The best #1 so far this year for me is probably What's My Name?

 

Grenade, Party Rock Anthem and We R Who We R aside, so far I've liked all the #1s but none of them particularly stand out above the others. Based on their peak in my official chart, the order for them so far would be:

 

1 What's My Name? (#1)

2 Price Tag (#5)

3 Give Me Everything (#11)

4 Someone Like You (#12)

5 The Lazy Song (#14)

6 Don't Hold Your Breath (#17)

7 On The Floor (#20)

8 When We Collide (#24)

9 Party Rock Anthem (#26)

=10 Grenade and We R Who We R (DNC)

 

But I think in terms of actual quality of the songs from the viewpoint of right now it's more like:

 

1 WMN?

2 GME

3 SLY

4 OTF

5 TLS

6 DHYB

7 PT (it got very old very quickly :P)

8 WWC

9 WRWWR

10 PRA

11 Grenade

 

CTWYKM will come in joint first on the first list (as it is my current chart topper) and new first in the second list, assuming it does get #1.

1. Grenade

2. Price Tag (forgot about this :o definitely one of my favourites, it hasn't got old for me)

6. Don't Hold Your Breath

7. The Lazy Song

8. When We Collide

9. What's My Name?

10. Give Me Everything

11. We R Who We R

 

but CTWYKM would definitely be in the top 3 when it does get there :D

I'm predicting 110k, that sounds about right. I don't think it'll beat the first week sales of Jennifer Lopez, let alone 'Grenade'.

 

And about 'Price Tag', it's her best song by far. It took some time to grow on me but it's definitely an anthem of 2011. People will look back at this year and think (this was the year of Adele, LMFAO, Bruno Mars and Jessie J). PT has sold over 600k on my own chart and is in my top 20 of the year so far :D

I don't get how Example is getting more and more popular, just as his releases are getting worse and worse :( ('Last Ones Standing' should have been the lead single by that theory though, but it bombed and is his best single, imo)
Despite 'Grenade' being nine, If it wasn't done on a points system it would be last by far. It's the worst song of the year :puke: I can't believe I liked it at first (but this was probably because Bruno had some good songs before this such as Nothin' On You :heart:)

 

I possibly agree with that. I genuinely, thinking of all the songs I've heard this year, cannot think of anything as dreadful as Grenade. And as another poster just said, this hasn't been an amazing year for music so far, so that shows how dreadful Grenade is. :( I didn't even like it from first listen. Just dire. I'd never, ever, ever listen to that song again.

 

Rant over. Nice to see Example at #1. :)

Incorrect. CTWYKM is far better than anything from his first album (and I loved 4 of the 5 singles, although I felt they actually got progressively worse :P)

^^^^^ Wasn't WGQ Examples 2nd alvbum - the 1st one wasn't a commercial success then with WTSCU/ WGQ he broke through more mainstream before Kickstarts and the 2nd album was released.
