has a chance to re-enter the top 40 and garner some more airplay and stuff so hopefully it won't be as big a flop as it seemed to turn out to be. One things for sure though, it's a huge flipping grower so hopefully it will enter the top 40 again and just be another of those tracks that peaked, dropped but then climbs steadily to a respectable new peak. I don't know guys. I get the feeling they'll still support Blue... after all if this was their normal comeback single (like it was supposedly planned) I could see them playlisting it. But I guess time will tell as to whether Radio 1 do think they're above Eurovision or not. Quite weird though, considering Radio 1 is BBC and they are the corporation who have the rights for Eurovision
March 30, 201115 yr Radio 2 playlisted Lena after she won last year, so I guess Blue could appear on there, but the problem is that I Can almost sounds like it was tailor made to be played on Radio 1, it's so current sounding and 'now'. Plus Stargate are behind it and they've playlisted every big hit by them, I just think that the only possible reason that they could have to snub the song is the stigma of Eurovision, which would be very petty imo. But that said, if Tinie Tempah had gone in for ESC this year with his new single, they'd have certainly playlisted that, surely?

Radio 1 pretty much always playlist based on who the artist is and not the song, that's became evident pretty much all the time. They never playlist anything related to Eurovision either...
March 31, 201115 yr That Retro list is far better than today's mainly poor tracks. So many memorable hits from 2001 that are still pretty well known today. Cant imagine too many on the playlist this week will be remembered in a year let alone 10.
March 31, 201115 yr Still no TTWE? Maybe when the video comes out? Maybe never? You're so cruel Bray! :( Very surprised Sweat is not yet A-listed. :o

That is too true the current C-list has maybe two songs that have a good chance of doing well the others are dire.Surprised the 2001 list is so strong but maybe the panel was better then.
April 1, 201115 yr re: Retro playlist Was 'Weapon of Choice' by Fatboy Slim and Bootsy Collins ever playlisted? It was released as a double A side together with 'Star 69' that spring. 'Halfway...' is such a fantastic album still I miss the Avalanches... 'Frontier Psychiatrist' is such a gem Edited April 1, 201115 yr by SKOB
