It was also legally selling enough to be at #1 for at least 1 week before the chart rules were changed to allow it in.

It topped the download sales chart for 11 weeks actually.

Unlikely, since it was already down to #5 when deleted.

It was deleted after its 9 weeks at #1, so it being at 2 and 5 was on downloads only. (Songs were allowed to chart on downloads only for 2 weeks after the physical was deleted). Had the physical still been available it would probably have had a couple more weeks at #1.

I don't think so - on its last week at #1, it sold 42k, and the #1 the following week sold 40k, so it would most likely have fallen to #2 even without the deletion.

Well I'm not going to when it's clear you're only doing it to p*** me off.

While I agree with you on the of/have debate, this is not the place for starting a flame war.

On the original subject of this thread, I assume the OP intended it to refer only to songs that were denied #1's by exceptional circumstances - chart rule changes, unexpected charity singles etc, not by the normal course of events?
In the spirit of the thread I nominate Take That - Rule the World. Shamefully outsold by the excrement that is Bleeding Love and held at number 2 despite nearly 100,000 copies sold.

Your Song :snif:. It would probably have been Christmas number 1 without The X Factor too.

And Love The Way You Lie too. The songs that beat it were one of the worst number 1 streaks ever.

Which would have been made even worse if "Love The Way You Lie" made it

Crazy was on the decline though and Sandi Thom actually climbed to MORE sales than Barkley's last week at #1 when it got there...so I very much doubt that! :P

Actually just checking the archives, despite "Crazy" being at number 1 for 11 weeks on the download chart, it still would have only had 9 weeks at #1 were it allowed to chart from its release on download.

It's first few weeks (were it allowed to chart) would have been: 2-3-{1} (with the final week being the week it finally was chart eligible).

Sandi Thom was narrowly ahead on the download chart by week 12 (10th week on the combined chart) where "Crazy" fell to No 3 (No 2 on the combined chart)..
