September 6, 201113 yr ^Pitchfork said in their review that they are from Devonshire. :D Oh dear! Devon knows how they make it so CREMEY.
September 6, 201113 yr Please not Metronomy. What an overrated bunch. absolutely utterly not..... English Riviera is an absolute masterpiece, start to finish, as was their last album....and The Bay remains one of the greatest slices of pop music we've seen in 2011.
September 6, 201113 yr I'm routing for Metronomy tonight - 'The Look' and 'She Wants' are both just incredible tracks, with the entire album conveying a feel good Summer vibe - something I reckon everyone deserves in their record collection. It'd be unjust for James Blake, Everything Everything and Metronomy to lose out on a career-changing award behind Adele with the already worldwide-celebrated '21'. I mean the xx went on to sell over 300k of their Mercury Prize winning album last year - so I just pray we have someone other than Elbow, Tinie Tempah or Adele winning this year.
September 6, 201113 yr Elbow's drummer seemed to be so bored that he didn't get to drum on Lippy Kids, that he started dusting his cymbal.
September 6, 201113 yr Author Elbow's drummer seemed to be so bored that he didn't get to drum on Lippy Kids, that he started dusting his cymbal. It has to be said it's not his busiest song.
September 6, 201113 yr PJ Harvey wins. If I had to pick anyone it would be her as the amount of people who wouldn't shut up about it not winning would be higher than anything else!
September 6, 201113 yr Author Her previous win was announced on Sep 11 2001 so not many people noticed.
September 6, 201113 yr Who didn't see that coming, honestly? Well done, PJ Harvey. Bad news unfortunately for the 9 pigeons that died to make her hat.
September 6, 201113 yr Well that wasn't predictable  after the XX last year, how long is it before the Mercury finally gets over the whole Speech Debelle catastrophe and gives it to someone who's not a hot favourite?
September 6, 201113 yr 10 years since Stories... wow! Which means it must be about 20 years since Dry! :o There really aren't many acts who can make such consistently great music over a 20 year period, a very talented musician.
September 6, 201113 yr Let's hope that "Words that Maketh Murder" goes top 40 after that performance. It would be tragic if she didn't get a hit out of that heart rendering song. Also, brace yourself for a shortage of autoharps in the nation's music shops, as it's going to be the instrument of choice for the next while.
September 6, 201113 yr The best result really. I did start to doubt things at the end if her winning was just too predictable, especially since The xx won last year, but a well deserved win all the same.
September 6, 201113 yr so the favourite wins again then :P nonetheless, I will give the album a listen
September 6, 201113 yr Author Let's hope that "Words that Maketh Murder" goes top 40 after that performance. It would be tragic if she didn't get a hit out of that heart rendering song. Also, brace yourself for a shortage of autoharps in the nation's music shops, as it's going to be the instrument of choice for the next while. And why not? The world needs more auto harps :D I hope you'll be giving Words That Maketh Murder a helping hand by putting it on your playlist at Queen's.
September 6, 201113 yr Well done Polly :D I've not heard the album but I really do like The Words That Maketh Murder and it's been on my 'to listen' list for ages! But it does seem they're bottling it by not giving it to a hot favourite just because of Speech Debelle. Though tbf that NOWHERE NEAR winner material...
