I like how 'Run the World (Girls)' appears to actually be having some stability now. :D

I hope it does. I really like it.

I heard Beyonce's new song on the radio a few weeks ago too (although that's the only time I've heard it, but at least it's something), and I think that could go top 10 (officially) when released.

I'm pretty sure the next single will go top 10 too. It's much more radio-friendly and a much more Beyonce-sounding song...I think 'Run the World (Girls)' was just a bit too different for her for the public to take to. I love it though, definitely her best single!
Thought I would Say The Saturdays - Notorious is 59p now!

They are so desperate.

I'm not saying Rihanna copied her. Plus, it was released in November 2010 anyway. But it is literally the same as SLY (or I should say SLY is literally the same as it). Piano and singing. That's it.

If we're looking at differences, Rihanna's song is chords as opposed to Adele's which is arpeggiated, so Rihanna's sounds slower, and of course the different melodies. Both are very depressing though.

I never thought you were saying that Rihanna copied Adele. I was saying that just because they are both stripped ballads, it doesn't mean they are the same. I just thought that it was a rather narrow-minded thing to say. Also, Rihanna's version still has drums in it from the first chorus onwards.

It doesn't have any drums in at all. I can't hear any, and Rihanna also said in an interview they recorded it with no drums.

There's two versions of the Rihanna version though (which makes 3 versions altogether). There's Eminem's version, then two versions of Rihanna's version, one with drums, guitar and rapping, and then other is just singing and a piano.

And they are extremely similar I think. Especially as chart music goes.

Here's the version with drums and guitar (they come in at 0:45):

And the version which is just piano (nothing extra comes in at 0:45):

You've been sniffing too much PETROL again

'Run the World' has is the sonic equivalent of falling down Snowdonia with a gramophone attached to your head

I agree with him tbh. Maybe not her best single, but I think Run the World is awesome. I think he's right though, the general public weren't expecting that sort of song from Beyonce, and that's not what they want from her, evidently, however much I like it. :(

Eric, the official version has the drums.

And you can't say two songs are extremely similar just because they are the only songs of their kind around right now.

Yeah. The piano version was just an iTunes bonus track on Rihanna's album, so it is "official", but not many people know it.

It was actually climbing up iTunes quite quickly when released, but it got made "album only" after a few hours, but it still managed to chart top 200 officially, and it got combined with the other version of Part II (even though the normal Part II was never available for cherry-picking at all).

You're right I guess. It's probably the fact that they're the only two popular "piano and vocals only" songs from the past few years which is why I think they're similar. Although Skinny Love might be another one actually (I can't remember it fully, so it might've had extra instruments in).

But as you probably figured, I'm not a fan of those types of songs. I never listen to the piano version anymore, since I find it boring. Just the normal version and the normal Part II. The drums give you something to listen to in those massive 20 second gaps where Rihanna breathes inbetween each word. :drama:

But it just smells so damn GOOOD. :(

The Saturdays #27 now :cheer:

:o! Wow. I wonder how long it'll stay at 59p for? Great decision by their label (for once).

Katy Perry so close to getting another entry inside the top 40 (currently number 44 (ALREADY!))

What the public were "expecting" has no relevance on the success of a song at all because the general public don't "expect" anything. Music fans DO yes but the greater more casual public at large (a much bigger division) may well pay more notice if they realise it's Beyoncé or whoever but no casual fan will buy a song if they don't like it. That's simply what it comes down to. Do you honestly believe if the British public has known for some time that this would be the sound they'd be getting that it would have SMASHED OUT THE GATE?

Justin Timberlake likewise did a total transformation from one album to the next but actually managed to succeed as the songs remained pop friendly...

lol what a shame the saturdays cant actually hold a run together without having to slash the price.

Carry on and you'll become ONE OF THEM in the Saturdays forum. A life obsessed over moving up to #25 from #26 on the iTunes.

The pop bars will be the only friends you have left...

Run The World was mainly stopped by a midweek release and interest waning really (then again, releasing an actual song could've helped :heehee: I kid)

Brilliant move by The Sats to reduce it to 59p hardly any money is made from downloads anyway and judging by the three boxes of Notorious sleeves they have signed (guessing 500 or so in each) thats £4,500 in revenue (£2.99 on Sats website) so the single itself really isn't doing too badly (although no-where near as well as their other singles so far).

I just hope Promo, physicals, the remix E.P and the price reduction of the radio mix manages to push them back into the top 20 AT LEAST.

Yeah, that's true (although some people will claim otherwise).

Oh, and nobody's life revolves around The Saturdays climbing a place on iTunes.

I might post :cheer: :w00t:  emoticons whenever the BEPs make large climbs on iTunes, but in real life I'm not actually cheering or dancing or whatever. Usually not even smiling tbh. Same probably applies to Saturdays fans. :D

Yeah. Run the World has underperformed all over the world really (except in the South Korea International chart), which is a shame really. A lot of people do seem to like the song though, like you visit the right places on the Internet.

LOL. Higher & Ego & Up had a brilliant chart run at 99p! I agree with them reduing it to 59p No on air songs have really did well apart from Jessie J Imo!

Are you on about LFN? :o :o :o

Oh my God, Katy is just brilliant. She's had such a brilliant era! And to think she only got 2 top 10 hits (and 1 top 3 hit) from the last album. She's already got 4 top 10s (and 4 top 3s) from this album.
