I came on here to say exactly this. It’s so easy for us to assume that a certification must be correct, but this certainly isn’t. Reading other forums, its downloads could be up to around 100,000 but certainly not significantly more; its physical sales are less than 10,000 from the reissue; its streams until a year ago were far less than 100,000 (‘Kids’ at number 10 is no more than 110,000 - so EFY at 19 will be significantly less). It’s unlikely to have even reached silver status since 1994.

Could they have granted it platinum status for being an official million seller? If so, that would be unprecedented.

Could it have just passed 200,000 Since 1994 and then mistakenly as its last certification was gold they’ve given it platinum?

Was just going to add I suspect that this is the truth- for whatever reason it has actually sold 200,000 since 1994 and as the last award was Silver it has now gone Platinum as that's the difference between the two awards. That would put its sales at 1.044 million which fits in with all the other updates and the rate it is selling. As we all know this isn't the way it should work but maybe there's a Kylie fan at the OCC :D

It's the only way it makes sense in my opinion.

I wonder when Tension is due for Gold? The last known total is 81,781 on 5th January 2024. 26 weeks have passed since then, which means its average weekly sales this year will be less than 700. Hopefully it's going to happen any week now.

I have to admit, when it opened with 53,237 copies, I never would have guessed that it would crawl its way to Gold. Disco did it in just 6 weeks, but we're 41 weeks in to Tension's existence and it's still not Gold. (I remember a confident post stating that Tension would definitely end up outselling Disco... :kink: )

its interesting because i guess the CD/Vinyl are still selling. On Amazon UK the pink vinyl has sold 50+ in the last month, the CD has sold 50+ also. then you have other outlets like HMV sale. it can't be far off the 100,000 mark now.

Hi my huns

I still believe it will outsell Disco, once we get the re release, with Midnight Ride and Dance Alone collabs on there. That will help with the trickle sales as I feel the collabs from this era have been more successful than the collabs from the Disco era. Tension just needs those trickle sales, which it will get if they do the re release with these collabs on.

I also did mention it will take years to get there huns but it will outsell Disco.

Hi my hun

And we are all allowed our opinions! Even if we don't agree. If they do a re release and include dance alone and midnight ride and potential this new joel song! My huns, this will then outsell Disco if all those songs are added! They all stream more than anything on Disco.

I am not a deluded fan, you have all seen my posts and I think people are forgetting that it is all about streaming and trickle sales!

Love you all

I am at Hyde Park at the weekend if anyone wants to meet the Queen. Love you all

I really don’t see how it’s logically possible…

By now Disco is probably nearer to 190,000 than it is to 180k; in 2023 it was selling at a rate that roughly translates to it selling 10k in 12 months (~200 a week). Tension is likely somewhere in the 90-99k region at the moment. So Tension possibly has around half the sales of Disco.

Tension gaining a few mildly streamed collaborations is not likely to alter its weekly sales all that radically. They’d have to have been genuinely huge hits to make a significant impact on Tension’s trickle sales. And for physical sales, a reissue would need to sell as strongly as original Tension to close such a significant sales gap and give it a shot at catching up.

I know this ultimately boils down to having a different opinion but it’s not one I can understand. :kink: I’d get it if Tension was only trailing Disco by 30k or something… but nearer 90k? :drama:

I agree plus when we see that tension already has 2 of kylies biggest hits in over a decade the fact its still significantly behind disco to me pretty much makes me believe it will remain well behind in sales and I include golden aswell.

Even if the re release goes ahead I can't see it bringing in long term sales of over 50k but would be happy to be proved wrong.

If I was a Exec for BMG (obviously I'm not for suggesting this lol) I'd repackage with all 3 collabs and finally release that video for HOTN that they are hiding and really push that song, it still holds up head over heels above PP. (scampers off back to my non-exec bmg job)

I understand, Jay my hun. You are a very logical person and I love that about you!

Time will tell I guess, because it will take years for this to happen.

I noticed the week before this chart, Espresso was #5 on the physical chart with just 55 sales! Makes you wonder how many sales it takes to achieve lower positions! I bet there’s a lot of joined positions and they’re separated by which was bought first.
Even with a reissue, tension is highly unlikely to sell more than disco. The odds are already heavily stacked against it - The reissue of disco didn’t sell much and at the time of the reissue, disco had already surpassed the current sales of tension. My oh my hasn’t made much of an impact to date and it’s divided a lot of people. The album seems to have died to death quite a while ago so it will really take something like another Padam single to kick start the album in a big way. I suspect it will only be hard core fans on forums like this who will invest in a reissue with a handful of new tracks and 1-2 weeks extra chart life is probably the best we can expect.

The overwhelming majority of albums now have prolonged stays in the chart purely down to streaming.

Tension will only build meaningful chart sales if it’s reissued with two or three more streaming hits.

It’s all nonsense really as if they start including the streaming sales of Dance Alone, Midnight Ride and MOM to Tension, it doesn’t create any further revenue or royalties, it’s just album chart vanity.

So let’s appreciate Kylie releasing random collabs and new music for us to enjoy. If they decide to package them all up in a reissue then we can add it to our physical collections and it’ll boost the sales/ revenue for a couple of weeks.

I'd like to have the collabs included as I think they are easy to forget about when they don't appear on albums and there is much less of a chance of me revisiting them.
Agreed, useful to house them somewhere official.
