It finally arrived today! :D

There's a cracking pop album hidden in here somewhere, I'm already thinking of removing a lot of the instrumentals and making a 40 - 50 minute concise version.

Favourite album of the year for quite some time now. Continues to grow and grow.

Why are you seeing them (like myself) in Feb if you do not like the record Anne? ;o

Why not? Great live act and I've loved virtually everything released (Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts and Saturdays = Youth mainly) up until now. The new album definitely has some gems hidden beneath all the filler too. I just expected more.

I'm going to try this now! Although, 'Raconte-Moi Une Histoire' is just too sweet to let go.

Apart from albums that were less than 12 songs. But I agree that Hurts - Happiness could have done with an extra track :kink:

Is this really cheap anywhere btw? I love Midnight City but hated Car Chase Terror and I don't want to waste a tenner...

If you liked 'Midnight City', i'm assuming you've heard that ( ), then I can't see why you wouldn't enjoy the album tbh.
Yes I have, though only like 2 weeks ago  So it's nothing like CCT?
Not at all. (Although that was the first M83 song I'd heard - thanks to BJSC :P- so I adore that song). It's very much in the same vein as 'Midnight City'. My personal favourite though is 'Raconte-Moi Une Histoire', it has a certain charm to it and it's lovely.
Liking all the love for 'Raconte-Moi Une Histoire', it is a rather jolly song indeed. OK Pal and Intro are my other favourites at the moment (as well as the awesome Midnight City).

Agreed that in general this is a bit overlong... "Midnight City" remains brilliant, and the best thing here.

Also liking "Claudia Lewis", "Fountains", "Steve McQueen", "OK Pal" and "Intro" (Ft. Zola Jesus), and I'll bet that in time I'll grow to love the others too.

Oh I do like that one too actually but I couldn't find a way to include it without ruining the flow. You also have to merge the tracks for the above to work or it sounds all clunky but I do definitely prefer it in that order.

I've cut it down to a 10 track album of Intro, Wait, Claudia Lewis, My Tears Are Becoming A Sea, New Map, OK Pal, Another Wave From You, Splendor, Echoes of Mine and Outro and it's absolutely glorious. I love the whole album but it's a bit MUCH given it really starts falling into itself and losing urgency at points, but the above lot are perfect. Splendor is brilliance.
I shall give it another try as well. I wasn't so impressed the first time. :(

You got rid of both Midnight City AND Steve McQueen? :o

I agree with you that cutting it down makes it a far better album, there are just too many instrumental sections in the original and it ruins the flow.

OH, no, I still love those - that's just how the album is on my general current playlist at the moment. I'm over Midnight City and I overplayed Steve McQueen a LOT to begin with, but those 10 are the standouts that I can just listen from beginning to end for without skipping. I'll probably add them back in and attempt to sequence it so it flows better when I put it out to pasture as an album to return to every so often in a few weeks.

This is really one of the best albums released this year. I like all songs, even the instrumentals. The only problem: the album is a bit too long.

I hope M83 will issue the songs Reunion, OK Pal, Claudia Lewis and Steve McQueen as singles.

I don't have a problem with the instrumentals throughout, but agree that editing it down does make it somewhat more... sumptuous. Such a good album.

I used to think M83's lyrics were deliberately cliched / corny for the purposes of ~hipster irony~. But this month, I've learnt that the French don't know what sarcasm and irony is! No idea of self-parody whatsoever (you only have to look at French tourism leaflets to realise)

Death is her boyfriend

She spits on summers and smiles to the night

She collects crowns made of black roses

But her heart is made of bubble gum

Graveyard girl

Graveyard girl

Dark rags and red stars

She's the dirty witch of her high school

She worships Satan like a father

But dreams of a sister like Molly Ringwald

Graveyard girl

Graveyard girl

"I'm gonna jump the walls and run

I wonder if they'll miss me?

I won't miss them

The cemetery is my home

I want to be a part of it

Invisible even to the night

Then I'll read poetry to the stones

Maybe one day I could be one of them...

Wise and silent

Waiting for someone to love me

Waiting for someone to kiss me

I'm fifteen years old

And I feel it's already too late to live

Don't you?"

I have a feeling he might be being serious here!
