Would never have expected to see Darren Hayes anywhere near #57 on iTunes in 2011... Although to be honest I don't actually recall hearing any of his previous singles!

Bombay Bicycle Club now down to #47 :( They must have sold practically nothing since it went top 40!

Good to see Last Friday Night not in the top 10, if it goes top 5 that would just be massive. She is very much a singles act though it seems (especially in the USA).

I find the situation with 'Shuffle' very odd. It was #44 within 10 hours of release, and a further 30 hours later has only fallen. If iTunes is a 48 hour chart it should have plummeted towards the bottom of the top 1000 by tomorrow morning because it must have sold almost zero in the last 24 hours....

E.T. might even sell 5 million in the US, as it's still selling fairly well, and will obviously have a lot of longevity there (I mean, it's chart run there is better than Someone Like You's over here).

I hope Last Friday Night can get #1. I just want to see her break that record, but she'll be fighting with Pitbull, Adele and Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera (lol) probably in the weeks to come.

It's also funny that both E.T. and Last Friday Night have been in #1 battles with Rolling in the Deep!

It is very strange. The same thing happened with all of Take That's album tracks. They were all in the top 100 after like 18 hours, so I was thinking to myself a lot of them would be top 40 after the full 48 hours, but they started falling way before then, which confused me greatly.

I guess it's different now, because sales are higher on Friday than Thursday, so if you sell little enough you could fall in the 48 hours, but with Take That it can't make sense, because sales on Sunday are higher than Monday, which are higher than Tuesday, so even if they didn't sell anything after the first 18 hours or so they should've still climbed overall.

It actually kind of seems that the single 'Teenage Dream' has been completely overshadowed by the other four releases.

California Gurls was HUGE (especially in the US and was one of the biggest selling songs here last year, and is regarded as THE 'summer hit')

Firework was HUGE (especially in the UK, i'd say, is used on every TV show now, had a fantastic video, probably re-enter the charts tons of times)

E.T was HUGE (well, in the US, it broke records, was one of her longest #1's there, biggest selling song of the year for a while, massive video, Kayne West, top ten in tons of other countries)

Last Friday Night is already entering the top ten in several countries plus has another fantastic video with several celebrity guest appearances, and has been one of the most raved about album tracks before it eventually got released.

It seems like Teenage Dream was just 'there', I guess. Song was okay, video was okay, it did really well, but forgettable? Firework and E.T have definately overshadowed it.

I think Teenage Dream was just quite boring tbh. I was actually in the US when it was starting to get popular. It sounded so great there, but in boring UK especially, it was just like "Meh".

I have to say, I am SO glad Katy performed Firework on X Factor instead of Teenage Dream. Plus, I really liked that the UK was the first country on the entire planet to have Firework really high up the charts. :) It made a change, since we were pretty much the last for California Gurls and Teenage Dream.

Firework has a strange chart run though. If you weren't around at the time, you might not be able to tell about how it was released. It doesn't look like on air, on sale, since it debuted so high up the chart, but it doesn't look like it was held back either, since it has such insane longevity in the top 10.

What other artists have managed 5 UK top 10 hits from one album without a re-issue?

Michael Jackson, with Thriller? I think that may have had six!

As did Take That's Everything Changes album

Also, if you include Work It Out and '03 Bonnie & Clyde then Beyonce's Dangerously had 5 top 10 singles on it too.

'Teenage Dream' is such an awesome song though! :( It is my favourite Katy Perry single from this era and my favourite track on the album. I also find it far more summery than 'California Gurls' (even though that may be a strange opinion). I just associate it with summer more because I heard it in July/August while CG just got boring by early July.

Westlife had 5 UK #1's from the same album, their eponymous debut! Pretty sure Steps spun six top ten hits off Steptacular without a re-release too - Tragedy, Love's Got A Hold On My Heart, After The Love Has Gone, Say You'll Be Mine, Deeper Shade Of Blue and When I Said Goodbye.

Yep - thats correct about Steps (though they were helped by 3rd album double A-sides Better the Devil You Know and Summer of Love - and they were all top 5

Westlife - Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings, Seasons In the Sun/I Had A Dream, Fool Again - all #1

Whilst they were on the album, they weren't released as singles off it. "Work it Out" was an Austin Powers soundtrack single and "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" was released off The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse. So I don't think it really counts. :P

 21. Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People

I can definitely see this climbing next week :D

 39. Don't Know Why (Radio Edit) - SoundGirl

Was this performed somewhere? Odd it's taken so long to finally go top 40.

 40. Boom (feat. T-Pain) - Snoop Dogg & T-Pain

Doing swimmingly :D

 42. Dirty Dancer (with Usher) [feat. Lil Wayne] - Enrique Iglesias, Usher & Lil Wayne

Taking its time I see.

 66. Hitz - Chase & Status & Tinie Tempah

:w00t: Climbing a bit again!

Michael Jackson attained 7 (6 if you dont count 'man in the mirror' original #21 position in 1988) Top 10 hits off the 'Bad' album

1 - I just can't stop lovin you - no.1

2 - Bad - 3

3 - The way you make me feel - 3

4 - Man in the mirror - 2 (does the 2009 chart re-entry count? :D)

5 - Dirty Diana - 4

6 - Smooth Criminal - 8

7 - Leave me alone - 2

Enrique & Usher's new 'Dirty Dancer' video will be on The Box at 9:55pm. :w00t: Tune in! :P

Taking its time? It has barely any radio support and the video has just premiered. :P

Why is Eminem's Ass Like That suddenly at No204?

It's been rather high on iTunes (usually top 500) for like month now, but this is the highest I've seen it. I genuinely have no idea why, because it was never in the top 1000 before then. At first I thought it was played on Radio 1 or something, but after a few weeks it's still around and selling more than Not Afraid, so I'm a bit confused now. It's not even a very good song either imo.

lol. Man in a Mirror was a complete flop wasn't it.

I've kind of got bored on Usher since OMG tbh. DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love, More (this is honestly one of the most boring songs I've ever heard) and now Dirty Dancer. He used to be an urban artist once upon a time, now he's making Britney Spears music.

er, no it wasn't? it reached number 2 20+ years after its release date, and it would've been number 1 if it wasn't for Cascada

Don't worry, I was just joking.

Would be funny though, if Second Chance by Tinchy Stryder got to #2 in 2025.

Firework had a fantastic video

(snip)

I beg to differ. It was one of the most blatant and cringeworthy attempts at political correctness I've ever seen. "Oh, let's cram in a gay couple, a fat chick, a cancer boy.. that'll make it RELEVANT!!" Not to mention the stupid scenes with people having lights come out of their bellies. WTF were they thinking? Like the song, but whenever the video is on TV in my house, the channel is switched pronto..
